That's possible but I would think less likely. All I know is when I researched this on May 29th the information in the post I quoted above is what I found. I posted it here and shared it with a few different people, one of which is my brother who's a statistician for a professional sports team, and no one said anything about it including the covid-19 numbers with pneumonia numbers. I've looked at that chart 5 days a week since June 9 and when it changed last week it triggered in my brain immediately since I was used to seeing the exact wording all those times. The actual data itself didn't change as if they had all of a sudden added the covid-19 in there then on my log I've kept from June 9th onward there would be a 3000 and change jump in one day. That doesn't happen.
If you think about it there's zero reason to include the covid-19 numbers with the pneumonia numbers when the official covid-19 numbers have their own column in the same chart. Whoever compiled the data would have taken an extra step to add in the covid-19 numbers just to force the reader of the chart to take an extra step to subtract them out to get the actual pneumonia numbers.
IMO what's the most likely explanation, given what we already know about trump, republicans, and this administration, is someone noticed how bad of an outlier these pneumonia numbers are looking and changed the heading to make it look like less of a problem. They haphazardly did it without thinking how it makes no sense to present it that way. That seem by far most likely to me.
