  1. Also, it can take a few minutes for a new capacitor to charge up and power on the A/C unit after a swap. I learned that the hard way. My A/C went out at the end of last summer. I researched and read it could be the cap. Located the cap on the outside unit. It was swollen so I bought a new one and installed it myself. Turned on the A/C and nothing happened. Fan still wasn't blowing. I was afraid I was about to burn up the whole unit, so I turned it off quickly and called an A/C company. They sent out a guy on a Saturday (extra fee). He came out, tested it, looked confused and said he thought I needed a new fan motor. He put in the new motor, turned on the unit and nothing happened, just like when I had turned it on after putting in the new cap. A/C guy says "Sometimes it takes a few minutes to power back up." He left it on, and sure enough, a couple minutes later it powered up and started blowing. Looking back, I'm almost positive I fixed it with the $12 capacitor, but unnecessarily paid for a new $500 fan motor because I didn't let the cap charge up long enough.
  2. You guys who are working a good, honest program in recovery, I sincerely commend you. Keep it up. I know that shit ain't easy. Some of us are dealing with exes and SO's who aren't doing that. My ex wants me to believe she's sober, yet she ended up driving over a granite historical marker out near Llano a couple weeks ago while on a headful of Xanax and no telling what else. (But it was prescribed to her!!!!) And she still doesn't get why I still think she's a danger to my kids.
  3. I am certain that is true for some of "you". And while words without action are meaningless, some of "us" are still waiting to hear it for the first time.
  4. Apologies to all for derailing this thread. And a sincere apology to Johnny as well. I was in a rush to attack and I should have paused and thought about what he wrote before responding. I'll admit, I'm probably triggered right now due to recent events with my ex-wife.
  5. No, it's not. Go back and read Into Action, Johnny. Here's the larger quote this came from... "Step Eleven suggests prayer and meditation. We shouldn't be shy on this matter of prayer. Better men than we are using it constantly. It works, if we have the proper attitude and work at it. It would be easy to be vague about this matter. Yet, we believe we can make some definite and valuable suggestions. When we retire at night, we constructively review our day. Were we resentful, selfish, dishonest or afraid? Do we owe an apology?" Again, it's ok to admit when you're wrong.
  6. I might be wrong, but I dont think I'm misunderstanding the 9th Step. Go back and read my posts. I never said that making amends and saying "I'm sorry" are the same thing. I'm saying that in some cases, saying you're sorry is "whatever it takes to make the situation right", which is the point of the 9th step as you yourself pointed out. In other situations like making financial amends, an apology might not be necessary because it is worthless. And you might not think that making an apology is a part of the 9th step. But it certainly is part of the 11th step. Bill W. himself says so in the Big Book. This is from the chapter Into Action. I'm sure you're familiar with it. "When we retire at night, we constructively review our day. Were we resentful, selfish, dishonest or afraid? Do we owe an apology?" It's ok to apologize. It's ok to say you're sorry. And in this case, it's ok to admit that you're wrong. It really is. I'm wrong sometimes too. When I am, I'd like to think that I admit it.
  7. I lurk in the alcoholic thread because I want to gain perspective on how the mind of an addict works. I don't agree with everything in there, but I don't post there because I try to stay in my lane. And I do have an appreciation for the AA program. I've read the Big Book several times. I don't post about this, but I have an ex-wife who hasn't seen our 9- and 6-year old kids in 5 years because she can't get the needle out of her arm. So I appreciate this thread. Troph, Buff and the rest of y'all, I just wanna say I'm hearing you loud and clear. When you've already dealt with a shit ton of selfish, destructive behavior from an addict, the last thing you want to hear from them is "I messed up, but I don't care if you accept my amends because I'm doing this for me." To the person who has been offended, it really just sounds like more of the same selfish behavior. Saying you're sorry when you have wronged someone - and actually meaning it - that's just part of not being a shitty person. That's why most of us teach our kids from an early age to apologize when they hurt someone. It's just the right thing to do, regardless of the steps. If you're apologizing to make yourself feel better and give yourself confidence that you're lacking, that seems like the wrong reason. Those might be benefits, but they shouldn't be the reason you do it.
  8. BearSchlong, Before you go, would you care to address this quote from AA's book on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions? This is on page 87... "Above all, we should try to be absolutely sure that we are not delaying because we are afraid. For the readiness to take full consequences of our past acts, and to take responsibility for the well-being of others at the same time, is the very spirit of Step Nine." This seems to contradict what you wrote a few posts above, that 9th Step amends are for the alcoholic, not for the person the amends are being made to.
