I saw an editorial where the author said Vance is the one pushing his “combat correspondent” title hard as if he was writing stories out in the battlefield when he was really a public affairs specialist who sat in the AC all day for six months writing puff pieces to make the war look better.

I really have no idea. To be honest, the first time I heard the term “Chicano” I saw it on Saved by the Bell: The College Years where AC Slater learned he was Mexican in college. And when I went to California that’s what they were calling themselves even though I had never heard that term used in Texas. But if we all vote for Harris-Walz they are just going to lump us all back in the same group together again which is fine by me as long as we keep this orange asshole out of the White House.

I’m Hispanic and I don’t really like the term Latino, but that’s just me. To me, Latinos from California are Chicanos, Latinos from Texas are Mexicanos, and Latinos from Florida are Cubans. Chicanos are Mexican but I have never heard someone from Texas call themselves that. And Mexicans and Cubans are way different from one another. I took a class on Latino Politics at UT and the voting+education trends were like this in the early 2000s: Cubans - Republican (most educated) Mexicans - Rep/Dem Mix Puerto Ricans - Democrat (least educated) But this was a generalization for second generation Latinos and above, this does not include immigrants. And it was from 20 years ago so the stats should be way different today. It’s just an example to show how Latinos shouldn’t be lumped into one singular group.

If Tim Walz can help get these types of people to vote for Kamala, it’s gonna be a landslide. He already did it for himself in Minnesota. -

It’s like if Ron DeSantis put on a JD Vance skin. I hate to say it, but JD Vance makes Ted Cruz look “cool” and “with it.” That gives me the chills so I might just fly to Cancun now. -

No disrespect to Kamala Harris, but I was more excited about Barack’s campaign in 2008. I was in my 20s and I was disillusioned because the war killed some of my friends and family while those who returned were not the same as before. My last year of grad school wasn’t so exciting because the job market sucked and the economy was in the toilet. I was worried about finding a job and having health insurance after I left school and could no longer get coverage through UT. Barack Obama gave me hope he was going to fix things and stop perpetuating the lies the Bush administration fed to us after 9/11. Obama promised to end the war in Iraq and pushed for health insurance to keep people on their parents’ plan until age 26. Looking back, I know the excitement I felt for Obama in 2008 is what young and olds feel for Kamala today. My key issues regarding the war and health insurance back in 2008 are how people feel now about reproductive rights, medical privacy, and gun control. Yes, I was more excited about Barack back then, but the excitement I felt was rooted in my belief he would be the savior to all the problems the Bush administration created. The Harris-Walz ticket feels different. I don’t view them as “saviors” who came down to help guide us through the fog the way I felt with Obama. I view Harris-Walz as people I grew up with who also happen to be in high ranking positions of power. Harris is like someone I can call up and say hey, “pick Tim Walz for VP” and she would actually listen. The Harris-Walz campaign feels like regular people. Just me and you and the neighbors down the street who also happen to be politicians coming together to defeat a terrible monster who is rotting the country from the inside out. The issues today are bigger and more life changing this time around, but my excitement level is tempered because I just can’t get it up as high 16 years later. -

The GOP will never get past MAGA unless Trump is dead. If they couldn’t drop him after J6 AND 34 FELONIES, they aren’t dropping him after 2 losses in a row. -

Odds on Taylor Swift endorsing Kamala? I know this is an unpopular opinion but I don’t think she will openly support the ticket if it hurts her economic bottom line. My MAGA sister and her kids are huge Swifties, but they also love Trump more and would probably start burning all her merchandise if she supported Harris. But knowing them, they’d probably just re-buy all the shit they torched after the election is over so it would theoretically still put more money in Taylor’s pocket. -

The tampon issue is fucking dumb. MAGA is clutching their pearls at the sight of feminine products in the men’s room, but they fail to see the utility tampons provide men in times of need. Don Jr would benefit from shoving a tampon up his bloody nose after getting punched in the face or snorting an 8 ball off a toilet seat. -
Bye bye CrossFit? Man dies during CrossFit games
MrBig replied to Jive Turkey's topic in Daily Texan
A lot of people I know who were into CrossFit 10 years ago are some of the fattest people I know today. During COVID they didn’t know how to exercise at home like normal human beings because they were used to flailing around on pull up bars at the gym. They said fuck it and channeled all their CrossFit energy into sitting on the couch for 12 hours a day watching TikTok videos and drinking from their gigantic oversized cups. -

“I still think it's Beshear... He makes way to much sense... and talk of Shapiro / Walz just throwing things off.” Oh my god every user posting this quote had their account created on March 25, 2018 as if some Ice Station Zebra Associate told them to post it to Surly in a coordinated effort to influence Kamala Harris and steer this election in a different direction with her VP pick.

These dudes want Shapiro, and Shapiro it shall be. They were wishcasting hard for Biden to step down when it was a just a pipe dream so I’m inclined to believe what they have to say despite my personal feelings on who I really want the VP Pick to be.

Do Trump voters know Trump is a bad person though? MAGA believes MAGA talking points because there is not someone convincing enough on the other side to make them think otherwise. Not all Trump voters are MAGA, and I believe these non-MAGA types of people can be persuaded to vote against Trump if the right message can be delivered. This is why I am pushing so hard for a guy like Tim Walz because I think he can connect with voters who vote Trump but aren’t MAGA fanatics because he comes across as a regular guy we all know. I know some people have a hard time believing it’s true, but some Trump voters can be swayed to the other side with right type of messaging. I’m not talking about the MAGA voters who are flat earther die hard Trump cock riders, I’m talking about regular people who vote for Trump because they are influenced by their families or churches or workplaces that lean heavy into the Republican Party like military and police officers. All some people need is a regular dude who just tells them hey, Trump is a bad dude and he’s not helping this country come together to help us solve our problems. You may disagree with us, but vote for us so we can work together to fix what’s wrong instead of voting for Trump who has absolutely no plan for anything. All they hear is that Trump is an existential threat to our Democracy and should be stopped. The existential threat to democracy argument is not going to sway these people to vote against Trump even if ruining democracy is the strongest argument that can be presented. Cutting Trump voters off entirely is a great way to remove negativity from our lives, but it does little for bringing people together to solve our problems. The best hope we have is to fine tune our messaging with candidates like Walz to help people understand how voting against Trump is in their best interest without doing it in a forceful or dishonest way. -
