Prediction Contest 2024 week 6, Texas v OU
Texas: 30 OU: 20 Texas is at least somewhat susceptible to the keep away/ground and pound game plan. Probably not so much that it costs them the game unless they give OU bad turnovers like last year. OU's defense is also good. This game will be close-ish in a way that never felt seriously in doubt against Mississippi State, but because it's Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl feels like living on a knife's edge for three quarters. Bottom line is that I'm pretty confident this Texas offense finds its 27-38 points as they so often do under Sark and I'm not sure how OU gets into that range without help from Texas. I think OU will actually outrush Texas, partly because of their own dedication to the run and partly because Sark has shown an inclination to pass to set up the run this year. I also don't think it's as big of a deal as it used to be given the prominence of the RPO and screen game in modern football. Texas Rushing: 128 OU Rushing: 138 Spread: -10, inverse of the scoring margin. It's 1:45pm PST and OU still sucks.

That's what I'm telling myself. Sark clearly treated the game as a scrimmage so maybe the order was: "Nope, play this straight up. We'll hit on some scores and get out of here without tipping anything." Or if not, then at least that they've had two weeks to reflect and implement a solution.

I understand why Texas is a significant favorite across basically every metric/ratings system and yet if I were to bet, never in my life would I consider anything but OU and the 14 points. just too large a spread for this rivalry. The whole "get focused" bit is stupid because: but I will say, I don't see how you can be a fan of Texas football and even think about another game the past week or two. If OU is just another game then just watch the NFL, which is a much better pure football product at this point. The Texas run defense has shown some vulnerability, most recently against the architect of OU's winning game plan last year, so this is absolutely the route I'd go if I'm OU. I'd be running Hawkins liberally and making Texas consistently stop the run, including the QB run game. You probably need a turnover or a big return or something(s) like that for that approach to get you over the top, but they aren't winning if they get in a situation where they have to pass to play catch up on offense, and the defense is getting worn out by an elite Texas offense.

That may be so and I wouldn't be particularly surprised if it ends up being basically 2020 round 2, with a little more margin in the rust belt and giving GA and maybe AZ back. The thing for me is that Trump is going to get is 46% again and it's very somber to know that so much of the country, well... *gestures*

Definitely not detrimental to the team, but I do not understand how you gloss over OU as a Texas fan. Like, why even bother at that point?- Everything is Shit: Tracking the Great Enshittening

I don't think it'll be big news and there will be a lawsuit in Missouri that gets us back to the status quo within a week. You and I both know the electorate is too dumb for this.- 2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

They aren't going to put Bama-Tennessee and Texas-Georgia against one another lol- So much Hate we need two weeks.
I do feel like this is an outsized portion of the most likely outcomes. Oklahoma's defense is legitimately good but it's hard to imagine Texas not getting their 27-38 points. Conversely, pretty hard to imagine Oklahoma getting to 30, which they probably need to do to win even if Texas has some hiccups. If OU get behind and starts pressing and making mistakes, or having to be one dimensional and throwing all the time, that's a really bad position for them to be in and it could go south for them quickly.- So much Hate we need two weeks.
Uh, the last time it was played? Beyond that, the rarity of that probably has more to do with how rarely Texas has outclassed OU since they hired Stoops. Texas has had the decisively better team, what, five times in the past 25 years? 1999, 2005, 2009, 2022, and 2023? You could make a case for 2008 I guess? Two of those were the first year of a new regime in a hard reset at OU. The scenario you mentioned just hasn't even had the chance to happen very often. We're in the third consecutive year of Texas having a clearly better football team and even that is unprecedented in my living memory. I'm optimistic Texas is going to have the upper hand for the next few years at a minimum and I am really hungry as a fan to see Texas rack up some wins in the 2020s. Texas -16.5 is silly. Not that it can't happen, but anything beyond a TD is a very tough spread to swallow in this game. Beyond two TDs and you'd be crazy to touch it.- Game week thread, Texas v Bye
Why the fuck can we not have two weeks of OU game discussion?- 2024 Season Thread and all the shit in between games
There's a big part of me that thinks this too. We have two whole weeks to analyze every aspect of this game and of course anything can ultimately happen. I know how I'd attack Texas if I were OU. But Texas is just a better team and if they play clean they should win decisively.- freshman edge Colin Simmons off to a great start

Hutson did hold on the TD, but idk how you call that after picking up the flag on Simmons. Glad to see Wingo back on the field after the injury earlier. Still limping but if he can get out there now he'll hopefully be good two weeks form now.- Texas vs. Mississippi State - 3:15pm on SEC Network
They did grab his facemask on the replay. Rather it just be fourth down anyway.- Texas vs. Mississippi State - 3:15pm on SEC Network
Simmons got comically held on that 3rd down but okay- Texas vs. Mississippi State - 3:15pm on SEC Network