  9. Tokey is the bandit's stoner sidekick who is riding shotgun. One of the subplots is trying to keep Tokey from smoking the whole stash before the bandit can make it to the picnic.
  10. STC, you and I go to a lot of the same shows. Imma hit you up the next time I go out. Let's grab a beer.
  11. AUTF, Thoughts on the Marshall? Whatcha think?
  12. This could also go in the covers thread, but I'll post it here in light of the posts above. This is "Run" from Spiritualized's debut album, Lazer Guided Melodies. It's a mashup - before mashups were a thing - of JJ Cale's "Call Me the Breeze" and the Velvet Underground's "Run Run Run". The video is kinda like Spiritualized's live show - lots of strobes. Don't watch if you're epileptic.
  13. The Super Reverb is a Franken-amp. The chassis is from late 1968, but it's in a blackface cabinet from 1967 so it doesn't have the drip edge you normally would see on a '68. It has a pair of stock Oxfords and a pair of old Jensens. AUTF blackfaced it for me. It looks like shit, but sounds like heaven. The Vox is an AC30/6 Top Boost reissue from 1997. The Marshall is a Bluesbreaker reissue, also from 1997. Both amps have a pair of stock Celestion greenbacks. These were my gigging amps I used when I was playing regularly in the late 90s and early 2000s. The Deluxe Reverb is a real '68 I bought a couple years ago. It wasn't working when I got it. AUTF took care of it and brought it back to life.
  14. I'm loading these up and taking them across town later this afternoon to a studio where some good friends of mine are about to start recording their next album. I rarely have them in the same room all at the same time so I figured I'd take a quick family portrait.
  15. Was Barnes really tapping UT co-ed ass while he was coaching here? I've seen at least one reference to this in this thread although I haven't read every page. Back in the early or mid 2000s, my ex-wife reconnected with one of her childhood friends who had attended the same church when they were kids. The friend told my ex that she was fucking Barnes but had to keep it on the down low. That woman was going to UT and would've been in her late teens or early 20s at the time. My ex-wife lied about a lotta shit, but she didn't even know who Barnes was when she told me the story back then so I always suspected there might've been some truth to it. I never really gave a shit, but all this "Rick Barnes is a devout Christian man" talk got me thinking about it again.
  16. It's a Berly.
  17. All this strap lock talk got me triggered. I yelled at my GF this morning after she picked up my 64 Mustang and tried to put it on - upside down. The upper horn was now the lower horn, and the angle of the strap peg was inverted. I could see the strap straining to hang on to the vintage peg, started having visions of the guitar crashing down to the floor and yelled out "No! Put it down!" I didn't even realize I had yelled at her, it was just a instinctive reaction. And she had no idea why I was yelling at her and telling her to put my guitar down. It felt like an emergency situation, and in the moment I didn't have time to explain the concept of strap locks to her or to even tell her that she had the guitar on upside down. I was just trying to avert a crisis. She likes to pretend that the Mustang is hers because she thinks it's cute. It's little (like her) and she likes the color, which of course is the most important thing. I'm gonna throw a set of locks on it today just so I'm not a dick to her anymore.
  18. Yeah, the cops told me it was a .380 revolver. I'm not a gun guy so I couldn't tell if it was a real gun or a pellet gun just from looking at it in the holster and of course I didn't touch it. The cops had their backs towards me while they picked it up with gloves and tried to check if it was loaded so I couldn't get a very good look at it once they started handling it. They said they were gonna take it and run the serial number to see if it had been reported stolen and were gonna check it for prints. I was just glad my daughter and her friend had the sense to not touch it and to tell an adult about it.
  19. Cops showed up. Said it's a .380. They couldn't tell if it was loaded cuz it was rusted shut. There's a pond about 20 feet away so I don't think anyone was trying to ditch the gun. Whoever put it there was planning to come back and get it.
  20. Sorry for the shitty pic, but can anyone identify this pistol? My 6-year-old and her friend just found this under a bush at the park across the street from our house. They didn't touch it and told her friend's mom. I'm waiting for cops to come check it out.
  21. That's a big fear of mine. I have a couple sets of Schaller strap locks, but I don't use them cuz I like to keep my vintage guitars stock and don't want to swap the pegs. I should probably rethink that.
  22. That Vibroverb is hot. Here's someone selling a Supro Thunderbolt for $450. Priced low cuz it's farting out on low notes. Could be an easy fix. https://austin.craigslist.org/msg/d/austin-supro-thunderbolt/6870752909.html
  23. I used to be married. The ring didn't interfere with my playing nearly as much as the despicable piece of shit I was married to.
  24. Just do like SRV. Throw some crazy glue on it.
