I'd actually push back on the uncalled for bit a little bit. Venables elected to go for it on 4th down well inside OU's own territory, down 24 in a game that was very much decided and where his offense had accomplished less than jack shit. Put the ball there and I'm happy to hand the ball off to a backup RB three times. Honest to god they had a better chance of scoring through punting and trying to strip the ball on defense. You want to call the game like the outcome is still in doubt? You want me to risk injury with Georgia looming next week in keeping my defense - a unit that has thoroughly detonated your offense - out not only for another play but potentially at least 3 more if you convert? Fuck you then, I'll remind you the outcome is not in doubt. I agree the actual playcall was hilariously disrespectful given what Golden did with it earlier. I'm sure he was begging for another chance. I think the football gods agree with me on the last paragraph though seeing as Helm made a pretty improbable catch with multiple OU defenders actually ID'ing the play that time.

We aren't that far removed from a decade-plus stretch where I'd start to check out after the OU game because it was obvious the season wasn't going anywhere interesting or fun. To some extent being in the position the program has been in the past 2-3 years feels like playing with house money. It's nice. I mean, yeah obviously I want the Georgia win in a big way but even if Texas loses they are still sitting at 6-1, probably in the top 5 and certainly in the top 10, every goal in front of them with a dominant OU win in hand, and November road games at Arkansas and A&M.

Texas: 31 Dee-Dubya-Eye University: 27 Georgia Total Yards: 424 Texas offense has some early success, scoring 10-14 points in their first three possessions (we have to account for the obligatory stupid early turnover this team loves to commit). In addition to said turnover, Georgia will move the ball well between the 20s for the most part, but have to settle for a couple of FGs. Texas is up 24-13 at half but we do get a vintage do-nothing third quarter out of the offense, on which Georgia capitalizes with a couple scores to take a 27-24 lead by the early fourth quarter. Ewers and Sark conjure a masterful mid-fourth quarter TD drive get the lead back. Georgia moves down the field in response but with the clock down inside 3-4 mins, elects to go for it on fourth down in FG range and is denied. Texas converts a couple first downs and punts it back to Georgia with < 30 seconds left. A nice punt return puckers some assholes and a couple of quick short routes give Georgia a doable endzone shot or two from the fringes of Texas territory; but the Texas defense holds.

Well, Oklahoma is a joke so this makes sense.

It was even worse in person lmao. Completely cooked. Idk what that other safety over the top was doing either.

Georgia and Texas are in the top 10 for both offensive and defensive FEI and SP+, this may be the first (only?) such game all year. It will likely come down to who plays cleaner - taking care of the ball, avoiding penalties, establishing field position on special teams (Georgia has a clear advantage on ST per analytics, FWIW), etc. Real hot take, I know. Looking forward to seeing what DKR has in store. The last home game I can remember that even approached this level of anticipation is 2019 LSU, which was rocking, and this is a better team coming off a throttling of Oklahoma with more on the line in a conference game. The interesting thing about Georgia is that despite being the big bad wolf for three years running they don't have a ton of experience with playing strong opponents on the road thanks to living in the SEC East until now. I do think the Bama game this year probably got that shock to their system out of the way and I would expect them to have a much better start than they did in Tuscaloosa. Georgia also has less margin for error with regard to an SEC championship and playoff appearance than Texas does thanks to that Bama L. But home field advantage is real in football and Texas, by most metrics, grades out as a slightly better team. Key matchup is the Texas DL vs the Georgia OL. I don't think the Georgia defense will present a significantly higher level challenge to the Texas offense than Michigan or Oklahoma did. Texas will go as far as Ewers takes them on offense. There will no doubt be some give and take but Texas will find its points, I'm pretty confident in that. On defense, though, Texas has not seen an offense of this caliber, especially in the passing game. If Texas is having to commit numbers to run or blitzing is the only way to manufacture a pass rush the Georgia can have their way. Again, real hot take - win the LOS to win the game. It's going to be fun. If you've got tickets to sell, make sure they go to Texas fans. Georgia is known to travel.

To start a game next week? Obviously not. As a draft prospect? Yes. His physical talent is what it is, and physical mistakes - flat out missing on throws - were his primary flaw yesterday. He's demonstrated to learn, protect the ball, and execute a pro style offense at a high level. If you like his physical profile as an NFL team, the rest is there. I don't think Ewers will come back because he'll get a first or high second round grade and that'll be good enough for him. Probably better for his development that he go to a team that's picking in the late first as opposed to the Raiders or Panthers or something. I don't think this has much to do with it. Ewers is going to end up a top 3-4 QB off the board. He leaves this year because he came back to solidify his draft stock and his body of work this season will do that.

