  1. That's badass. Feels like it's been forever since I loaded gear into a practice space. I'm a lil jelly. Guitar Mill did the butterscotch refinish on my 69 Tele about 10 years ago according to the documents that came with it. They did a really nice job on the finish and plugged some screw holes in the body from a Bigsby that was added to the guitar and then later removed. I'm contemplating having it refinished yet again back to its original white, but I'm not quite there yet.
  2. Mark Jenny sells an offset Tele body. For $375, you get to pick the color and amount of relicing, if any. I've read good reviews of his work. http://www.mjtagedfinishes.com/vtm-model/ He also sells guitar bodies on Ebay. You can score one for less than the regular price in an auction, but you wouldn't get to pick the color and the VTM offset Tele bodies don't show up as often as his Strat and Tele bodies. There's a nice sunburst on Ebay right now that ends in a couple days. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F312402012744
  3. Does your Tele currently have the pickup mounted to the body as opposed to the pickguard? My 69 Tele came with a non original black guard with the neck pickup mounted to the guard. I just bought a vintage style 3-ply white guard with pearloid on the back that doesn't have the screw holes on the guard by the neck pickup. In order to put the new guard on, I'll need to mount the pickup to the body.
  4. No, it was more than that. Trump posted a video of him and Melania posing for pics with Seal Team 5 in full battle gear. You can see the video on Trump's Twitter. I'm not posting the video here because doing so feels extremely irresponsible.
  5. If Trump goes golfing during the shutdown, his Secret Service guys won't be getting paid. Just read this on CNN... "The Secret Service falls under the Department of Homeland Security, which is among the nine agencies and departments whose funding will expire at midnight Friday. In contingency plans submitted to the Office of Management and Budget, the Secret Service said nearly 6,000 of its employees are considered essential, meaning they would still need to report to work in a shutdown. But until Congress and Trump approve new spending, those employees would go unpaid."
  6. I saw the recent pics earlier this week and had the same question. Yeah, this is from snorting heroin and cocaine for years. Also, a while back he accidentally snorted some glass while trying to snort some crushed up Oxycontin. That incident totally fucked up his nose and left him without a septum.
  7. The Squier Classic Vibes are good guitars. If you're interested in a Tele style guitar, Musicians Friend has this G&L Tribute in classy vintage white for $350: https://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gl-limited-edition-tribute-asat-classic-electric-guitar Musicians Friend has some really good deals in their open box section. They have that same G&L in an opened box for $307 and a G&L Bluesboy Tele for $287.
  8. I recognize that guy from the APD thread on TOS. He's the lead guitarist in a band called Criminal Mischief. I shit you negative.
  9. Today is a good day. For the past few months, I've been on a search for the right grill cloth for the 64 DR. I think the hunt is finally over. I just bought the grill cloth from a blackface Bassman cabinet on Ebay. This has been the main thing keeping me from getting a baffle made - I couldn't find the right grill cloth. I've looked at every reproduction Fender grill cloth available. I even tracked down a piece of repro cloth made by a guy who died a couple years ago because it was supposed to be the closest to the old stuff - it's close. But none of them are exactly right. Most of them have a weave pattern that is slightly wider, they're all just off in some way. If someone really wants to see what I'm talking about, I can post some pics of original and repro blackface cloth. But I'm not sure yall wanna see all that, and frankly I'm kinda tired of looking at them. This grill cloth issue has caused a lot of stress and consternation for me. I'm gonna sleep good tonight.
  10. Congrats BMF! I just watched that same video after you posted your pic a few minutes ago. That sounds great.
  11. Was about to post the same thing haha...
  12. That Liberty Lunch show was the first time I ever saw them. I've seen them on every American tour they've had since then and at a few festivals. The only other band I think I've seen more times than Spiritualized is Brian Jonestown Massacre. Spiritualized has delivered every time. Jason Pierce has hinted that this could be their last album and tour. I went with GA standing cuz I couldn't find any info online on Emo's seating while my tickets were in my cart. Wouldn't mind sitting up close, but I wish the seats were reserved instead of first come, first served. I rarely make it to shows early.
  13. Just got tickets to see Spiritualized at Emo's on March 25. This is my favorite band and my favorite live show on the planet. The next few months are going to be a long wait.
