  1. Your story checks out. I didn’t realize he played in Denver. I knew Dan Neil did.
  2. Gene Chizik won a championship at Auburn. Why isn’t he on the list?!
  3. I don’t think either is the answer, but I’d put Traylor in the “maybe down the road” category and Kubiak in the “fuck right off” category.
  4. I posted this on the Urban thread, but I guess this is the more appropriate place. I’m probably in the minority that thinks Traylor could be successful. That’s probably based on close friends in Gilmer who were involved in his hire there and who know him well, personally. Not my first choice, but I think he’s a star in the making. He understands how to motivate and control kids. The fact that the Boyd kids graduated from high school was a minor miracle. He’s a high-character, high-accountability dude. He’d recruit well. High school coaches love him and his players love him. More than anything, he expects to win championships. Gilmer, as in many East Texas towns, has a group of boosters that have to be managed. Nothing to the degree of UT, but a microcosm of it. Those boosters can be the coach’s best friend or worst enemy. He managed them well and used them to keep players out of trouble and actually passing their classes. He understands that being head coach is about more than just coaching. Again, I’m not saying he’s our guy, and I know he’d never get an offer. I just like him better than the guy we have now, and we know he’d be cheap if we found ourselves in a bind. I’d prefer him to Franklin or Fleck, without question.

  6. Agreed. Urban came from non-power five. Riley and Stoops were coordinators. Dabo was a freaking WR coach. Saban didn’t do much more at Michigan State than Dan Mullen did at Mississippi State. In fact, the Saban to Bama and Urban to Ohio State thing is pretty rare. Usually the great coaches are discovered organically. Obviously you pursue Urban until you get your “no.” At that point you do a thorough vetting of the best available options, contrary to how we conducted our last two coaching searches.
  7. Amen. I’m not going to melt down regardless of what happens, but I sure as shit am not going to let the ass clown who announced us to the PAC and Tom to LSU, among other idiotic declarations, ruin my night/week. Chip lives over his skis. He should be covering high school football in east Texas. The fact that he still has a career is laughable.
  8. Chip guaranteed we were joining PAC10, remember?
  9. I’m not getting concerned until next Monday.
  10. Hudson Card and a new OL coach might make me take a peek.
  11. Accept it was brief and too the point.
  12. Y’all gotta stop setting your expectations so high. I’m all for hope and optimism, but you always have to prepare for the worst case scenario. Expecting shit to go down today is just asking for heartache. Personally, I think Urban has agreed in principle and we’re going to be very happy by this time next week, but I realize I’m putting a lot of faith in people with no apparent credibility or authority. I’m completely prepared for everything to fall through and for us to return to Macovic-era desolation and apathy. The distilleries will still make bourbon, there will still be good bbq, and I will still live in Texas. I lived through the mid to late 80s and 90s; I’ll live through this.
  13. Shaka with hair looks like a turtle head. But he is better than Tom.
  14. Is there a chance that this BMD wanted to keep a lid on things and gave you some misinformation?
  15. How the hell did Futureman make your list?
  16. Agreed
  17. I missed that.
  18. If he had said, “no,” the Fox crew would’ve done segments on Tom’s likelihood of being fired, like Game Day did. I watched both, and Fox definitely tip-toed around the subject. Game Day was all over it, because it’s clearly a huge story. Herbstreit basically said it would take an Urban Meyer-level coach to win at Texas. I think Herbstreit knows what’s coming.
  19. I don’t take Sark being a Plan B seriously.
  20. The reason I could see things stretching out is that Urban is still trying to put a staff together and OSU is trying to make the playoff. I agree with alphahorn that the deal is probably already done. I think Urban will mail this recruiting class in and raid the transfer portal. He’s getting Sanders regardless of when he announces. That’s the big fish. A lot of the early enrollees aren’t going anywhere. I’m not saying it won’t happen tomorrow. My gut just tells me neither party is in a hurry because Urban is building a staff behind the scenes and we still have one game remaining.
  21. I tend to agree.
  22. Allen (so far) doesn’t lose games he’s supposed to win. Last year, his four losses were MSU, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State and then Tennessee in the bowl game. He plays sound defense. They force tons of turnovers. They were losing to Ohio State by 28 and damn near came back and won. They fight like hell and they play smart. I don’t know if his coaching style would translate to 4 & 5 star kids, but he definitely gets everything out of his 2&3 star kids. I’d probably prefer to see him get another season under his belt, but I’m impressed so far. Campbell loses games he shouldn’t from time to time. That’s a red flag for me.
  23. Bingo.
