  1. I'm loading these up and taking them across town later this afternoon to a studio where some good friends of mine are about to start recording their next album. I rarely have them in the same room all at the same time so I figured I'd take a quick family portrait.
  2. Was Barnes really tapping UT co-ed ass while he was coaching here? I've seen at least one reference to this in this thread although I haven't read every page. Back in the early or mid 2000s, my ex-wife reconnected with one of her childhood friends who had attended the same church when they were kids. The friend told my ex that she was fucking Barnes but had to keep it on the down low. That woman was going to UT and would've been in her late teens or early 20s at the time. My ex-wife lied about a lotta shit, but she didn't even know who Barnes was when she told me the story back then so I always suspected there might've been some truth to it. I never really gave a shit, but all this "Rick Barnes is a devout Christian man" talk got me thinking about it again.
  3. It's a Berly.
  4. All this strap lock talk got me triggered. I yelled at my GF this morning after she picked up my 64 Mustang and tried to put it on - upside down. The upper horn was now the lower horn, and the angle of the strap peg was inverted. I could see the strap straining to hang on to the vintage peg, started having visions of the guitar crashing down to the floor and yelled out "No! Put it down!" I didn't even realize I had yelled at her, it was just a instinctive reaction. And she had no idea why I was yelling at her and telling her to put my guitar down. It felt like an emergency situation, and in the moment I didn't have time to explain the concept of strap locks to her or to even tell her that she had the guitar on upside down. I was just trying to avert a crisis. She likes to pretend that the Mustang is hers because she thinks it's cute. It's little (like her) and she likes the color, which of course is the most important thing. I'm gonna throw a set of locks on it today just so I'm not a dick to her anymore.
  5. Yeah, the cops told me it was a .380 revolver. I'm not a gun guy so I couldn't tell if it was a real gun or a pellet gun just from looking at it in the holster and of course I didn't touch it. The cops had their backs towards me while they picked it up with gloves and tried to check if it was loaded so I couldn't get a very good look at it once they started handling it. They said they were gonna take it and run the serial number to see if it had been reported stolen and were gonna check it for prints. I was just glad my daughter and her friend had the sense to not touch it and to tell an adult about it.
  6. Cops showed up. Said it's a .380. They couldn't tell if it was loaded cuz it was rusted shut. There's a pond about 20 feet away so I don't think anyone was trying to ditch the gun. Whoever put it there was planning to come back and get it.
  7. Sorry for the shitty pic, but can anyone identify this pistol? My 6-year-old and her friend just found this under a bush at the park across the street from our house. They didn't touch it and told her friend's mom. I'm waiting for cops to come check it out.
  8. That's a big fear of mine. I have a couple sets of Schaller strap locks, but I don't use them cuz I like to keep my vintage guitars stock and don't want to swap the pegs. I should probably rethink that.
  9. That Vibroverb is hot. Here's someone selling a Supro Thunderbolt for $450. Priced low cuz it's farting out on low notes. Could be an easy fix. https://austin.craigslist.org/msg/d/austin-supro-thunderbolt/6870752909.html
  10. I used to be married. The ring didn't interfere with my playing nearly as much as the despicable piece of shit I was married to.
  11. Just do like SRV. Throw some crazy glue on it.
  12. It's a late 50's Gibson LG-2 with a replacement neck. He paid $300 for it. Here's a video of him talking about it.
  13. You're doing great, VAB. Three chords in two days? You'll have it down in no time. You have a good ear, you know what you wanna do with your hands. Just gotta keep plugging away. Just like playing piano, muscle memory has a lot to do with it.
  14. Here's another vote for Maratac straps. I prefer the simplicity of the 2-ring Zulu. I use those on my Seiko and on my beater Timex. I also have an oyster bracelet for the Seiko, but it stays on the Zulu most of the time. Very comfortable, and I've never had any issue with springs popping out. I also like that you can get them with brushed stainless buckles or black buckles, which they call "low light", so you can match the hardware with stainless or black watch cases.
  15. I bought an early model blue line SVT head and 8x10 cabinet for my bass player back in the late 90s when I was gigging regularly. There's nothing like it. It's a bass player's equivalent to a Marshall stack. But yeah, it was too much amp for a most of the smaller clubs we played. There were a couple times we had to lug it up a flight of stairs to play a club that was on the second floor. That sucked. We eventually got a 4x10 cab which was a lot more manageable and still sounded pretty good.
  16. Haha yup. Sounds like someone is gonna need an Ampeg SVT.
  17. Avatar and Mojo cabs are cool if you're building a clone head, but a real Plexi head demands a Marshall cab with basket weave grill cloth. You're in business now, man. Be patient and see if you can pick up a used matching base cabinet on the cheap.
  18. This right here. ^^^^ Nice job, Buckeye!
  19. Yeah, for sure man! I'll keep an eye out for both of those. I saw a Steel King a month or two ago on either San Antonio or San Marcos CL, but I'm not seeing it now. I wanna say it was around $800.
  20. Buck Major was a three-star. He's now pursuing a career in professional wrastlin'.
  21. One of our esteemed members is remotely celebrating NAD. Anybody wanna guess who this "tube amp" belongs to?
  22. If anyone needs a Marshall 50 watt plexi head, here's one for a grand... https://austin.craigslist.org/msg/d/austin-tube-amp/6864020629.html
  23. I think its ki da co that your 64 has a factory installed silver faceplate FWIW. I'd probably be more ok with it if I could confirm somehow that it was factory installed. The previous owner told me that it came back from Fender with the silver faceplate, but that was the story told to him by the friend that he got the amp from. I haven't been able to find any reference that Fender ever did this to any other amps that came in for service so I have my doubts. I think it's more likely that someone swapped faceplates in order to pass off a working silverface as an older blackface amp. I haven't tried to contact Fender to ask them about it. I'm gonna do that and see what they say.
  24. I'm not sure she even knows what all she has. She said she has a lot and is slowly going through it all, trying to figure out what she has. She's mostly been listing vintage speakers of all types in various condition. She's selling them pretty cheap too because she doesn't know how to test them, so they are all being sold untested, as is. I asked her to keep an eye out for a blackface DR faceplate cuz the guy in Thailand who makes the repros stopped responding to my emails.
  25. I thought it would never happen, but I found a 1964 Oxford 12K5-6 speaker for my 64 DR. I've been on the verge of buying an Eminence Allesandro GA-SC64 for the past couple months, but kept holding out, hoping for a period correct 12K5-6. This one popped up on Ebay last week on a 7 day auction. I messaged the seller and agreed on a Buy It Now price and bought it. 15th week of 1964 which is perfect for an amp made in May of 64. This one has been reconed which is fine with me. I'll be making an appointment soon with the restoration dude to have the baffle built and grill cloth installed. The seller is a woman whose husband built effects pedals and owned a vintage music store. He passed away about 10 years ago, and she's starting to sell all his music stuff she's had in storage. When she shipped the speaker, she packed it with a bunch of pages from a 1997 Vintage Guitar magazine. I'll post a couple pics of some of the ads in the guitar thread just to remind y'all how much the prices have gone up on vintage guitars over the past 22 years.
