  1. Yup, it was Insomnia, later Metro. I lived at the Woo my first year at UT (94-95) and spent many late nights there. There was an Eckerd Drugs next door back then. The kid who played Hirschfelder in Dazed and Confused worked there for a while.
  2. Kizer’s concoction was a double shot of Starbucks espresso poured into a 24 oz Steel Reserve High Gravity Malt Liquor in a Styrofoam cup full of ice. Called it ‘beer coffee’.
  3. Haven’t seen this posted on Surly, but this is getting some views on Twitter today.
  4. Dershowitz is feeling the heat. Here is an op-ed he wrote trying to discredit The New Yorker which is about to publish an article on him and underage girls. Dershowitz claims that the upcoming hit-piece is a leftist attempt to silence him because of his defense of Trump, Netanyahu and the state of Israel. https://www.newsmax.com/t/newsmax/article/924825
  5. The 2003 Vanity Fair profile on Epstein was in a Twitter post a couple pages back, but I’m linking here in case anyone missed it. It goes into a bit of detail on Epstein’s financial dealings in the 80s and 90s including his business deals with Hoffenberg. https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2003/03/jeffrey-epstein-200303 The article mentions his penchant for young women which was known at the time, but the reporter has since come out and said that a part of the article that mentioned the allegations with underage girls was cut by her editor.
  6. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/01/fashion/donald-trump-melania-modeling-agent-paolo-zampolli-daily-mail.html Melania met Paolo Zampolli at a casting call in Milan in the mid-90s. Zampolli is an Italian guy who was a talent scout for a modeling agency and ran around the NYC nightclub scene with Trump and John Casablancas who owned Elite Model Management. Melania to move to the US in 1996. Zampolli helped her get an H-1B visa to stay here and work as a model. He introduced her to Trump in 1998. The Times article mentions that Zampolli made an unsuccessful bid to buy Elite in a 2004 auction after Casablancas went bankrupt. What that article doesn’t mention is that Zampolli’s business partner in that failed venture to buy Elite was Epstein.
  7. Law enforcement is on the lookout for the Lufkin Licker. Statement from Blue Bell: “We have identified a Walmart in Lufkin, Texas, as the store where the malicious act of food tampering took place. Our staff recognized the location in the video, and we inspected the freezer case. We found a Tin Roof half gallon that appears to have been compromised. Based on security footage, the location and the inspection of the carton, we believe we may have recovered the half gallon that was tampered with. Out of an abundance of caution, we have also removed all Tin Roof half gallons from that location...” More here: https://abc13.com/food/police-wont-quit-until-blue-bell-licker-is-captured/5377253/
  8. Yes it was back in March when that happened. You can check out the lil Broughton bro on his Twitter which has his football and basketball highlights plus him tagging along with his big brother on all his visits.
  9. https://whorulesamerica.ucsc.edu/power/bohemian_grove_spy.html Here’s that Spy article.
  10. Here’s a video I saw a while back of Vince Gill and some other people at his place. Watch the first minute or so and you’ll see him pull out an acoustic from a drawer built into some book/music shelves. Pretty cool.
  11. Never watched it. But I owned and wore the hell out of this exact same Spoon shirt. Hits close to home.
  12. That video clip is from American Bandstand. At the end of the song, Dick Clark talks to the band and asks, “Who is the head man of the group here, gentlemen?” Tommy Hall’s response is classic: “Well, we’re all heads.”
  13. So she’s back in the news today. I don’t do Facebook, but apparently she posted a FB video apologizing for not being prepared for her hike and for putting her rescuers in harms way. “I realize that I was irresponsible, that I should have had my cellphone with me, that I should have had some water with me, some kind of preparatory tools that you bring with you when you go hiking,’’ Eller said. “It was not my right to be so casual about safety... That day, I never intended to go on any kind of spiritual journey, spiritual experience,’’ she said. “It was simply just a hike through the woods.’’ https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/06/02/amanda-eller-rescued-hawaii-hiker-sorry-irresponsible/1321006001/
  14. Got a text from a friend about this a few minutes ago and still trying to process this news. This one hurts like no other. I absolutely adored this man and his music.
  15. I’m curious about that as well. Conveniently, the dad was not at the press conference to answer that question.
  16. Just to be fair, the claim is that the dad had created the technology previously for a different purpose, not for use in searches, but that they would be using it for searches from now on. It’s around the 53 minute mark of the long PC video. Still sounds off. I haven’t watched all of the videos out there, but I’ve heard Javier mention in several interviews that the rescue was “straight out of a movie”. Motive? Hmm.
  17. Watch the first few minutes of the video I posted earlier. The doctor said she wasn’t dehydrated and that none of the physical symptoms one would expect to see from a person who was missing for 17 days were present. That is just one of the reasons this seems off.
  18. This video is an hour long, but there were several parts that stood out to me. First, watch the beginning where the doctor who treated Eller speaks. She seems to be in disbelief of Eller’s condition when she was brought in to the hospital. No signs of dehydration, no signs of electrolyte imbalance that you would normally see. Even though, as is mentioned later in the video, there were days where she went without water because the storms caused the river water to be muddy and she was afraid to drink it. Javier shows up at about minute 42. And you can tell that he’s already putting together a business plan for a search and rescue company that will incorporate the different technologies and methods they supposedly used to find her, including software that was created by Eller’s father. Eller’s friend Sarah Haynes also indicates that this isn’t the last we’ve heard from Eller. And she or the mom also mentions that Eller’s husband “just knew” that she was northeast so they kept looking in that direction. Count me as a skeptic.
  19. Spunk truck? I’m not gonna be able to get that image out of my head. It sounds hideous and totally base, but it really does roll off the tongue quite nicely. Spunk truck. I can’t stop saying it in my head. I’m gonna have to find a way to incorporate that into some conversation later today. Going out to dinner with some friends later. I’ll be looking to use it all night. So yeah, I’m in the portion of Austin that sits in the spunk truck’s district. What a fucking embarrassment that guy is. One more time... Spunk truck.
  20. I think those are the stock saddles for the Standard model, DougO. Those are actually pretty decent guitars and are much higher quality than Squier’s Bullet and Affinity series. Pretty sure those are alnico pickups too. That’s a lot of guitar for $60.