Attended in person. Watching a replay and looking at stats today it is really starting to set in what a thorough ass kicking that was. I mean, obviously that was evident to a major extent yesterday but taking a step back and having less beer in the system brings some clarity. That was the best performance by a Texas defense I have seen in a very long time. OU obviously cooperated with that seeing as they are refried ass on offense, but those two units did not belong on the same field. Awesome to watch them just tee off on Oklahoma. In hindsight, the offense played a better game than I realized at the time. Honestly, Quinn Ewers was the weak link for Texas. He did get better later on in the game but never really got it going. Without his several somewhat inexplicable misses Texas could have set a new record for victory margin in the series. Here's hoping that gets cleaned up this coming week and we get a great performance back home vs Georgia. I started at UT in 2010 and haven't seen a ton of Ws in this series. I'm really optimistic Texas is going to rack up some wins over the rest of the 2020s, and that's exciting as hell. OU sucks.

2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

Jill Stein can't talk to black people!? No wai! Even accepting the premise for the sake of argument (I'm not sure I actually would) - that's not necessarily inappropriate. It's a different electorate in a different national environment/zeitgeist, against a different, single opponent. The 2019 primary has never been a good argument for Harris being a weak candidate. VP's don't help campaigns. They are a pass/fail, do no harm item. Walz clears that bar. -
I mean, probably, but that doesn't change that's batshit to be posting tweets about how the Zionist cabal forced out a NFL head coach because he wears a patch of his "home country" that isn't - that phrasing is intentional and just another way to rile up the dipshit rubes like our dear friend.

From the CNN article on the Woodward book: “War” offers a glimpse into Harris’ private dealings with Biden as his vice president. Woodward writes that at one point she was concerned about Biden’s isolation and called one of his closest associates. “I’m calling to ask you — to really beg you, actually — could you please talk to the president more than you talk to him?” Harris said to Biden’s friend. “Your president really loves you. You should talk to him more often than you do.” Woodward writes: “The Biden associate was candid with the vice president. Look, one of the biggest reasons that Biden calls me, the associate said, is I provide him a level of comfort to the point where he can swear freely about ‘what a fucking asshole Joe Manchin is.’” The vice president laughed. “That might be the only reason that he still really is comfortable with me to a point,” Harris said, according to Woodward, “because he knows that I’m the only person around who knows how to properly pronounce the word motherfucker.” -
That does not make Robert Saleh's "home country" Lebanon, as was stated in the posted tweet, Galaxy Brain.

Maybe you are the vodoo and I am but a NPC.

Robert Saleh was born in Michigan. Unless I missed something, Michigan is not in Lebanon. This takes about 3.7 seconds to verify with Google. Macklemore'ed/Icono'ed

Checking in at 4-8 here. 4-9 if you count the 2018 Big 12 championship game. It's not a voodoo thing I just started at UT in 2010.

Texas: 30 OU: 20 Texas is at least somewhat susceptible to the keep away/ground and pound game plan. Probably not so much that it costs them the game unless they give OU bad turnovers like last year. OU's defense is also good. This game will be close-ish in a way that never felt seriously in doubt against Mississippi State, but because it's Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl feels like living on a knife's edge for three quarters. Bottom line is that I'm pretty confident this Texas offense finds its 27-38 points as they so often do under Sark and I'm not sure how OU gets into that range without help from Texas. I think OU will actually outrush Texas, partly because of their own dedication to the run and partly because Sark has shown an inclination to pass to set up the run this year. I also don't think it's as big of a deal as it used to be given the prominence of the RPO and screen game in modern football. Texas Rushing: 128 OU Rushing: 138 Spread: -10, inverse of the scoring margin. It's 1:45pm PST and OU still sucks.
-
That's what I'm telling myself. Sark clearly treated the game as a scrimmage so maybe the order was: "Nope, play this straight up. We'll hit on some scores and get out of here without tipping anything." Or if not, then at least that they've had two weeks to reflect and implement a solution.
-
I understand why Texas is a significant favorite across basically every metric/ratings system and yet if I were to bet, never in my life would I consider anything but OU and the 14 points. just too large a spread for this rivalry. The whole "get focused" bit is stupid because: but I will say, I don't see how you can be a fan of Texas football and even think about another game the past week or two. If OU is just another game then just watch the NFL, which is a much better pure football product at this point. The Texas run defense has shown some vulnerability, most recently against the architect of OU's winning game plan last year, so this is absolutely the route I'd go if I'm OU. I'd be running Hawkins liberally and making Texas consistently stop the run, including the QB run game. You probably need a turnover or a big return or something(s) like that for that approach to get you over the top, but they aren't winning if they get in a situation where they have to pass to play catch up on offense, and the defense is getting worn out by an elite Texas offense.

That may be so and I wouldn't be particularly surprised if it ends up being basically 2020 round 2, with a little more margin in the rust belt and giving GA and maybe AZ back. The thing for me is that Trump is going to get is 46% again and it's very somber to know that so much of the country, well... *gestures* -

Gunnar Helm is better than him at football? -
Definitely not detrimental to the team, but I do not understand how you gloss over OU as a Texas fan. Like, why even bother at that point?
