This is a dumb thing to say considering that A) nobody involved has ever said this, B) automatic qualifiers exist, and C) everyone knew from the very beginning that at least one G5 team would be among them.
Sounds like someone with a Participant ribbon. Good for you.

The biggest lie from CFP is "twelve best" teams.
The truth is, ten of the 15 or 20 highest voted beauties and two participation ribbon winners.
ND was one of the 15 or 20, but not one of the 10.
Too bad. So was Texas.
We coulda played each other in the Biggest Toilet Bowl, but noooooo. I think ND is afraid of how they'd look with a big L, but I'm not too sure we could beat them... but we'll never know.

I, for one, absolutely would welcome Coach O onto our staff, at any position at all.
There is more to a football team than just being a group of solid well-trained mesomorphs: a certain amount of pure crazy is needed for a team to be able to - checks notes - come back from being down four TDs at halftime, or four points with 77 seconds left and no timeouts.
Sometimes all the analysis and strategery in the world isn't enough, and only a serious application of mouth-breathing fury will save the day.
Coach Slingblade, come on in.

At least ND doesn't have to prepare for the Kiffin Express.
The Ole Miss problem was one of my specific gripes. The FSU Precedent is - was - fully applicable here. Instead of focus on the actual result, the committee seems to have ignored the Fast Lane departure, because uhhhh voluntary?
Suppose instead of the Offense Coaches just dropping Ole Miss like a hot potato, they all got on a plane to go to New Orleans on a planning retreat for CFP... and crashed, killing 'em all. Probably (we'll see) even worse for their chances than losing their QB. Poor guys, let's save them the embarrassment of a coachless blowout.

2025 Final Mottto?

Good versus Great is one of the issues we lost. Good teams win most of the games they're expected to win, and even win occasionally some they're expected to lose. Great teams win all the ones expected and most of the games when they're underdogs. We were barely "Good", let alone "Great".
Too many conference mates in the tournament. Hell, it wound up with FIVE teams from the SEC, and that's already one more than most want to see.
I hoped for two things that coulda woulda shoulda put us in - maybe only needed one, but with both, defnitely in. Those were 1) Bama gets blown out and drops out, and 2) Ole Miss gets FSU'ed for losing half their coaching staff. The first one partly fulfilled, but Bama Mulligan reared its ugly head, soooo... bring on the Weasels.
Note to HC: maybe don't finish in 5th or 6th place in conference, next time.

School gets paid, keeps expense reimbursement, splits the rest with SEC. Some (all?) coaches get incentive, maybe. Is there an extra payday for players? If so, do opt-outs get paid or nah?

Dammit, I was looking forward to a BYU-ND bowl game.

Nicely done. Thank you.

Had a couple who got married 1NOV with the groom from GA and the bride from Bama. If dude hits 33 yard FG, they win $1MM and meathead donates $250k to GA related charity. If he misses, they donate $250k to Bama charity.
Missed badly short from 33, but it was lined up. So they move up about halfway to the goal and offer dude $500k if he makes it, with same charity tags.
shanks it into the crowd. LOL.
No one gonna hit a kick with Herbie holding the ball tilted like that... might as well kick him in the knee.

So if BYU and Alabama gets blown out, do we have any chance of getting in?
BYU just needs to lose. Bama gets blown out, we have a shot. Both happen, we're in.
The SEC may also have discussed with CFP committee that it would not object hugely if Ole Miss gets dumped because HC, OC and staff all gone... you know, so the kids wouldn't get embarrased (citing FSU precedent).
Listen close - Fat Lady's warming up in her dressing room, ghastly scales zooming up and down. Get ready...

But the NCAA isn't gonna do that.
NCAA and CFP are different organizations. The problem is the direct relationship between CFP and ND, but it looks like the NCAA doesn't have a say in it - it's conferences and ND (not sure about other independents, if there still are any).

All of college football needs to stop scheduling ND until they fucking join a conference.
Nah... adjust CFP guidelines to exclude Independents.
Problem solved.

Pussy is undefeated, but even Bill in his prime would have punted this bitch to the curb long before it had came to this.
I choose to believe that Bill is aware that Life Its Own Self is visiting upon him a Karma Rebalance of epic proportions, to make up for having Tom Brady create the myth of the indestructable Coach Belichick for him. He is not happy about it, but he understands the futility of fighting against it... and there are certain benefits attached to the process.
Tell Me About Notre Dame

One of my office-mates in grad school was a guy named Claude Something, a Notre Dame graduate. Claude admitted he knew only two things abut Notre Dame football: (1) Notre Dame always had the best team in the country, which was only denied by anti-catholic enviers; (2) Notre Dame players were the only football players who had to take a pay cut when they went Pro.
It seems plausible that some of his family post on Surly Horns.