  14. Props to Pville! And I second the move to U in her B.
  15. Which brings me to the first issue up for discussion - the faceplate. I'm pretty sure I want to put a black faceplate on the front. Finding an original 64 faceplate is gonna be next to impossible. I've been looking for one since I got this amp. There used to be a number of people who made reproduction faceplates, but I've heard that Fender really cracked down on them so repro plates have become harder to find. And if you do find one, it's gonna be one with the numbers because those are the faceplates most people use to restore a blackface DR. I contacted a number of people who had either made or sold repro plates in the past based on info I found online, and they all told me they were out of the repro business. There is a guy in Thailand who is kinda off the grid who supposedly makes some of the best repro faceplates out there based on stuff I've read and pics I've seen. I got in touch with him, and he offered to sell me a 65 faceplate. After some back and forth, I finally got him to give me a quote to make me a one-off 'no numbers' plate. He perfected his template for the 65 plate a long time ago so he'll have to make a new template for a 64. It's gonna be pricey, but I think I'm about to pull the trigger. Am I nuts?
  16. It's just been sitting in my garage the past couple years while I've been on the lookout for original parts which don't pop up very often. I finally came to the realization that this amp is never going to get restored with 100% original period-correct parts. Even if I did find all those parts, I'd end up spending twice what the amp would be worth. I'm not trying to fool anyone into thinking this an all original 64 DR, but I do want to make it look as close to original as possible while being a great sounding player's amp. If I end up selling this amp down the line, I'll be totally upfront about what is original and what is not. For reference, here is a 1964 Deluxe Reverb. And here is a 65 Deluxe Reverb. Notice the cosmetic differences. The most obvious one is the lack of a Fender logo on the grill of the 64. Supposedly this was a cost-saving measure by Leo. The smaller early blackfaces like the Deluxe and the Princeton did not have the logo on the grill. Some of the early 65 DRs came without the logo, but most have it by mid-1965. The other difference is the lack of the little 1s and 2s above the inputs on the 64. Sometime in late 1964, the 1s and 2s start appearing over the inputs, but I've seen one made in Dec 64 that didn't have the numbers as Fender continued to use up the 'no numbers' plates. Mine is a fairly early one made in May. It definitely would've had a 'no numbers' plate.
  17. I have finally decided to begin the restoration of my 1964 Deluxe Reverb. Y'all might remember this amp from the other site. Here's the rundown... I got this amp in a trade a couple years ago. It probably hasn't been up and running in about 15 years. It was missing the speaker, baffle and grill cloth. Someone swapped the original black faceplate with a plate from a 70s silverface. The damage on the left front side of the cabinet is supposedly from a cat who used the amp as a scratching post. Replacing the missing parts is the biggest challenge to restoring this amp. Fender didn't make many DRs in 1964, so finding original period-correct parts is nearly impossible. I've done a good bit of research on early blackface DRs since I bought this amp, and I kinda have a plan in place for this restoration, but I would really appreciate some feedback from you guys as I am still unsure about a few issues. I'll dive deeper into those issues in subsequent posts. Here are a few pics so you can see what I'm dealing with...
  18. Gonna see Nine Inch Nails tonight at the Saenger in New Orleans. This is the third of three shows. They played here Friday and Saturday night too. Never seen NIN or been to the Saenger before.
  19. I believe Fender also made Telecasters, P-basses and Jazz basses in the International Colors Series. Y'all remember when I picked up that minty 68 Deluxe Reverb for AUTF a couple years ago from that collector in northwest Austin? That guy had a Maui Blue Tele from this series in his collection. That was the heaviest Tele I've ever held. It felt like it had a half-inch thick coat of poly on it.
  20. I'll keep my eyes open and let you know if I see one at a good price locally or online. I've been spending a lot of time lately on Ebay, Reverb and other online stores looking for some vintage amp and guitar parts. I can add a Hummingbird Pro to the list of stuff I'm looking for.
  21. Is this one missing the pickguard? I haven't seen another one of these without a guard. If you're not in a hurry, you should be able to find another one in the $1500 range in better condition. Just keep an eye on Ebay and Reverb.
  22. According to TMZ, the shooter was posting on Instagram during the shooting. Also says he was possibly targeting former classmates who had bullied him because he had a lazy eye. http://m.tmz.com/#!2018/11/09/thousand-oaks-bar-shooter-ian-long-post-instagram-killing-revenge/
  23. A friend of mine works at a store in town that is a Fender dealer. He sent me a pic of that guitar last week after it arrived and was unboxed at the store. My first thought was, "Block markers on a Fender? Jimmyjazz would not approve."
