does he not understand that Texas people never look at anything A&M does, ever, and insist "we gotta do that too!!!!".....?

My point was less about his ability and more about his ATTITUDE compared to the entitled mentality of our perennially under-achieving players.

if the alternative is guys like Anthony Cook, I'd rather go with the crippled walkon

was he crippled? well either way

Regarding the "best college QB we ever seen", was I the only one who watched Burrow last year and thought "System QB 3.0"...? Thirty years ago, he'd have been David Klingler. Fifteen years ago, he'd have been Graham Harrell.

He deserved the Heisman, he had an insanely great year numbers-wise-- I just felt like watching him that if you switched him and Ehlinger, LSU and Texas would have had about the same results. Or if you stuck him on A&M's team, A&M was still going to lose all the games it lost anyway, even if A&M said "holy fuck we have Joe Burrow, let's open up the offense a little bit".

Burrow wasn't the primary difference maker for LSU last year. Joe Brady's offense was. We have two years of stats to demonstrate it.

I'm sure they are aware of these regulations

no no, they are not nearly as well-informed as sports message board posters

or social media, in general. home of the finest amateur Constitutional scholars and (since March) armchair epidemiologists anywhere

Lots of irony in the above two posters ignoring & undermining what EA is doing because it makes them uncomfortable.

that's the beauty of this stupid little game, isn't it? you either agree with the conclusions, or by disagreeing you prove they're true.

the irony is Emmanuel Acho's mile-wide blind spot for his own prejudices and limitations-- I mean, I don't think it's a con, I think he literally believes he sees more clearly and understands more deeply and is on mission to educate other, "cultureless" people

  6. To add-- I mean, I believe it. I doubt any of the truly elite programs (Clemson, Alabama, LSU, OU, Ohio State) follow very many of these types of rules. The anecdote though is Harbaugh raging about some photo of an Ohio State coach with his players, it doesn't give any indication of whether or not he had actual evidence.

    Because fuck Harbaugh

how the fuck you gonna look at a photo and determine if a coach is "illegally" "working with" some players? is he not allowed to be anywhere in their vicinity at this point? maybe they're talking about Star Wars

It's hard to train for the NFL with a broken kneecap

yeah, I was going to say, have we already forgotten Norby Walters?

but I don't think the under-the-table-payment boosters are really that type of threat, generally speaking-- their leverage is almost always (or at least used to be, before the NCAA stopped caring) over the program itself a la Sherwood Blount's "payroll to meet"

  9. "I'd rather be right than happy!" is such a bitchmade way to go through life, as is its distant cousin, "it's more important for an opinion to be popularly held than correct"

but enough about the posters on my ignore list

there is no way to look poised and intelligent holding the "thumbs up" gesture

the best case, like I'm talking lantern-jawed action movie hero or Jessica Alba in a bikini, is you look like you're trying to be silly intentionally

I do actually think it's possible we have a season.

well, then, you're worse than Hitler

It's pretty stupid the Big Ten didn't just take Ohio State-Michigan, put it on the last weekend they were planning to play, and then work backward from there. I can't really see the upshot of that particular experiment, though, so I guess we'll have to chalk it up to incompetence.

Just a note, but Idaho athletics runs about a $6M deficit yearly... might be time to pull the plug

There are approximately 15 players with an Idaho hometown listed on the U of I football roster. If they're losing $6m a year and 80% of the football roster's from out of state, it's hard to see what benefit the football program is to the state or the school's educational mission.

The student body is > 80% native of Idaho.

Lots of "be nice to people calling you to ask for money"

There is still ample dead weight in AD office to push out.

Agreed, but in this case, it might also be Del Conte reading the audience and knowing there's a lot of anger out there that has nothing to do with the person making the phone call and trying to pre-emptively encourage the recipients of the phone calls to take it easy on the callers.

This has "massive lawsuit" written all over it

Well, sure, this is just about the most litigious country on Earth, but as long as the scholarship is honored, I'm not sure the plaintiffs have a great case to force a coach to keep them on the team if he doesn't want them. I'm interested in seeing how they (specifically, they/their legal representation) argue it.

I guess I shouldn't be irritated though, you said "apologies" immediately afterwards.

Going to be hard to win a national championship playing that many teams with a pulse.

    that's not how Aggies think

first of all, they're GOING to win the whole thing this year, as of right now.

second, when they don't win the national title this year, regardless of their final record, they will absolutely insist that they would have won it if in a "normal" year. Whether they go 9-1 or 7-3 or 4-6, you'll hear "we were primed to win the whole thing in 2020 and then that coronavirus hoax screwed everything up and our season went to shit, otherwise we'da won it"

I fucking guarantee that is how this is going to play out.

For maximum laughs, although I expect us to lose three games this year, try to imagine if we somehow do run the table against a truncated schedule when there's no real post-season, and we finish #1 in a legit poll while A&M goes 6-4 or something. Fucking LOL. They will lose their fucking minds.
