Some of us are still kind of stuck with the notion that D1 football is just bigger, more talented hs football, with school pride and loyalty and love of the game and all that being the number one motivator of the players, and, conversely, that it isn't a bigass, mercenary business like the NFL.

Of course, we should have been pretty solidly disabused of that notion about 15 years ago with VY, and also with TJ in basketball, if not earlier.  Some of us are stubborn fucks, though.  I still struggle a bit with the "business decisions."  Head gets them, heart doesn't.

Of course, my give a fuck about any of it is about as broken as it's ever been, so there's that.

it will certainly be interesting to see how this enterprise works as more and more fans part with the illusions that they grew up with

that's only one of several non-COVID problems with the sport right now, but it's certainly on the Mount Rushmore of its problems

Yes, Sam, play these two meaningless games so you can maybe have a freak injury and risk signing a possible life changing contract for our entertainment against for a team no one gives a shit about.

with Friday's loss, there's no reason for any of the NFL-hopeful seniors to play another minute

This is what you get when you shuffle the conferences around and Texas closes its season-- any season, really, where a playoff bid isn't at stake, not just this COVID-panic truncated season-- with Kansas State and Kansas, and then a bid to one of three dozen irrelevant bowl games. We're not closing with a bitter rival, we're not trying to accomplish a season-long goal and get into the Cotton Bowl.

In fairness, you've got about as much "proof" that he's not coming as everyone else does that he is coming.

we're standing around arguing what's going to happen if some dudes throw a couch off roof of a building

futureman is arguing it's not going to sprout wings and fly

so no he doesn't have any proof but he's probably going to look smarter than the "BUT WE REALLY WANT THE COUCH TO FLY" brigade

A guy like Meyer isn't going to hesitate because we play ohio state in 4 years.

I shouldn't have even mentioned that series. I knew as soon as I wrote that, people might miss the point.

  5. I'm not sure how eager Meyer is to jump back in, in order to compete with Ohio State, right now. We are all aware of how competitive he is. That doesn't mean he doesn't want to stack the deck in his favor. Or to say it a different way, as competitive as he is, it doesn't mean he wants to get into a game where the deck is stacked against him. In this scenario, he built Ohio State into one of the few programs in CFB that legitimately contends for the national title, one that is just chewing up (state of) Texas recruiting right now and who we play in 25-26.

That might be a little too direct for him.

Good point. Without you ignoramuses, how would us know-it-alls appear so knowledgeable? Thank you for your service. Your commitment to not understanding the topics you discuss is admirable.

This one will hurt your head, but in case any intelligent posters are reading along, the word “bedlam” has nothing to do with the outcome. It doesn’t matter who wins. It’s about the process.

Then why bother bringing it up?  The term is 100 years old stemming from wrestling, which is equally lopsided.

because it's amusing to see something totally fucking predictable referred to as "bedlam"?

beyond that, you got me, I admit I only spent six seconds composing that post instead of giving it the deep and sober consideration it deserved
