  1. Something changed very quickly and you'd have to think it was good fortune on our part to have reversed course on the timing so quickly.
  2. Best move for him overall, imo. He's got a stacked room, a senior QB, better than average OL and a better OC walking in the door. He'll get more/better offers next offseason if he's looking to bolt.
  3. *If* all the above comes to pass there's little question it's a staff upgrade overall. The issue is and has been maximizing the opportunity and what it says about TH that we clearly aren't.
  4. His resume' at least makes some sense. Land Okam at DL and I'll have some (very) cautious optimism about next year. Hard to imagine we can be worse on D and I'm a fan of the Yurcich hire.
  5. About the only thing that makes any sense. No reason to even interview for the position if you're simply going to turn it down other than to angle on a raise.
  6. No connection with Rutgers I would assume. No, just the Wisconsin angle
  7. Yep. Guessing TH gave Yurcich some latitude to make the call on a couple coaches and this is where we ended up. Not a bad hire, imo, but sure looks like we're having a hard time landing our #1 or even #2 choices.
  8. Other names like E. Jones and T. Carrier resonated more, but I like this move overall. Played WR in the NFL, coached the position for several years and has been with the team for the last year. If he's the guy, so be it. We definitely need to add rainmaking recruiters via the TE and soon-to-be RB coaches. On D it's sounding like Jai Alai is gonna have to be that guy. Carrington gonna continue to earn his money.
  9. At least this dude has actually coached the position w/20 years of experience coaching LBs directly. Also looks like he handled ST at five different stops.
  10. Has any Texas AD ever had control over firing the head coach? If the plug is pulled I don't think it'll be CDC making that decision.
  11. I'm hoping it's just exploring options while angling on a bump in salary. We need some continuity on staff.
  12. At least he's being pursued for a promotion. No clue if this would impact Bijan, but hopefully he'd view it as a positive for Texas/Drayton. Hopefully TH has a contingency plan in place and that position coach along with Yurcich are in Tucson the day the dead period ends. Not that any of these position coach hires would reinforce there's a plan and we're going to act swiftly.
  13. With the dead period set to end on the 17th it would make a ton of sense to get these hires done by the end of the weekend. If we don't there's a major problem.
  14. Let's hope both the new coordinators have a substantial coaching network and are willing to leverage it.
  15. Being reported by Thamel as a position coach as opposed to DC
  16. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Helton's seat is nuclear hot, their current recruiting class in shambles and a declining roster. Herman's seat is hot, no doubt, but not like Helton's and our roster in much better shape. One could easily argue overhauling an offense at two different locations in one off-season would position him much better. Either way, and no insider info here, but all signs would indicate he wasn't the choice here or just isn't motivated by $$.
  17. Harrell signed for $1.2M and we're paying Yurcich $1.7M. Either we completely jacked this to the point we had to overpay Yurcich by a ton, Harrell wasn't the choice in the first place or GH completely marches to his own beat. Given what we eventually paid Yurcich, had we wanted Harrell he would've had to decide it was worth staying in LA for $500K-$1M less (considering the difference in cost of living). Not beyond the realm of possibility, but he'd had to be a different kind of cat to make that decision.
  18. Dead period runs through the 16th. As long as we have the position coaches in place in advance of the 17th we're likely ok. But they do need to be in place in advance with enough time to do their intros/outreach and hit the ground running on the 17th. To me, we need all positions filled by the end of this weekend. If we push into next week with positions unfilled it starts to become a problem.
  19. TFB saying Emmett Jones, Tyrone Carrier and Andre Coleman are the three front runners, in no particular order. All three would make a lot more sense
  20. Eagles has as chance to be superstar in Yurcich's offense. If he isn't I have a sneaking suspicion it's going to be Omeire breaking out as a true freshman.
  21. Not a fan of Washington or Warehime being retained. Go and get the best position coaches out there for once.
  22. Think he definitely sticks at RB with the Yurcich hire, assuming Herman gives him any real autonomy to run the offense, which I think he will. Just don't think RJs passing skills are to the level Yurcich will want and he's already a beast in the making at RB. Having a rotation of Ingram, RJ and Bijan at RB with a pipeline of C. Thompson, JQJ, Card and Milroe at QB we're in really good shape at both positions. And that doesn't factor in Whittington who could stick at RB, move to the slot, etc. This offense has immense potential next year if we can get the play-calling right.
