  1. Figure of speech. Texas just ran for 200+ on a better rush defense than TCU. The opportunities will be there.
  2. FIFY. Klein seemed to largely forget the forward pass is legal in the first half. Collin Klein was a top 5 Texas defender.
  3. Thought ISU was going to be the November trap game but it’s definitely this one. TCU sucks, Texas could cruise by running right over them, taking the crowd out of the game and preventing establishment of any offensive momentum for TCU. TCU could also shred the Texas secondary for 400+ yards and be +2 or +3 in turnovers. Get rolling with the crowd behind them and it’s easy to see it snowball into a L. Very wide range of plausible outcomes, I wouldn’t touch a 9 point line.
  4. Sure you can. They aren’t the same situation and therefore the decision making process changes. No two 4th downs are. I liked 4th and 1 call to go for it. That down and distance and field position (4th and 1 between the 40s) really makes it the only sensible option a field goal isn’t doable and punting from there is dumb. I was annoyed we got under center to run the ball which has generally been a disaster (and almost was - a KSU defender was in place to make the stop, Baxter and the turf just made a play). But of course, that one worked out and then some. Woo hoo. On the second one I think you take the points to make KSU’s hole that much bigger because the FG is a gimmie. I actually liked the play call though. Sanders was wide open for an easy conversion, just botched the snap. Shit happens. I can see why they would feel good about that so I don’t think it’s as egregious as the Houston game where they ran that stupid ass fake FG. Context matters.
  5. Didn’t watch much if other games this week because I was at the Texas game. Week 11 brought to you by score watching and tweaking my last entry: 1.) Ohio State 2.) Georgia 3.) Washington 4.) Oregon 5.) Florida State 6.) Michigan 7.) Texas 8.) Alabama 9.) Penn State 10.) Ole Miss 11.) Missouri 12.) Oregon State 13.) Louisville 14.) Utah 15.) LSU 16.) Notre Dame 17.) Oklahoma State 18.) Kansas 19.) Oklahoma 20.) USC 21.) Tulane 22.) North Carolina 23.) Arizona 24.) UCLA 25.) Duke
  6. lol I didn’t even read past this - did you just not watch the game? It was obvious what would happen. The “stops” Texas had gotten were just botched plays on OU’s part. Regardless, came here to that I think Sark and staff generally coached an impressive game this past Saturday, last four minutes of the guest half non withstanding. Joseph and Gideon need to go. I know I’m just yelling at clouds there and nothing will happen but this secondary is just horrid outside of Barron and Watts.
  7. I think that’s probably more of a “Texas could conceivably lose any game on the schedule while Alabama really just plays Georgia at this point.” Analytics both like this Alabama team and do not account for the rivalry factor in the iron bowl.
  8. TCU isn’t good and it doesn’t matter who they start at QB. Honestly the freshman is probably better suited for what they want to do. If I’m TCU in just running tempo. They’ll score some points because the Texas secondary is terrible but between Texas getting some pressure and just not being that good they’re not about to light up the scoreboard with help. Maalik Murphy flashed NFL potential in the scripted period yesterday but is a walking turnover. If Texas manages to take care of the football they should win. If they don’t they’ll probably lose. Hot take I know.
  9. What surprised me the most yesterday out of everything from either side is that KSU led in the “wtf are you doing?” coaching decision category by a pretty fair margin. While I need to rewatch with less beer in the system, the only call I remember as clearly nonsensical from Texas was passing on the FG to go up 20-0 as if this lesson hasn’t been learned already. KSU had several such moments and their opening offensive gameplan was frankly stupid as hell. Texas’s pass defense continues to be incredibly frustrating (if KSU isn’t allergic to throwing the ball most of the first half the outcome may well be different but that’s their problem). There needs to be a change in DB coaches in the offseason. But I think this was one of this staff’s better coached games at Texas and I give big credit to them for that. I had this one wrong in general. I thought the Texas defense would struggle to defend the QB run game and that the OL wouldn’t be able to pave the way for a string running game with KSU being able to focus on the run with a backup QB in the game. Murphy coming out dealing in that helped with the latter but frankly Texas dominated this game on the LOS. Impressive win with a backup QB, missing their best OL, and with officials being pretty on the nose about looking to help KSU late in the hands.
