  1. https://whorulesamerica.ucsc.edu/power/bohemian_grove_spy.html Here’s that Spy article.
  2. Here’s a video I saw a while back of Vince Gill and some other people at his place. Watch the first minute or so and you’ll see him pull out an acoustic from a drawer built into some book/music shelves. Pretty cool.
  3. Never watched it. But I owned and wore the hell out of this exact same Spoon shirt. Hits close to home.
  4. That video clip is from American Bandstand. At the end of the song, Dick Clark talks to the band and asks, “Who is the head man of the group here, gentlemen?” Tommy Hall’s response is classic: “Well, we’re all heads.”
  5. So she’s back in the news today. I don’t do Facebook, but apparently she posted a FB video apologizing for not being prepared for her hike and for putting her rescuers in harms way. “I realize that I was irresponsible, that I should have had my cellphone with me, that I should have had some water with me, some kind of preparatory tools that you bring with you when you go hiking,’’ Eller said. “It was not my right to be so casual about safety... That day, I never intended to go on any kind of spiritual journey, spiritual experience,’’ she said. “It was simply just a hike through the woods.’’ https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/06/02/amanda-eller-rescued-hawaii-hiker-sorry-irresponsible/1321006001/
  6. Got a text from a friend about this a few minutes ago and still trying to process this news. This one hurts like no other. I absolutely adored this man and his music.
  7. I’m curious about that as well. Conveniently, the dad was not at the press conference to answer that question.
  8. Just to be fair, the claim is that the dad had created the technology previously for a different purpose, not for use in searches, but that they would be using it for searches from now on. It’s around the 53 minute mark of the long PC video. Still sounds off. I haven’t watched all of the videos out there, but I’ve heard Javier mention in several interviews that the rescue was “straight out of a movie”. Motive? Hmm.
  9. Watch the first few minutes of the video I posted earlier. The doctor said she wasn’t dehydrated and that none of the physical symptoms one would expect to see from a person who was missing for 17 days were present. That is just one of the reasons this seems off.
  10. This video is an hour long, but there were several parts that stood out to me. First, watch the beginning where the doctor who treated Eller speaks. She seems to be in disbelief of Eller’s condition when she was brought in to the hospital. No signs of dehydration, no signs of electrolyte imbalance that you would normally see. Even though, as is mentioned later in the video, there were days where she went without water because the storms caused the river water to be muddy and she was afraid to drink it. Javier shows up at about minute 42. And you can tell that he’s already putting together a business plan for a search and rescue company that will incorporate the different technologies and methods they supposedly used to find her, including software that was created by Eller’s father. Eller’s friend Sarah Haynes also indicates that this isn’t the last we’ve heard from Eller. And she or the mom also mentions that Eller’s husband “just knew” that she was northeast so they kept looking in that direction. Count me as a skeptic.
  11. Spunk truck? I’m not gonna be able to get that image out of my head. It sounds hideous and totally base, but it really does roll off the tongue quite nicely. Spunk truck. I can’t stop saying it in my head. I’m gonna have to find a way to incorporate that into some conversation later today. Going out to dinner with some friends later. I’ll be looking to use it all night. So yeah, I’m in the portion of Austin that sits in the spunk truck’s district. What a fucking embarrassment that guy is. One more time... Spunk truck.
  12. I think those are the stock saddles for the Standard model, DougO. Those are actually pretty decent guitars and are much higher quality than Squier’s Bullet and Affinity series. Pretty sure those are alnico pickups too. That’s a lot of guitar for $60.
  13. If a cop is working 16 hour days for a month straight, there's a very good chance it's because the cop is doing it voluntarily, working additional hours off-duty to make more money. That likely is a perk, not a requirement. The idea that Guyger should be allowed to work again as a cop is laughable, regardless of the outcome of her trial.
  14. This actually happened to me while I was at UT. True story... I was living in an apartment near campus with three of my friends, and we were not the cleanest dudes. Three chicks who were friends of ours and lived nearby came over one day, and one of them commented on the plethora of dirty dishes in our kitchen. The next night the guys and I went out to a bar. When we got back home at 2 am, the first thing we noticed was that all of our dishes were clean and the kitchen was spotless. One of us remembered the comments from the day before, so we called the girls. They admitted that they had taken some acid that night, came into our apartment through an unlocked window and cleaned our kitchen while they were tripping. We didn't have them arrested.
  15. Generally speaking, most LP humbuckers are gonna be louder than Fender single coil pickups. I would start by looking at the height that your pickups are set at, which will affect your pickups' volume. In other words, how far away are your pickups from your strings? If the humbuckers on your Epiphone are set low or the pickups on your Fender are set high, that could explain the difference in volume that you're hearing.
  16. Four year old cigarettes? How about 35 year old cigarettes? They're still sealed. Should be good, right? My GF was born and raised in New Orleans. She went back to attend her nephew's graduation from LSU this weekend. Her mom found these while going through some old stuff. These were given out for free at the 1984 World's Fair.
  17. I just called the guy. He said that he doesn't want to sell it just yet. But he said he would send me some pics of the guitar later and that I can post them on here. He said that if he does decide to sell it, he will let me know. So all hope is not lost. We might just have to be patient. I had the wrong year. I thought he had told me it was a 70s LP, but just now he said it's a 1980 Heritage LP, which he said was Gibson's first reissue of a '59 flame top. I'll post pics as soon as he sends em.
  18. It's a newer model 50 watt Plexi head I found on Austin CL. AUTF picked it up from me while he was in town a few weeks ago and flew back to SF with the Marshall in the overheard bin. Pics are on page 13 of the amp thread, I believe.
  19. The guy who I bought AUTF's Marshall from a few weeks ago was a roadie back in the 80s for a well-known American rock band. During that time, he met and became friends with a bunch of other bands and musicians. He told me that he went to a guitar shop back then with Joe Walsh, who was looking to sell one of his 1970s Les Pauls. The shop lowballed Joe, who then offered the LP to the roadie for the same price. The guy bought it and still has it, but he's not playing much anymore and has been selling off a lot of his gear. I have no idea how much he would want for it, but I think he would sell it. He said he's thought about calling up Joe to see if he wants to buy back his Les Paul, but said it's been years since he talked to him and figured Joe has all the Les Pauls he needs. Provenance might be an issue since it was a cash and a handshake deal made before vintage guitars were a thing. But if anyone is interested, I can ask the guy for a price and some pics.
  20. Haha, the rest of the story isn't much better. FedEx ended up cutting him a check for the LP. And I believe they gave him more than he originally paid for the guitar. But instead of going and buying another Les Paul, IIRC for some reason he went and bought a cherry red Guild acoustic. That was a nice guitar too, but not quite the same as an LP. This particular model goldtop ended up being kinda rare. Instead of having the traditional mahogany sides and back, it was gold all over like the one in this link. https://www.creamcitymusic.com/rare-1992-gibson-les-paul-classic-all-gold-electric-guitar/
  21. Any of y'all ever play any of the Robin guitars? I've always thought the Robin Ranger was kinda cool. Fender pretty much ripped off Robin's design when they came out with the Squier 51. But then again, Robin was copying Fender with a lot of their guitars too.
