Aggy after the semis: ND got blown out, we deserve to go the playoffs

Aggy after the champ game: We also lost to Bama by 28, we deserved to be there

OU, who reeled off 7 straight wins to end the regular season, won their conference and blew out A&M's best win:

OU-A&M would have been an ideal post-season matchup, especially as a first-round playoff game in an eight-team playoff (bumping OU to a top-four seed as conference champion), but also as a Cotton or Orange Bowl matchup.

But we don't get ideal post-season matchups, we get a honked out four-team playoff and a bunch of bullshit bowl alliances.

Does not count, fuck that shit.  If you don't finish top 4 in the CWS, it doesn't count - polls mean shit for baseball.  A&M did not even make the CWS that year.

Agree, but don't argue with an Aggie and leave that detail out, it's the greatest thing their baseball program ever accomplished

don't argue with an Aggie at all, come to think of it

How's that even possible when aggy has never even played for a national title much less won one?

1989 NCAA Division I baseball season
    Tournament
    College World Series
    Champions Wichita State )
    Runners-up Texas
    MOP Greg Brummett (Wichita State)
    Seasons
    ← 1988
    1990 →

because no one gives a fuck about the college baseball polls. they don't republish after the CWS (or didn't in 1989), so who cares? but it's technically accurate to say they've finished in the Top 4 of a poll in that sport, even though it doesn't matter since they didn't make the "final four" of the CWS. so not only is it just a regular season thing, it was only one poll-- they were 9th in Collegiate Baseball, 2nd in Baseball America.

try to see it like an Aggie would, maybe that will help

is it the first time in football, or the first time in any major sport? for some reason i think it's the latter

trick question, football IS the only major sport

but they've never made a Final Four in basketball or gotten that far at the CWS-- I think they had a baseball team finish #2 in the poll in 1989 or something like that

  5. KUTX has become a lot less listenable over the past six months. I personally feel like they were plenty representative of artists like Adia Victoria, Devon Gilfillian, Gary Clark Jr, etc, but maybe when they said they felt really really bad and naughty about their track record of providing representation of black artists, they just meant black artists whose talent wasn't immediately evident.

I’m in the minority but I still wouldn’t mind a PAC-16. Fun road trips, can keep some regional element in divisions, conference champ pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot if they’ve got 1 loss or better. Not SEC brutal/insufferable and not ACC/Big Ten completely uninteresting. Not happening but a boy can dream.

That would probably be our best option. The eastern alignment of the Pac-X (assuming that means the two Arizona schools, Utah/Colorado, and the two LA schools, plus whatever we schlep over from the Big 12) is a more attractive regular slate of games than the Big Ten West and as long as OU comes with us, more attractive than the Big 12's dog's breakfast of KSU, West Virginia, etc.

I just can't see us in the SEC, culturally. Also, creating a "super division" with Texas, OU, LSU, and Alabama in it (along with Auburn and A&M) would be self-defeating under the current post-season alignment.

Not sure how good the atmosphere will be if ash is retained only after the other 2-3 guys turned us down.

That's up to the head coach, Ash, and the new DC. Ohio State hired Ash to co-coordinate their defense with Luke Fickell in 2014 and that could have been the exact kind of dick-waving tension that you're getting at, but they got along extremely well and Ohio State's defense improved significantly.

Nah it sounds like Bama really wanted sark as the next guy but Saban wasn’t going to leave for two years at least. Sark didn’t want to risk it and took texas instead. Bama wanted to do the Day/Riley plan of action

Very possible. Hard to know what the truth is regarding Saban's replacement. Most of the news regarding Sarkisian's staff is encouraging, to be sure.

Why do people continue to point to the faults of past administrations when evaluating the current one?

because CDC does not have the power or ability to magically change overnight the culture of grabass mediocrity that led to those hirings. Just because CDC wasn't here to hire Charlie Strong doesn't mean we're now immune to terrible decisions driven by significant insiders. Our football program has a long track record of hiring conveniently and rewarding mediocrity, even under CDC (the extension). It will take a long time where we're clearly operating with the same cutthroat mentality of the programs we watch in the CFB every year before a lot of us are willing to accept that "it's all better now".

I agree that CDC firing Herman is a huge feather in his cap, assuming he had much to do with the decision.
