  1. According to this article, Douglas was committed to Baylor earlier in the year. Then he decommitted and committed to USC without ever visiting campus back in August. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/college/usc/.amp/recruiting/texas-wide-receiver-commits-to-usc-without-ever-visiting-campus
  2. They’re Eskimo sisters.
  3. Went to the late show at Bass last night with my GF and another Surly and his wife. Laughed my ass off. Loved the new material. We actually left before it ended after he started telling older jokes that we'd already heard and people in the crowd were shouting out punchlines. But that was only because it was really late and our old asses had to get up really early. The black kid working at 7-11 bit is never not funny.
  4. You should go try both if they have them in stock. Besides the pickups, the other big difference will be in the feel of the neck. The Classic Vibe has a glossy amber tint with narrow frets. The Affinity neck has a satin finish with medium jumbo frets I believe. Vintage style tuners and bridge on the CV vs modern style on the Affinity. I'm a fan of the Classic Vibe series. They're generally the highest quality guitars in the Squier line, on par with entry level Fender IMO, which is reflected in the price difference. Try both if you can. If setup properly, the CV "should" be the better instrument, but you might prefer the more modern feel of the Affinity.
  5. Here's a pic of a Player series body.
  6. For those of you into celebrity guitars, Romeo Rose's Juliet is on the market. https://austin.craigslist.org/msg/d/austin-romeo-roses-guitar-juliet/7405922443.html
  7. I missed out on the presale on Thursday for the Austin show because I was getting presale for Spiritualized. Managed to snag Pavement tickets in the public sale on Friday. Tame Impala tonight at COTA.
  8. This is my jam. Don't judge me.
  9. Here’s another vote for the Taylor Academy line. My GF’s nephew came to town earlier this year and asked me to help him buy a new acoustic electric. We tried a bunch and he ended up going with the Taylor Academy 12E. It’s got a grand concert shaped body so it’s smaller than a dreadnaught and really manageable in terms of its size. Like most Taylors, it was set up well and was easy to play out of the box. At $699, it’s a lot of bang for your buck.
  10. Even if you see it listed, don’t get your hopes up. It might be mine already. For example, this guitar appears to be for sale. But it’s not. It’s mine. https://collegestation.craigslist.org/msg/d/dime-box-electric-guitar/7380438538.html
  11. I haven’t run the serial number on it but the guy I got it from said he bought it new about 6 years ago. It’s got some forearm shine on it, so it’s been played some but the frets are in great shape with almost no wear on them. The strings that were on it were disgusting. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were the original strings.
  12. Here’s something to hold y’all over til noharley’s FedEx man shows up. I picked up this D-15M a couple days ago for a ridiculous price. It needed a good cleaning which I’m not totally done with just yet. Interested to see how it sounds once these strings break in, but I’m digging the mahogany so far.
  13. Have you looked at the Highway One Telecasters? No longer made but you can still find them used.
  14. Something is off with your setup if you have really high string tension with 10s on a Jazzmaster. A common complaint about the Jazzmaster is that the break angle at the bridge is too low resulting in low string tension. Some guys put 11s on them to increase the string tension. The other fix is to shim the neck and raise the bridge which increases the break angle of the strings at the bridge. You see that a lot on the older Jazzmasters. Most newer Jazzmasters have the neck pocket cut at a slightly different angle so a shim isn’t needed. You’re experiencing the opposite problem which doesn’t usually happen. How high is the bridge set on yours?
  15. 70’s Norlin era Gibson’s just aren’t as collectible and valuable as earlier vintage. Gibson made some changes to the J45 around 1969 that included square shoulders vs slope and some feel these are also overbraced compared to earlier J45s. More info in link below. https://umgf.com/gibson-j-45-s-from-the-1970-s-t2068.html
  16. Tapp tweeted this a couple hours after Fong put in his CB lulz.
  17. The DR on the left is a 68 that I bought non-functioning a few years ago. AUTF brought it back to life with a cap job. It’s an early silverface with blackface circuit. The one on the right is an early 64 that I rescued in pieces in a trade and restored over the past couple years. For some, blackface era circuitry (63-67) is a sweet spot. Most early silverface circuits can be blackface’d pretty easily by a good amp tech.
  18. Me too.

  21. Pretty sure that’s an Acoustic solid state. Maybe the G60-212.
