It’s like 12 Monkeys up in here.
... and that's an apt description, considering it's not science fiction, but documentary.

He also said they practiced against onside kicks in preparation for the Georgia game. I’ll take actions over words.
You practice receiving onside kicks with the hands team. You put them on the field when you expect onside kick coming. There was no situational need for onside, it was Kirby Smart actually coaching. The hands team was not on the field. The regular receiving team looked like it had never even heard of or seen an onside kick, which wouldn't surprise any of us.

I think I already said, and might've typed, this - but I don't always post what I write, so I'll do it again.
What seems to explain most if not all of the fuckery we're wading through lately is that Del Conte has everything he needs to fire Sarkisian “for cause”, but he's a whole lot more interested in fixing the problems than in skewering Sark.
If Sark can be convinced to make necessary changes in both his personal life and in his coaching, he'll get another year to show up. We can argue all we want about what changes and whether he is both willing and able to do them. Don't care, had MensaTom and Coach Potatohead.
On the other hand, if Sark won't derectify his head, he'll be let go... preferably gracefully, if possible, but there's a definite possibility he won't go quietly, and shit is flung in all directions.
Some of us seem to want to watch the flaming fudge nugget dingdongs arching majestically across the skies, and the sooner the better. But I believe that Del Conte will do his best to keep things calm and professional, and that means “The University of Texas and Coach Sarkisian have mutually-decided to part ways.”
I think this last outcome is best for all concerned, although we may be waiting until post-aggy to see it.

If we had prepared for that play...
I'd bet we did. But preparing to receive an on-side kickoff involves a different set of personnel, the 'hands team'. They're in when the kicking team is in desperation mode... behind and short clock. The regular kickoff receiving team is not gonna be practicing on-side, and aren't going to be looking for it.
UGa likely had at least a couple of ringers on that kickoff group (and for the fake punt/FG groups, too) and an alert ST coach mighta noticed that and called timeout... or maybe an HC who wasn't busy being OC and planning his next playset.
Sarkisian said he expected Smart to run a trick on a kick play, but nobody expects the unexpected, do they?

The extension makes at least some sense from the viewpoint that you're hoping to get things fixed so you demonstrate good PR belief in Coach, and at the same time you know you've got the "for cause" clause covered so there's no real issue with the buyout. Give him the year with Arch and if he gets his life problems under control, it's all good.
The timing is bad for everybody, mainly because of the idiotic idea of signing while the playoffs and bowls are still going on.

These people have no idea that a giant shit cloud is coming…
I mind that time I's about halfway between Andrews and Seminole, just boppin' along, minding my own business. Sky turned red, sounded like half a siren, wall of red dirt slammed into me like a train. Got spun around, off the highway in decent shape, shut her down and commenced to waiting. Probably fifteen minutes of sand-blasting, scoured the shit oughta paint on the right side of the truck. Got down to just blowin' dirt, got back on the road.
I was thinking whatever is going on, home and office, with the Sarkisians, is somewhere in there.

A Niblett away is hilarious phrasing and sadly true.
Niblit Away could probably open for Drunken Cuck - prolly have to wait on 2026 Tour dates to get set.

We had 33 yards rushing after our first drive and Sark managed to coordinate our offense to -10 yards rushing for the rest of the game, very impressive.
Would you say he produced a plethora of poorly picked plays?\

Clearly fake. No aggy would have a picture of the Twelfth Man wearing the number 13.

So... Elko hasn't signed the extension? Yet?
You know if it were you, the extension would remain unsigned at least until the Penn State deal goes down one way or another.

our gameplans are not half baked. they are fully baked. the problem is every party is a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting.
See, that's where you've gone awry. It's not chocolate frosting, it's actually vanilla frosting mixed with an unknown brown substance.

No one. Just root for teams to not win it like osu, uga, aggy, tceh, nd, and bama.
This is pretty close to my position... that is, I probably have eight to root against, a couple to root for, and a couple I couldn't give a fuck about one way or the oher.

They mentioned [expecting trick play from ST] quite a few times before the onside. Sark expected it and still was caught off guard.
I think it's a safe bet that they practiced onside kick reception with the "hands" team and not the "regular" team. The punt return team probably practiced the regular guys being really careful about the punter taking off.
In "gotta get it" moments, that's not really a trick, is it? Fake punt, fake FG, fake kickoff - only a trick if they're unexpected. Prolly gonna be either the fake FG or fake XP, next time we play UGa.

We called what we can execute and we still didn't execute. Geezus Tex you gotta call SOMETHING lol.
English - how do it work? You can execute but you don't... more of an oxymoron than a reason.
Maybe go back to practice versus game? I don't know what the practices are like, but they must be toally without the slightest real game level physicality, because apparently the coaches think they are executable... despite having never seen it work in games all season long.
Yessir, we gotta call something - but that doesn't mean using the plays that work once in every ten tries.
-
Blaming lack of execution by players is weak. Designing, practicing, and calling plays that players can't execute is the problem. If the line can't handle that set of plays, then DON'T FUCKING CALL THOSE PLAYS.
It is coaching failure to practice those plays and not be able to see that your guys can't do it.

Several of the talking heads have made a point of Sark's play calling as being "too cute"... and I think a lot of us agreee with that assessment.
It factors into our losses this season.
We had at least two weeks of the pre-season working on the tOSU game. And lost.
Next we had two weeks to get ready for the Florida game. And lost.
Now we had two weeks to prepare for UGa. And lost.
It seems that if he has too long to work on a game plan, Sark winds up with a playlist with an extra week full of clever cuteness. Then when the opponent kicks us in the nuts, instead of falling for the game plan and running the wrong way, we have no answer.
Maybe we need to pivot into fundamental ass-whipping mode instead of more or different cuteness.

All good on the Last Frontier. 5 by 5. Enjoying Saban's insights, as usual.

All things considered, Sark's biggest problem seems to be that he still chases Coordinator Glory.
Until he realizes that he's pursuing a subjective title (Best OC) and changes to the objectivity of full-spectrum Scoreboard Dominance, we're almost certainly going to continue to see a couple of WTF performances every season.
