aggy can "strengthen" their schedule on paper for this year knowing full well that the season most likely will not play out therefore not having to face the real consequences of additional losses.

that's the only reason I'm surprised at Bjork's tweet about not playing the gay fehgs at t.u., I would think this season in particular would be an opportune time to run his mouth given that any potential UT-A&M game will end up cancelled like the rest of them as soon as a player gets hospitalized.

good for Tom for welcoming him back and not pulling the "he quit on the team" shit

Herman may be 100% genuine here, or he may be smart enough (MENSA, even) to know that summer 2020 is probably not the opportune time to try to make a point like that

I would actually be surprised if this list is comprehensive. It might be missing a few

edit-- he should have said "top four", not "top five", because A&M's finished 5th twice but higher only one time (the AP title in 1939). You really juice them making it "top four finishes".

Relegation and promotion would be great for any sport, but it won't ever work in the US. I hadn't realized how bad Arkansas has been for so long. There should however be a massive reshuffling along geographic lines, but again, it's a stupid sport that will always have stupid alignments.

    you are conflating two things

one, the sport should absolutely be aligned along coherent and traditional geographic boundaries. Illinois might not be much, but it has a trophy game with Ohio State, along with a hundred years of history. That counts for something when they play and Ohio State wins by 50. Ohio State and Rutgers don't have shit. Oklahoma State is a boring opponent for me personally but at least they make sense in that we're both large state schools in the Southwestern(ish) part of the country.

two, relegation itself is a stupid idea for college football. Arkansas has been bad for "so long"....? Guess what, more people would still prefer to watch them than watch Arkansas State or Houston. That's why the SEC wants Arkansas. The broadcast entities (whether current network and cable TV or future web based providers) can get more eyeballs with Arkansas than Arkansas State or Houston (or Purdue than Ball State, or any other number of relegation-related comparisons we want to make-- I picked Arkansas State and Houston out of geographic convenience to make the point). There's no logical mechanism to force the Big Ten to drop Illinois and add Northern Illinois, even if we're strictly talking about their football programs and not membership in other sports or the (former) CIC.

There also isn't enough volume in G5 to support relegation. For every Boise State, there are two or even three dozen G5 programs that no one wants to watch regularly. You'd basically be creating a relegation system that never needs to be used, or one used to promote too many unattractive programs too frequently.

I'm gonna share a derail story right here, as it one of three that happened to me recently.

About two weeks ago, I was driving to go pick up a trailer for towing my 4 wheeler. I was on a time frame as I had to get to locations before closing. Nothing urgent, but a time based agenda.

I came around a corner and at the top of a hill was a 90s model Corvette mostly in the road, as there was nearly zero shoulder. I slowed down, turned on my hazards and asked the 70+ man at the back of the car if he needed help. He asked me if I would mind taking a jug to go get him a gallon of gas that he would pay for. I invited him in my truck and told him I would take him. He had a Korea Marine War Veteran hat on. He never brought it up, and I was okay with that reality. Turns out his actually lives in the town of 900 that I live in. The Corvette was basically his dream car and he'd saved up forever to buy it. The gas indicator was apparently broken. We got the gas and returned. I parked behind him and turned on my hazards while he got out to fuel up. He tried offering me money, but I refused. Just as he was about to start a county Sheriff car drove past, turned around and turned on its lights behind me. I explained the situation breifly, noted I would leave to reduce the cluster and pulled off as he came up to keep stay behind the Vette.

I felt a lot better about leaving the man and his car with the police officer behind him. I made it to my destinations on time. It was really late when I got home.

All this occurred as I committed to myself that morning to be better. Just a little. Be kind.

I'm gonna do the same tomorrow morning, because I can and should.

Feel absolutely free to flame or neg away. I'm good with it, but please, at some point in the next few days try to be just a little better, and I too will try.

    /thread derail

so that's what became of Rocko

Unfortunately, I think at least 1 FBS player will need to die for this to cancel college football this year.

what country are you living in? I won't be surprised if they shut down e-sports.

there's almost no chance we play, but there's too much money at stake and we love the lesbian underwater basket weaving teams CFB pays for too much to shut the golden goose in the fridge yet

    28-2 stretch

Fucking cracks me up. That's counting the first three games of the 2010 season, right? My gosh, WHY would anyone have been unhappy in 2010 when we stumblefucked our way to 3-0 against badly outmatched competition? What COULD have been bothering people at that point?

I mean, is it his/your position that our unhappiness caused the 2-7 finish to the 2010 season?

Funny quotes a gifs aside, when we hit the road, we’re all one mistake, one bad decision, or one split second of bad luck away from it all suddenly and unexpectedly ending

After rehearsal Wednesday night, I chatted with the keys player about random stuff just catching up, because we hadn't been in the same room in a few weeks. There was a tremendous car accident @ 620/Quinlan Park that night and she happened to text me a "heads up, here's how to get around it" because it had 620 shut down big time. I texted her to say thanks later and she pointed out if we hadn't hung around chatting after rehearsal, she might have been IN the accident-- she saw it happen a few cars ahead of her.

That was sort of an "oh yeah, PHEW, thank God" thing at first but the more you really think about how close that was, it's eerie.

  9. thrown away line in this interview with Mark DiDia (Crowes manager) is that a box set is coming this year. Three discs/three albums... I was hoping for a lot more, there are still probably twenty-plus unreleased studio quality Black Crowes tracks I'd like to hear.

    https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/353543

We also have a box set coming, which we'll be rolling out mainly on ecommerce sites — the Amazons of the world and our own universe. It's a three-album, three-disc box set. There's a live album that was recorded back on that first tour in 1990, that's going to be part of the box. That stuff's coming between now and Christmas.

    ...

Our fans still like physical product and DVDs, which is why we're excited about this box set, because it's going to be mainly physical. You'll be able to listen to it on Spotify and all that, but we feel pretty good about selling physical product, and we're going to be doing T-shirt bundles with it.

Then I come to the conclusion that the only thing that determines your value is how many people go out of their way to watch you play football.

as we shift towards the inevitable 64/68/70ish "P5 only" super-league, this becomes ever more true

right now, the Big Ten subsidizes what would otherwise be completely non-competitive programs-- Indiana, Rutgers, Illinois, Purdue, etc. when the P5 breaks away from G5, I think the P5 will be a lot more likely to ask "why are we paying Indiana to play football?" than it is today.

or to say it another way, the answer of "they're a traditional member of our 120-yr old conference" will stop being a good reason to subsidize their football program

    Which poster is this?

we'd have to know what Spurlin wants in order to make that determination-- is he mad because Del Conte's not like "man FUCK the coronavirus hoax, we're tailgating and I'll pour shots!", or is he mad because Del Conte hasn't publicly taken the Oath of Patriotism and vowed to shutter the athletic department until every American's been vaccinated twice?

and I never get off the Internet, so are there any other positions not represented above?
