  1. Nick saban is a better coach than pj fleck. Nick Saban's coaches are better than pj flecks. Nick Saban's players are better than pj flecks. But yes, in a bizarro game 1 time in 50 pj fleck may win. The entire sec loses to saban constantly except once every couple of years. Nothing you said really proves anything. Players play up and down according to coaching and other factors. Stars players got from recruiting services in hs aren't the final determination of how good of players they actually are in college either. Sometimes coaches lose their fire or willingness to be hard asses to get coaches and players to play to their expectation. Saban is probably already past that point with how many asst coaches he's had to replace in recent years. Its just the cycle of life as a coach. You lose your fire, get older and don't care as much as you once did about winning.
  2. I don't give a fuck how many stars their players have. We've seen this play out over and over again in cfb where 4 and 5 star players get their asses handed to them by 3 stars and juco transfers. It not exactly something new. I don't know who would win between Minnesota and Alabama and neither do you. You just assume Bama would because 5 stars/Saban. That's the only reason that they are being ranked 5th by the committee right now. People just can't wrap their minds around the idea of Bama not being worthy of a playoff birth.
  3. I'm not sold on Bama when it comes to big games on neutral fields any more. I might pick Bama in such a hypothetical match up but I'm past the point where it would really surprise me if Minnesota were to win such a game. Winning matters though and Minnesota impressed with their win over psu while Bama fell behind 33-13 at halftime and was lucky to only lose by 5 tbh. The Bama mystique under Saban is gone for me at this point.
  4. Bama gets by purely on name, coach and past wins nowadays. I mean the trend has been there for years but before you could at least sort of justify it by them still seeming like one of the top 4 teams in the country. This year they simply have no business being in the playoff imo without a shit ton of teams losing between now and Dec. Their last two big games they got their asses kicked. The committee just refuses to acknowledge what is actually going on on the field. Minnesota is 9-0 with a win over the team that was #3 or 4 in last week's rankings. They should be in the top 4 now. Top 5 at worst.
  5. wtf is going on in this thread?
  6. Fuck Saban, fuck Bama and fuck cbs. Also fuck lsu's defense for letting Bama score 41 pts.
  7. Knowing it and getting 19-21 year old kids to learn it and do it on a fb field are two entirely different things. So it seems what we have here is a failure to communicate, and you get what we had here last week, and the week before.. which is the way Tom seems to want it and well, he gets it.
  8. A monumental meltdown just means that Herman is gone sooner rather than later which only hastens the possibility of the program being saved as you put it. Any good coach can win 10 games by year 2 at any of the blueblood programs.
  9. What did Jones ever really accomplish that he would already be a poor man's version of him? I mean the comparison is basically that they both coached at small schools in Michigan before moving on to bigger jobs but Jones never did anything of any real note. Fleck is only in year 2 or 3 at Minnesota and may already win 10 or more games which I don't think Jones ever did anywhere.
  10. Did any sanctions even happen at UF or tosu? I mean I'm not saying to hire the guy but I just honestly don't remember if any sanctions ever came from all the bs he pulled over the years.
  11. ok I'm confused. Is the deal that if you want Meyer you just cut your dick off for the hell of it or if that if you do cut your dick off then Meyer gets hired as the new hc? The former doesn't seem like much of a deal to me while the latter will probably result in some dickless Texas fans running around.
  12. How much is Alabama separated from say Ole Miss under the old system? I don't think much will change at all.
  13. Your comment made me try to think of a single highly successful coach in either men's fb or bb over the last 20-30 years who was well liked and I can't think of a single one. I might say Mack but when your own fanbase turns on you completely over your last 4-5 years its hard to say he's well liked. Coach K is almost universally hated I would say as a sanctimonious rat. Calipari is seen as a greasy weasel. Stoops probably wasn't hated on a national scale but turned a blind eye to quite a bit of lawlessness. Carroll might qualify but he got out just as the ceiling was crashing down on his program. Roy Williams seems like a nice guy but then again his program had one of the biggest academic scandals in ncaa history which happened under his watch. So maybe all good coaches are either assholes or cheaters or both nowadays. Maybe Peterson at Washington is the exception.
