  1. @Goredho That’s a striking 330. Tell us more. Not being too familiar with Slim Harpo, what are the specs on this one? I’m assuming it’s based on a particular year model?
  2. Any of y’all ever played EMG’s in a Strat? I just bought a Fender tweed case with an American Strat inside that is in pieces and needs to be put back together. Paid $275 for it. I was told that the original owner had taken it apart intending to repaint the body. Then he died. The pickguard has a set of EMG’s in it. It needs to be reconnected to the output jack. I’ll get some pics up in a bit after I put it back together.
  3. I’ll agree that’s a really nice guitar for $300. I took my GF’s nephew to Guitar Center last year to buy an acoustic. He had played a friend’s Taylor that he liked, so he went in biased towards Taylors. I made him play a bunch of guitars back to back. He ended up buying an entry level Taylor Academy 12e, but he really liked and almost bought this same Alvarez which was less than half the price of the Taylor.
  4. I’ve never owned a tweed before but there’s a chance it could happen. I responded to a Craigslist ad for a guitar yesterday and asked the seller for some pics. He texted me some pics and then asked, “how’s that Deluxe Reverb doing?” It was the same guy who sold me the 64 Deluxe Reverb project that I restored over the past couple years. I sent him a video of the 64 so he could hear how it sounds and also sent him a pic of the 64 BFDR next to my 68 SFDR. He responded, “Now you need to buy my old 50s tweed deluxe to complete the set.” He said he hadn’t thought about selling it until he saw what I did with the 64 BFDR that I got from him. He said the tweed sounds great but it was recovered in some kind of tweed looking tolex before he got it. That’s not ideal, but it might drop the value down to something I can afford and I don’t mind doing a restoration. He said he’s not certain about the year or circuit, but it’s not a TV front and he thinks it might be a 5E3. I’m waiting for him to send me some pics and hoping he’s not regretting the thought of parting with it.
  5. Are you in Austin? If so, I have two Squier CV’s you’re welcome to borrow and try out. I’ve got a 50s Strat in Fiesta Red that I posted a couple pages back and also have a 60s Custom Tele in sunburst with binding. Both of mine are earlier models made in China.
  6. Do you recall where you’ve seen this? The little I’ve read on this subject indicated that the decriminalization policy in Austin only applies to marijuana and not to processed THC aka edibles and carts. I hope you’re right.
  7. https://www.thetrumparchive.com Trump’s tweets are archived here. It’s searchable too. For instance, you can search for “like a dog” and see the 24 times Trump used one of his favorite phrases.
  8. GF and I went to Red Rocks to see The National a few years ago. Had a great time but it was snowing and really cold. Going back in April for Kevin Gates and Gucci Mane. Also have tickets in 2022 for: Beach House at Waterloo Park Spiritualized at Scoot Inn Rage Against the Machine w/Run the Jewels in Las Cruces Girl Talk at Emo’s Pavement at Moody Theater I’ll be stoked if all these shows actually happen.
  9. Deej, which CV 50’s Strat did you have before? There was a guy selling a white one with gold pickguard on CL today for $260, looks like it sold. I picked up this used Fiesta Red one with a few bumps and bruises a few months back for the price of a new Bullet.
  10. How does that old saying go? If you can beat them, join them?
  11. GameStop is having their last PS5 drop before Christmas right now. Must buy in person at a store and it’s a $795 bundle with the disc version and some games. I’m in line now, looks like I should get one. The boy is gonna shit himself on Christmas morning.
  12. According to this article, Douglas was committed to Baylor earlier in the year. Then he decommitted and committed to USC without ever visiting campus back in August. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/college/usc/.amp/recruiting/texas-wide-receiver-commits-to-usc-without-ever-visiting-campus
  13. Went to the late show at Bass last night with my GF and another Surly and his wife. Laughed my ass off. Loved the new material. We actually left before it ended after he started telling older jokes that we'd already heard and people in the crowd were shouting out punchlines. But that was only because it was really late and our old asses had to get up really early. The black kid working at 7-11 bit is never not funny.
  14. You should go try both if they have them in stock. Besides the pickups, the other big difference will be in the feel of the neck. The Classic Vibe has a glossy amber tint with narrow frets. The Affinity neck has a satin finish with medium jumbo frets I believe. Vintage style tuners and bridge on the CV vs modern style on the Affinity. I'm a fan of the Classic Vibe series. They're generally the highest quality guitars in the Squier line, on par with entry level Fender IMO, which is reflected in the price difference. Try both if you can. If setup properly, the CV "should" be the better instrument, but you might prefer the more modern feel of the Affinity.
  15. Here's a pic of a Player series body.
  16. For those of you into celebrity guitars, Romeo Rose's Juliet is on the market. https://austin.craigslist.org/msg/d/austin-romeo-roses-guitar-juliet/7405922443.html
  17. I missed out on the presale on Thursday for the Austin show because I was getting presale for Spiritualized. Managed to snag Pavement tickets in the public sale on Friday. Tame Impala tonight at COTA.
  18. This is my jam. Don't judge me.
  19. Here’s another vote for the Taylor Academy line. My GF’s nephew came to town earlier this year and asked me to help him buy a new acoustic electric. We tried a bunch and he ended up going with the Taylor Academy 12E. It’s got a grand concert shaped body so it’s smaller than a dreadnaught and really manageable in terms of its size. Like most Taylors, it was set up well and was easy to play out of the box. At $699, it’s a lot of bang for your buck.
