  1. Scattershooting... November fatigue is real for teams with depth problems. Heard a few analysts talk about Oregon struggles in their night game @Whisky being predictable due to so much travel and no bye game since September. One commentator thought it was probably helpful for Oregon to be tested in a tight game. ______ Also thought the following info from Kirby was interesting: “Kirby also talked about planning for the Playoff,” Finebaum said. “I mean, this is in the off-season. He essentially said we knew were going to lose a game or two. We just didn’t know to what degree. He was planning for a 16, 17, 18 game schedule, not the predictable 12 game schedule.” ______ An old ballcoach once said that the same team doesn't show up every week in a 12 game season and 1 or 2 challenging regular season games can be helpful before the playoffs. Also, when you play an opponent during your schedule factors into how well your team might play. example #1: Texas plays jawja in a physical home game then travels to Vandy the following week and struggles. 2nd example: Catching the gators in Austin with their 3rd string QB starting. ______ All of the above was to set the table for discussions on how the heck do CFB coaches have to adjust to a 15/16 game season??? I'm glad that Sark has been able to rotate more players during the first 10 games and still currently have only 1 loss. Matchups in the 12 team playoff bracket may be every bit as critical to winning as having the best team. Sometimes it can come down to styles that are a tough matchup. The example I use here is Vandy can beat Bama early in the season because Vandy is not banged up and Bama's defense while decent was not that physical. By the time Vandy played a very physical S.Carolina team with no bye week since Sept they were toast. So which teams will Texas matchup better against in the CFP playoffs if we get there??? Obviously jawja's defense seems like our kryptonite. 😬 Finally, just wondering how much having an easier playoff draw will likely factor into winning this new 12 team plays ??? _______ Possible Seeds #5 PennSt vs #12 BoiseSt then #4 Colorado #6 Georgia vs #11 Indy then #3 Miami #7 OhioSt vs #10 Bama then #2 TEXAS #8 ND vs #9 OleMiss then #1 Oregon
  2. The country’s best defense is in Austin, and Steve Sarkisian likes the sound of that by: Billy Gates Nov 18, 2024 AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Longhorns have, at least from a statistical standpoint, the best defense in big-time college football. A certain sports cliche alludes to what a good defense can mean for a team’s season. Following the Longhorns’ 20-10 win over Arkansas last week, No. 3 Texas lowered its yards allowed per game average to 249 yards per game, the best in FBS and almost two yards better than No. 2 Ohio State. Texas is also the only team in FBS that allows less than four yards per play. Long seen as an offensive-minded coach (he was a terrific quarterback in his day, after all), Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian can’t stop smiling when someone asks him about his defense. It was an Achilles heel for his team in the first two years at the 40 Acres, and now it’s perhaps its biggest strength. “When you’re trying to play great defensive football, it’s as much of a mindset as it is schematically. I don’t think our guys believe that anyone can move the ball on them, or can score on them,” he said. “That’s a beautiful thing to watch. Even in practice, we’re in a walkthrough and have the mindset of fitting a run the right way and holding each other accountable. Those are the little things I enjoy seeing as a head coach.” From Sarkisian’s perspective, it has been a group effort. A good blend of continuity in the coaching staff, recent additions and player buy-in have all contributed. Defensive lineman Alfred Collins has been playing out of his mind that past few weeks and was named the Southeastern Conference defensive lineman of the week after his performance against the Razorbacks, and defensive back Jahdae Barron continues his path to a potential Jim Thorpe Award finalist honor as the SEC’s co-defensive player of the week. With Blake Gideon, Terry Joseph and Pete Kwiatkowski around from his original staff, and the hires of Kenny Baker and Johnny Nansen this past season, the brain trust for an elite defense is in place. Texas is tied for No. 7 in FBS with 15 interceptions and allows the fewest passing yards per game in the entire country. Sarkisian said he’s built a connection with the defense, and in some respects, he has a better rapport with them than the offense because he makes it a point to be with them more often.

  4. Thanks for posting video... damn Sark needs to have Ewers watch his good throws/plays from the past over and over and over again. Then hopefully...
  5. Reassigned to facilities management -- You sure you want to do that FAU???
  6. PK plus all of the above maybe??? Plus more talent and players with 2 to 3 years in the system??
  7. Not sure who deserves all the defensive credit this year -- but no doubt it's nice to see a good defense with more sacks and creating more turnovers!!! 🤘
  8. If we don't win SEC, hopefully still a home game in the cfp playoffs... 🤘
  9. Nice plug for PK and his staff 🤘

  12. Go Army... Beat notre dame !!!
  13. Yeah, I sure hope Texas isn't forced to play arky every year -- for me arky=tech

  15. Yep... FAU: The Owls are firing head coach Tom Herman, sources tell 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, Richard Johnson and Chris Hummer. The Owls are 2-6 in 2024 and are 6-14 overall in Herman's tenure. Herman is the former head coach at Texas and Houston.
