  1. What's happening should lay to rest all of the libertarian bullshit as absolute pie in the sky nonsense. Free market cannot regulate itself. Without competent government and properly enforced regulations the corporations will kill and damage as many as necessary to fill their bottom line. I mean didn't we learn this lession with Upton Sinclair over 100 years ago?
  2. The point is it's militant far right white people trying to set up false flag blame on the black lives matter movement. They need to be arrested and sent to prison for a long time to let people know that won't be tolerated. Funny how almost none of these white people who are destroying and looting and setting fires are being charged for serious crimes even though you can see them on video.
  3. I did. I'm now just hoping it doesn't land her or me or both of us in hospital
  4. You're reading way too much into it. She's not showing any signs of clinical depression. I've gone out of my way to host small 2-3 women socialization gatherings once a week for her. Even put my college bartending skills to work making them fancy cocktails. This wasn't a call of despair. Yeah, things suck right now but we're both still working, she's had social contact, and from the little fit she threw yesterday it was stubbornness mixed with social media pressure. The exact scenario I mentioned I believe early in this thread is happening. They're seeing their acquaintances and co-workers going out for a couple of weeks now and not seeing them hospitalized or dying so they're starting to think it's overblown and not dangerous. These aren't old women. They're in their late 20s
  5. Not at all. It could be 100 percent fact. But a lot of white washing of history occurred so it's a definite possibility and accounts of history by the American white establishment shouldn't be taken as fact when it comes to questions of potential racist origins. When was the earliest account of the story? Is there a news article that can be verified to that time period with the story? Or did it come about recently?
  6. I agree 100%, I was just stating the reason why certain segments of our population will be so strongly opposed to changes even in something as simple as a school song.
  7. The problem here is that America is filled with erroneous accounts of history and white washing a lot of history to make it more palatable. The Texas rangers chilling and running off Mexican and black Farmers from their lands to steal their for white people being among such things. A fictional origin story could have been written in order to preserve the tradition once they noticed the winds of change were blowing in a certain direction.
  8. I'm not saying that is the original intent but it can read that way. And when you put in the context of the racism of the time and minstrel shows that's where some people are going to eventually take it.
  9. I think the resistance to it is going to be because people realize the entire country is built on a racism and almost every tradition in America has some sort of racist overtones. So if you just let these little ones go without a fight then before long everything you hold dear will be going as well.
  10. Yeah, the words to that song kind of seem like they're directed towards slaves by the slave masters of Texas who will not let you get away. Do not think you can escape them.
  11. That's the main root of it. That systemic oppression's been going back well over a hundred and fifty years for generation after generation. that kind of sustained persecution and damage to specific communities within the country it's going to cause major problems over that much time. here's the main problem the u.s. is having right now other than being financially insolvent with an idiot president: The entire history of the country is built on extreme racism and oppression of non-whites. I mean from day one. That's going to be a very difficult thing to completely remove and keep any identity of the country. I mean, look at all those slave masters posing on your dollars.
  12. They should replace it with that old town road song. Done by a young gay black guy and an old washed up country white guy. Find a way to throw in a verse by Enrique Iglesias and it can hit all the bases.
  13. So you're in favor of defunding the police and abolishing the war on drugs and lengthy prison sentences for non violent crimes? Because militant police harassment and the war on drugs are a major reason for broken families and broken system of child rearing in minority communities across the US.
  14. Oh we've been doing that for weeks. They're tired of drinking at home and wanted to hit their favorite bars. Unfortunately the friends aren't slutty enough for me to hit a 3/4some. Not even with my British accent. One of them is a hot ass Persian girl, literally the hottest I've seen in person. If I could hall pass it where it wouldn't fuck up my marriage I'd bend over backwards to eat her ass. The other one is the prototypical ugly chick that all groups of hot chicks have, although she's not that bad and after a couple whisky's I'd be all over that too.
  15. No pics but yes on the other two. I love her but she's not the brightest when it comes to things like this. I even tried using the "imagine if this was a terrorist organization killing 1-2k Americans every day and hospitalizing tens of thousands more" imagery to drive the point home but no dice. If it was me by myself I could easily make it a year meditating and writing music. But the women folk around here just dont have discipline
  16. I think I've lost the war. The dam finally broke and the wife couldn't handle being chained by the pandemic any longer. For the first time since early March she went out with her girlfriends to the bar. I kept the beast subdued for as long as possible but finally heard the dreaded "I'd rather die from the virus than live like this without socializing with my girlfriends anymore" Well fellas, pray for me.
  17. Right in line with the positive approval rating for the worst president in history who has somehow managed to bungle America into the 1918 pandemic, great depression, and 1960's civil rights riots/street unrest all simultaneously. 40 percent of Americans are too stupid to sustain a democracy
  18. Jerome Adams is nothing but a trump ass kisser. Of course he said stupid shit like that. He's a fucking tool
  19. This is what I was telling my wife. She's predicably feeling very stir crazy and seeing social media of her friends going out and I don't think I'll be able to convince her of the danger much longer. I tried to explain that there are over 40 million people in the state and this thing is slowly burning through people but since our individual spheres of influence are so miniscule in comparison to the population it's very probable we won't know people who are getting extremely sick and/or dying yet. But it's out there and happening. And people who work directly with the patients are seeing the effects of being the unlucky ones who's genetics/conditions meant they lost the covid Russian roulette. With everything opening and social media making it impossible to fully isolate yourself from society it was going to be virtually impossible to resist social activities long term for people who aren't directly impacted by the virus.
  20. Based on what you've seen outside of necessities like a grocery store where would you set foot in?
  21. I don't see any way it's mostly protest. It just makes sense that millions of people suddenly going into restaurants/bars/other enclosed areas for an hour+ at a time with no masks was going to lead to this. Science knows how viral infections spread. The information was out there. It's mostly contact indoors for extended periods of time. That's happening a whole lot more over the last 4 weeks than it did in April/ very early May.
  22. How much do low income people get in a year in food subsidy, Medicaid, CHIPS, etc? How many years would it take to hit $500 billion? Yeah, fuck republicans. Steal from us all and give to your rich buddies.
  23. Some of my in-laws are some of the most racist people I've met. It's probably an interesting case study in brain washing. I've come very close to asking them why they so vehemently support people who view them as subhuman and want to put them in cages. Just when I'm about to ask I remember I enjoy getting laid so then I change the subject.