  10. What I’m hearing is he won the 40 yard dash but you kept running
  11. Yeah it comes down to what you define as middle class. I think the disconnect is that what the ideal of American middle class looks like in people’s minds - certainly for the older posters who are usually making those statements - is really the realm of the top third or quartile at this point. $200k HH income is what it takes to afford a “middle class” lifestyle with a couple kids including homeownership, kids’ activities, solid retirement/educational savings, a few vacations a year, etc. in some areas. That’s a high estimate for Texas - if you have financial problems at that income level here then that’s on you - but also $200k HHI isn’t “I don’t think about money at all” type wealthy in Texas like it used to be.
  12. The line has moved a bit toward K State. I have no hard data but that implies some money coming in on that side
  13. Think it’s the other way around. Texas OL controls the game and they’re in business. Struggle to run the ball and have Maalik in a bunch of third and longs, that’s how the offense stalls and the defense wears out.
  14. Offensive game planning and play calling is the best thing he does on game day. If you take that off his plate you just eliminate the only advantage of having him out there in the first place. I don’t know why this keeps being parroted.
  15. A legitimate contender for the Big 12 championship lost 33-7 to South Alabama. Another one lost to Ohio (not State). The, what, fourth (?) best team in the PAC cruise controlled over a team that’s competitive in the SEC. The Big Ten West exists (WSU may or may not even make a bowl out of the PAC and beat a contender for that division). Etc etc. CFB is a top heavy sport with most leagues getting kind of yikes after 2-3 teams, and the PAC has greater depth of competent teams than anyone else this year. That’s the angle.
  16. Yeah I think we see some of the heavy DL looks this week with KSU’s run heavy offense and heavier sets. I think staying within the 4-2-5 and just playing a bigger end is a better fit than the 3-3-5 but ultimately the point is you are probably going to see three down linemen out there more often than we have in a while. Starting Sorrell-Sweat-Murphy-Collins gives you enough against the run and pass to keep 5 DBs on the field.
  17. Oregon does look a bit better than Texas. You probably give Texas the resume nod as of today but that may very well tilt toward Oregon as well if both wind up 12-1. Lot of football between now and then though.
  18. Yeah KSU's DL looked small and pedestrian. They miss Felix A-U up there. Houston ran the ball well until they were forced to get away from it by the game script. Bit of a stoppable force meets a movable object thing going on with the Texas IOL but the opportunity to run the ball is certainly there. lol you are really out here just inventing grievances in your head I mean all bets are off if he gets a 1st-2nd round grade - I honestly have no idea where he is projected at the moment - but interior DL are one of the positions that benefit most from playing longer in college. He is just a third year guy too, no RS year. The staff can certainly point to the benefit of an extra year for Ojomo, Coburn, and Sweat. Even if I wasn't Texas fan I'd think it would be wise for him to return unless he had a legitimate shot at going in round 1.
  19. Being within 5 of Texas at home implies they think they are no more than a couple points worse at a neutral site. I suppose they could just have a high value on Ewers and would have Texas giving well into the double digits in this game with him but otherwise that implies a relatively high power rating for KSU.
  20. Nah, four down territory there was the correct mindset. A TD there would have been massive psychologically in addition to tying the game, and a FG doesn't do much for you at that point in the game. I'd change the play calls themselves and Sark has said as much in hindsight. The bad decision against OU was kicking the FG on the final possession. They had 4th and 4 with a scorching hot QB against a broken OU defense with no timeouts. 4 yards to essentially eliminate the chance of losing in regulation and get a shot at a walk off win. You will rarely get a better deal than that, especially considering the Auburn FG - great kick as it was - was not at all a guarantee, he was sub-70% from that range for his career. It's as simple as asking what is easier - getting 4 yards or hitting this 49 yard FG and then stopping the OU offense from going down the field?
  21. Since you didn't answer the question, I'll ask again: are you really unable to discern the difference in circumstances between the two games or are you just being purposefully obtuse?
