  1. NY Times: Donald Trump is cannibalizing what was left of the rotting corpse of the GOP:
  2. 'Cause every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man!
  3. Cornyn and Paxton going after one another on Twitter has to be one of the greatest things ever. When your Republican former attorney general and your Republican current attorney general are having a public pissing contest ... well, I'm making popcorn and margaritas.
  4. Well, it says everything, don't you think? If you invent something that you think is cool and will help people in your situation and it explodes/goes viral and this beautiful thing that you thought you were creating is used by others in ways that you don't support and had no way of foreseeing, that's not your fault and it says nothing about your motives, your goal when you set out etc ... You might as well blame Tim Berners-Lee for Air BnB. By inventing the World Wide Web, he set in motion the invention of Air BnB. Never mind that it wasn't his intent to do so. The Law of Unintended Consequences says that actions of people, and especially of governments, always have effects that are unanticipated. It is inviolate. Besides, rarely is anything 100% wholly good/bad. The very same Air BnB that you blame (in an incredible oversimplification, by the way) for making housing unaffordable is also responsible, in the cases of two elderly people I know in Marfa, for making it so that they are able to stay in their homes when they certainly would have been forced to leave after the Great Recession of 2008-2009. It has been a lifesaver for them, enabling them to not only pay their property taxes each year but to stash away extra cash in the case of an emergency --- an emergency that, in one of their cases, has arrived. Air BnB has also made it so that houses in my neighborhood which were in the process of falling down or even uninhabitable have been bought, refurbished, and tended --- thus raising the value of all the houses in the neighborhood, including mine. Finally, I never said anything about him being commendable. I said that, given the track record of causes he financially supports, he would be a good candidate to consider when exploring options to mitigate the impact of Tim Dunn, the subject of this thread. Maybe he'd do it because he feels bad the unintended impact of Air BnB. Who cares?
  5. When founding his company, was it his intention to make home ownership a pipe dream? You'll have to catch me up to speed on what Gebbia has said about Elon that makes you say he's a bootlicker.
  6. Guidry looks good and there will be an opportunity to play early. After the last couple of years of under-recruiting the DL, we need about seven DL this time around.
  7. Joe Gebbia seems like a good candidate. He's 42, donates a ton of money, has joined The Giving Pledge group. partnered with the Clinton Foundation to improve the lives of women, has partnered with the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation, donates a lot to refugee philanthropy, gave a 25 million dollar donation to The Ocean Cleanup charity etc ...
  8. I don't get Iowa. I've spent a lot of time there. It may just be self-selection, but the people I know are liberal Lutherans and Episcopalians of the Minnesota bent.
  9. Tim Dunn is waging a holy war on renewable energy and meanwhile Texas solar farms set a record on Tuesday for the amount of electricity they provided to the grid operated by Ercot ---- 16,668 megawatts, enough to power more than 3.3 million homes in the state during periods of peak demand. Right now, as I speak, at 8:49 p.m. on Feb 14, 2024, wind is supplying 46.6 percent of our electricity. Rooftop solar is getting better and better and there are more and more installations. I see them all over now. Dunn is swimming against the inexorable tide of history. It has always been true: build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door. Renewables are a better mousetrap already ---- and getting better and better. Tim Dunn might as well be a buggy whip manufacturer.
  10. Wow ... Lovejoy had some talented receivers with both Parker Livingstone and Daylan McCutcheon on the field. McCuthecon had 94 receptions for 1400+ yards and 20 TDs.
  11. Whatever kompromat Trump has on Lindsey has got to be some strong stuff.
  12. I should have said "After tweeting this last summer, Lindsey just voted against funding it." Scarborough today. He eviscerates Linsey.
  13. Lindsey just voted against funding Ukraine.
  14. This is a brilliant political commercial.
  15. Every time I see Kelce's mom I think of ListEater.
  16. I would support a lessening of the impact of your vote. For every five years after 65, you lose 15 percent. So, when you reach 85 your vote is worth only 40% as much as that of a 20-year-old.
  17. My brother in law is about 55 years old. He's had several sports injuries over the course of his life that lead to loose teeth and about two years ago he was playing basketball he got elbowed in the mouth so hard by a former NFL TE and, in his words, "I saw stars." It wasn't deliberate. It was a bloody mess. He lost a canine right then and now some of his other teeth are failing. He's considering doing what they all All on Four, where they replace all of the teeth in his upper jaw by taking out those he has remaining and, screwing in four screws into his upper jaw (sounds horrible, doesn't it?), then screwing a whole new set of teeth in. I believe this is what Clear Choice does, but he's read some online horror stories about that place. Do any of you know anybody who's had this done? And does anybody know of a good surgeon in the Austin/Dallas/Houston area that can do a good job?
  18. Well, these are his most modest receptacles ...