  14. I think Nebraska was going to slowly come down to the level of the Minnesota's, Iowa's and Iowa St's of the world regardless of what conference they were in. Numbers just aren't on their side. I think there's only a handful of coaches in the whole country that could even get them to the level of someone like Wisconsin who wins 9-10 games a year and wins their conference every so often. Maybe they'd be slightly more relevant in the B12 but what had they done in the 6-7 years prior to leaving the B12 that made them relevant? One close loss in the B12 cg? Its just very hard to win in a state that produces almost no major fb talent and has nothing other than having won national titles in the 70's and 90's as a way to lure recruits from Texas, the southern states or California.
  15. You can complain about officiating and sometimes its valid to do so but it still makes you look like a bitch when you do it. So that's the choice you have to make.
  16. All of that but I also hated the chosen one shit and having him being born of a virgin and the prophecy from thousands of years earlier that all these Jedi are really supposed to care about thousands of years after they think the Sith are extinct. It also makes very little sense to me that all these Jedi are supposed to be such bad asses when none of them outside of Yoda I think had ever even fought a Sith. So what basis is there for even thinking they are bad asses when for the most part all they've been doing for hundreds of years is sitting on top of their tower acting as advisers and diplomats?
  17. I actually think leaving out the Padme stuff was a better call or him choosing her over being a Jedi then deciding to train under Palpatine but the problem as you mention is having to justify w/e reason is used for him also slaughtering the kids. That is a very hard thing to justify regardless of what reason you give for him choosing the dark side and was a horrible thing to write into the script in the first place.
  18. Its still not a deal you hesitate to do as the Lakers. GS is a non factor next year and may not contend after that, Houston is probably only a semi factor given CP3's health/decline, and no other team in the west is all that scary. They just need to do an ok job at filling out their roster and they are probably the betting favorites in Vegas to be champs next year or very close to it behind only Milwaukee or Toronto(if Kawhi stays). At the very least they have a legit chance at winning the title for the next 3 years I would say. That's always better than rolling the dice on mid 1st round picks.
  19. You are the one who brought blame into this whole discussion. I don't care where you want to place the blame for any of it. What I said is she'd crazy and that no I didn't think the things she's experienced in the books/show would excuse what she did. Rhaegar isn't written as being crazy. He's written as being the opposite.
  20. I don't blame her for anything. She's just a character on a show. I don't think what she's been through would somehow justify burning a city full of thousands of civilians though.
  21. Right but half his genes are full on inbred. So ya there's probably less of a chance he gets the crazy gene but there's still a chance of sorts I would say.
  22. I mentioned that above. She has two major personality flaws. One is the things she was raised to believe about her and her family and the other is her crazy gene. Jon on the other hand has neither.
  23. I don't think that's an accurate analogy. Had Jon been raised with the idea he is Targaryan and with all the other bullshit Dany was maybe it would be sort of accurate but that's not part of Jon's persona. His genes aren't a weakness. Just as Martin goes out of his way to show that his father was an honorable and good person also.
  24. The coin flip is an integral part of the overall plot that's been built up since book 1. When people intermarry too much it does mess with the children. Its plainly stated that there is basically a 50/50 chance that any Targaryen will start displaying this madness around adulthood. Martin obviously planned this to play into Danyreus' story almost from the beginning. He'd hook people into thinking she is this great little Mary Sue princess and then pull the rug out at the end and go 'fuck off, she's as crazy as her dad was' which culminates in her doing the thing her father tried to do before Jamie stuck a sword in him. Jon is like her without all the egomania and craziness. They are similar in many ways but Jon has an innate humility in that he doesn't want to be king while the idea of being destined to rule has been ingrained in Dany since she was a little girl.
  25. Jon's coin flip came back normal and he happens to be one of the few somewhat good characters on the show. Its not that every Targaryan has a breaking point where they go full on crazy. Its that some just revert to crazy as their normal at a certain age while others don't. Jon also has a Stark as a mother while I think Dany is full blooded Targaryen though I may be wrong on that. Dany can't accept things not going the way she wants them to. She needs to be a messianic figure who is revered by her subjects in order to feel she is being given her proper respect.
