Austin -- We are losing this place
The Tyler’s is closed and now empty I believe. The Scientology building is all boarded up, but the Scientologists still hang out in front and try to recruit you. I was walking down the drag one day last week, passing by the condemned looking building and saw one of them out front passing out flyers and another sitting at a table with some books and an e-meter. I kept my head down and walked past them. On the next block, Alfred Collins and another guy on the team rode by on scooters. Didn’t recognize the other guy, but he was a big dude, maybe D line? I picked up my lunch and then headed back the way I came. I get to the old Scientology building, and this other unidentified player is sitting at the table, gripping the cans of the e-meter. Meanwhile, Collins is riding his scooter up and down the block waiting for the other dude. Not sure how long he was waiting, but if we’re missing a lineman that’s what happened to him. Scientologists got him.

$700 for a nitro finished Fender is a pretty good deal these days. So is $750 when you consider that the new Vintera version of this guitar is now $1199. This one is a 2018 that probably sold for $950 new. This one is the 60s road worn. Should have 7.5 radius with vintage style frets, pau ferro fretboard and Tex-Mex pickups. Fender switched pickups in these in 2019 when it became part of the Vintera line. I’d ask about fret wear which isn’t really visible in the pics.- The Guitar Pron Thread
Agreed on the neck. They’re similar. I had a Baja a few years ago, and that one had a really chunky neck. This Vintera RW feels even thicker. It might be about the same thickness front to back, but feels bigger because there’s not much V in the shape. It’s broad shouldered and clubby, not much taper. Speaking of price hike, the 50s Strat I bought is a 2019 from the first year of the Vintera line. It was purchased new at Strait Music and the price tag that was in the case had a list price of $899. Same guitar is now $1099 on Sweetwater.- The Guitar Pron Thread
I picked up another used Vintera last month, a 50s Road Worn Tele in vintage blonde. Totally different feel with the reliced nitro compared to the glossy Strat. I think the neck is considered a U shape, feels like a really fat C. Pretty sure it’s the thickest neck I’ve ever had on a Tele.- The Guitar Pron Thread
I got this one yesterday. It’s a 2019 Vintera 50s Stratocaster in Sonic Blue, ahem. 7.5 radius, vintage frets. Soft V neck profile that is really comfortable, almost U shape. A very well made Mexican Fender. It has a glossy polyester finish which separates it from the higher priced American reissues and Custom Shop models, but overall a well put together vintage spec Strat. I got an incredible deal on it that I couldn’t pass up. It still had the stock setup and strings, protective plastic on the back cover. I polished the frets and put new strings on it just now, haven’t even plugged it in yet.- The Guitar Pron Thread

Search on Reverb for “Dean ML 79”. I believe that’s the model number. You’ll see both the Floyd Rose and the hardtail versions. Here’s a new one with the stock zebra pickups for $649: https://reverb.com/item/45426277-dean-ml-79-electric-guitar-in-trans-brazilia-ml79-new-flame-maple And here’s a used one with a Dimebucker in the bridge for $500: https://reverb.com/item/46627662-dean-ml-79-string-thru While I was digging around I did see another similar model called an MLX that is in the $300-400 range, but it has a bolt on neck.- The Guitar Pron Thread
@tbone_That’s an awesome story. And you tell it well. @AnotherUTFan I’m not a Dean guy so I might be wrong here. But the Dean at the pawn shop looks like the original pickups may have been replaced. Is that a Dimebucker in the bridge? If so, the pic above is timely and appropriate.- RIP La Mexicana Bakery on South 1st

Similar experience here. My 12-year-old tested positive on Sunday. Nobody else in the house has any symptoms, and we’re all testing negative on at home rapid tests. My 9-year-old’s elementary school said she should come to school today but she has to get tested on Thursday (5 days after she was exposed to symptomatic brother)in order to continue coming to school. I also found out this morning on our way to school that one of the 9-year-old’s friends woke up with a fever this morning, and they were around each other over the weekend. I kept her home. On the flip side, the 12-year-old who is positive can return to school on Monday if he remains free of fever and symptoms go away. He doesn’t need proof of negative test to return. But my 9-year-old has to have a negative test to return because she exposed.- The Guitar Pron Thread
Yup. My first real guitar was my late 60s SG Jr with a P90 in the bridge. I bought it for $300 cuz it had a repaired headstock break which is still stable almost 30 years later. That shop in east Texas had a late 60s 330 in cherry that I still think about. I don’t recall how much they wanted for it then. It was probably under a grand, but that was a lot more money than 18-year-old me had in his pocket.- The Guitar Pron Thread
Yeah I figured if they’re good enough for Gilmour, they’re worth trying out. I don’t have the DG20 loaded pickguard. It looks like I’ve got a set of EMG SA’s which are the same as the ones in the DG20, but the DG20 has a boost in the circuit. I need to get a new 9V and study up some more on the wiring diagram before I try to reconnect the electronics. (Apparently there’s no ground wire connection to the the trem claw with active pickups?) I assembled the guitar just to see how it all fit together. Every piece connected to the body was in a bag. It’s a 2009 Highway 1 with the thin satin finish that wears pretty quickly. Body is light and resonant with some good mojo. This neck has jumbo frets and came with a set of locking tuners which I’ve never used before.- The Guitar Pron Thread
@Goredho That’s a striking 330. Tell us more. Not being too familiar with Slim Harpo, what are the specs on this one? I’m assuming it’s based on a particular year model? - The Guitar Pron Thread
