  1. My jaw dropped when I saw that play, as did Paul Sunderland's. I don't know that I've ever seen a slide in front of the setter like that, but I really like it. If Butler is approaching toward the net, the defense knows the ball is going to be at the spot Butler will be at. On that front slide/quick set, they could have that timed for the set to be anywhere within about 6 feet of Jhenna. In this case, only the MB was anywhere close and Butler had a wide open look at the right half of the court to park one. There's a handful of combos you could run off of that as well.
  2. I don't follow recruiting, but there better be a DS or 2 in the 2020 class because we're losing every back row player we have except Peterson. I wonder if Shook might transition into Hahn's role as DS (and part-time setter when JE wants to get Jhenna off the front row for a rotation). I can also see Phillips pushing for more playing time next year over a freshman. Maybe either her or Asjia move to OH.
  3. And 1 or 2 of her 3 hitting errors were Jhenna's fault. Molly was a capable substitute, but Bri makes this team much better.
  4. Logan has clearly been watching film of Hollann Hans from aggy. She switched up her serve from floater to hard hybrid with just enough topspin to make it dip and Baylor wasn't ready for it. That's the 3rd match in a row the team had more aces than errors - right after we were bitching about that ratio a few pages ago. Makes it easy to laugh when Logan launches one like that. Baylor couldn't even handle some of the easier serves tonight. This was a well-coached game. We took away their only dimension and they couldn't do anything else. Their setter's 4 kills were from frustration. She didn't know whom to set, so she just said screw it and dinked it herself. Their coach panicked and used 2 challenges in the first set. The team followed his lead and they stayed in that mode until their one last desperate run at the end of the 3rd set.
  5. One less week between Labor Day and Thanksgiving next year.
  6. I've never played a down of organized football, but it seems to me that if Foster had even rudimentary tackling technique, he wouldn't keep hurting himself while missing tackles.
  7. So either one of you is Jerritt or Erik or one of you knows them. The two things we've been talking about here were drastically improved (for at least 1 match) on Saturday. 11 aces vs. 9 errors and the middles hitting a combined .444! Jhenna is really starting to get some good timing with O'Neal and Butler. I'm now convinced Hahn has a filthy floater that she can put different movements on at will. Now let's see if we can take that show on the road once before getting Baylor at home.

  9. I remember Sunderland talking about this as well, and I don't get it either. Unless she has some wicked floater that you just can't tell how good it is on tv.
  10. There's no question that we need to get better from the service line. I just don't think it's realistic to hope we get significantly better. Just for kicks, what do teams who know they are playing the best of the best do? The answer is they press. A LOT! On the season, our opponents are at 118 errors vs. 45 aces on the season for a 2.6 ratio. Stanford's opponents are at 84/24 = 3.5 ratio. Baylor's are at 113/42 = 2.7 ratio. Nebraska's are at 120/47 = 2.55 ratio. All of those are worse than our ratio. Okay, I found the stat that says we suck. I might have just made it up - points gained serving = your aces + opponent errors - (your errors + opponent aces) Points gained serving for the 2019 season so far: Texas: -8 Stanford: +11 Nebraska: +15 Baylor: +25 Aggy: +55 Rice: +10 Ouch! That is going to be a problem if we don't clean it up.
  11. Agreed. Setting the middles and communication in general is what caused the first set to last as long as it did. Then Butler, O'Neal, and Fields ha 10 of our last 11 kills to finally put away the first set.
  12. Here's the thing about serving - if you eliminate all the errors, you eliminate all the aces. The receiving team gets first shot at winning the point. If you serve underhand and get rid of all service errors (and aces), the opponent's side-out percentage is going to go way up because you're just giving them nothing but free balls. Do tennis players do this at the elite level? NO. They serve aggressively to try to get ahead in the point as soon as possible. This is the state of the game these days when you have a bunch of DSs and Liberos receiving every serve. You have to make them work for it. Don't get me wrong. It's frustrating as shit watching Micaya/Logan pound serves into the net. The reason Elloitt is okay with those is 3-fold: 1) she's going to get an ace for every couple of errors; 2) a non-ace non-error serve is highly likely to put the opponent out of system immediately; 3) one good pass after a service error and we side-out and are serving again. Would you believe me if I said Micaya and Logan are much better than they were last season and Peterson (who commits fewer errors) is the one who is serving poorly? Here are the numbers: 2018: Micaya - 71 errors vs. 21 aces for a 3.4 ratio Logan - 49 errors vs. 22 aces for a 2.2 ratio Sydney - 31 errors vs. 23 aces for a 1.2 ratio 2019: Micaya - 28 errors vs. 13 aces for a 2.1 ratio Logan - 38 errors vs. 21 aces for a 1.8 ratio Sydney - 20 errors vs. 3 aces for a 6.7 ratio As a team, were at 139 errors vs. 58 aces on the season for a 2.4 ratio. By comparison, Stanford is at 103/54 = 1.9 ratio. Baylor is at 92/46 = 2.0 ratio. Nebraska is at 108/50 = 2.16 ratio. The aggies might one of the best serving teams in the country. They're at 137/84 = 1.6 ratio These numbers show that we're one of the more aggressive serving teams, but we are not by any means as bad as we fans seem to think. TL/DR: we don't suck that bad; don't shoot the messenger
  13. Yankee: Change-up? Candy: Fastball.
  14. And the losing team misses a game-winning 20-yd FG as time expires.
  15. I took my wife on our first date to Broken Spoke 19 years ago last week. Thanks to Jeff Hughes, we two-stepped to G-n-R, The Cure, and AC/DC.
  16. Serving and passing were a little better than they were against aggy. Blocking wasn't. Playing Shook in the 1st set (even with a big lead) is JE's way of telling Jhenna that she's close to getting benched. Wouldn't surprise me if Shook plays a lot more against Tech.
  17. Holy shit, it really puts things into perspective when you put it so succinctly.
  18. When Jhenna left the game, LHN cameras showed her holding her arm. She might have hurt it. Shook's first 2 sets were horrible (bad timing and off the net). She was money after that. Our entire team needs to watch video of aggy #9 serving and take copious notes.
  19. Yeah. You and I really nailed it when it came to "scheduling" our children. 0 for 4!

  22. Each thermostat controls a baffle at the air handler that only lets air into that specific zone.
  23. As great as Offspring's original is, FFDP did a damn good remake of it. Reading the comments on either will choke you up.
  24. Jim needs to stick to his muppets and leave the football to the big boys.
