  1. That sounds like a linear taper pot as opposed to an audio or log taper pot which is what Gibson and most companies use nowadays. No idea if linear pots were used back then. Someone else here may know.
  2. Gil, can we get a closeup shot of the pickup? Or can you take a close look at at it? According to a couple things I was reading, the Charlie Christian pickup had a notch in the “blade” underneath the B string starting around 1938. Pickups with flat blades were still used in some 1939 models, so it’s not a definitive way to age the guitar. But if the pickup is notched, it was likely made 1938 or later.
  3. Assuming there’s no serial number on the back of the headstock, look inside the treble side f-hole. You might see a factory order number on the inside of the back of the guitar. It’s a stamp with the last digit(s) sometimes being hand-written. edit: Sorry, just now saw that you said you already looked inside with a flashlight. If this guitar has a FON, that’s where it would typically be found.
  4. I just watched this on Reddit. It was similar to a Mexican cartel execution video. I don’t understand the language and I’m not going back to watch it again to look for details and clues on their uniforms, so I can’t confirm with 100% certainty that they were Chechens. But they were filming the execution, so yeah, I’m going with Chechen. The “traitor” was a Russian paratrooper wearing the traditional blue and white striped shirt which is red by the end.
  5. I’m pretty sure I have a Martin D-15M (or is it a DM?) at home. If you’re in Austin and interested in checking it out, just let me know. I’d be happy to loan it out for a bit.
  6. “Ada Hutchinson. I call him Ada, not Asa, because of certain reasons.”

  8. Is that an American Fender? I read the description and didn't see it anywhere, they usually plaster USA everywhere if it is. Yup, it’s an American Fender. The Adorama page doesn’t mention it, but other sites that sell this guitar (like Musician’s Friend) say the country of origin is USA.
  9. The least expensive American made Tele starts at around $1400. A couple cosmetic features on this particular model drive the price up: the nitrocellulose finish and the white binding on the front and back edges of the body. And Lake Placid Blue is a somewhat limited color An American Tele in nitro is a steal at $1500.
