It's Kane Wommack vs. Diego Pavia in Tuscaloosa. There's a formula out to beat Kalen DeBoer's Alabama and Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia knows it by heart, because he invented it. In Vandy's 40-35 upset of then-No. 1 Alabama last season, Pavia totaled 40 combined rushes and passes, while Alabama ran 45 plays... total. In their 24-3 win over the Tide last November, Oklahoma called just 11 pass plays to 25 runs for Jackson Arnold. In their 31-17 win over the Tide to open this season, Tommy Castellanos completed just nine passes for 152 yards while carrying the ball 16 times. Alabama's defenses have consistently struggled to contain the quarterback run game dating back to the Nick Saban era, and that has not changed when the defense changed hands to Wommack. They're often confused and a step slow to react, and also high on their own supply. Last year's Vandy loss came the week after the Georgia win (sound familiar?), and Oklahoma two weeks after the Tide beat LSU by nearly 30 points in Baton Rouge. The Michigan and Florida State losses came after long layoffs. So, there's a lot to like here if you're No. 16 Vanderbilt (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC). And for as dangerous as Vanderbilt is in the run game, the pass game has added a new element to punish wandering eyes. Last year, the 'Dores completed 30 passes of 20-plus yards across 13 games; they're already at 20 through five contests this year. The problem for Vandy, however, is that if we're aware of all this, No. 10 Alabama is, too. The Commodores are not going to sneak into Bryant-Denny Stadium undetected and disrespected. And for all the struggles DeBoer has had, they've all come away from home. He's 9-0 at home. If Alabama jumps out early, it's tough to see Vanderbilt overcoming event a modest deficit on the road. But let's say Vandy's up 14-7 midway through the second quarter, goes on a 7-minute drive to set up a field goal with a minute and a half left before halftime, and Vandy gets the ball to open the second half. Alabama is going to feel like it's drowning on dry land. The stakes for Vanderbilt. Officially, this is the biggest game since Oct. 4, 2008, when GameDay came to Nashville for No. 13 Auburn at No. 19 Vanderbilt, a game the 'Dores won and moved up to No. 13 before dropping their next four on their way to a 7-6 finish. Vanderbilt also enjoyed back-to-back 9-win seasons under James Franklin, ending both 2012 and '13 in the AP Top 25. So it's not as if you have to go back to ancient times to find successful Commodore squads. But, c'mon. A win here likely vaults Vanderbilt into the AP top-10 for the first time since 1947 and fully moves Clark Lea's team into the upper echelon of the conference. They are by no means home free with a win here -- after a bye, Vandy gets LSU, Missouri and Texas in succession -- but if you can beat Alabama at Alabama, who can't you beat?

After win vs jawja, Bama might have had a letdown performance until dumbass pavia pops off... Also in above article... At least part of Pavia's confidence in Vandy's chances against Bama comes from the fact that former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel now has his ear. Manziel has become friendly with Pavia since moving to Nashville, and he will be in attendance as Pavia tries to double up on wins over Alabama, exceeding Manziel's famous road upset of the Crimson Tide as quarterback for Texas A&M. "I beat [Alabama] once. Diego's got a chance to beat them twice," Manziel told On3. "That's the kind of s--t they build statues for." -

Elko's got jokes... Texas A&M is currently one of the most penalized teams in college football, averaging close to ten per game. In their four games this season, they've committed 38 penalties for just over 77 yards per game. Now in his fourth season as a head coach (two at Duke and now in year two at A&M), plus six stops as a defensive coordinator, Elko shared he's no stranger to creative strategies to fixing penalties issues. With players getting NIL deals and revenue sharing opportunities now, he and the Aggies staff are rolling out a unique approach that had traditionally been reserved for professional sports. "Alright, so I'll let you guys in on something," Elko started his response off when asked about their approach to limit penalties. "I have tried all kinds of things. So, today, what we started was the Texas A&M Football Coaches Cabo Fund. So what is going to happen now is every time one of our players gets a penalty, they are going to contribute to the Coaches Cabo Fund." "So we will see if that works," he added with a grin, as chuckles from the media could be heard in the background.

OUCH... 🙄 Iowa State loses pair of starting CBs for season 😬 Iowa State CBs Jontez Williams, Jeremiah Cooper out for season Associated Press Oct 1, 2025 AMES, Iowa -- No. 14 Iowa State's secondary will be without longtime starters Jontez Williams and Jeremiah Cooper for the rest of the season because of knee injuries. Coach Matt Campbell announced Tuesday that Williams damaged the ACL in his right knee late in the Cyclones' 39-14 win over Arizona on Saturday. Cooper tore his ACL in practice last week. The two have combined for 55 starts. Williams, an Associated Press All-Big 12 second-team pick in 2024, had one interception and two pass breakups this season. He was hurt with three minutes left against Arizona as he dove in an attempt to knock a ball away from a receiver. "So that's a situation that really stinks for the kid," Campbell said. "But man, just how he's handled it has been uber impressive. And a great human. He'll be back ready to rock and roll next year." Cooper has made 36 starts since 2022 and was an AP All-Big 12 first-team pick at safety in 2023. He switched to cornerback full time this season and had an interception and three pass breakups through four games. Tre Bell, a transfer from Lindenwood, made his first start for the Cyclones in Cooper's place against Arizona. Quentin Taylor Jr., who played 26 snaps against Arizona, would be in line to make his first start when the Cyclones (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) visit Cincinnati (3-1, 1-0) on Saturday.

This thread just keeps on showing what a joke 2025 US Team was. Unless the US roster significantly changes/improves for 2027, and more serious leadership gets involved, I expect US Ryder Cup fan interest will drop significantly. I watched all 3 days this year and love Ryder Cup... but right now just not sure how much time I will commit to watching Ryder Cup in 2027.

No. 9/7 Football’s Taaffe selected to Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year watch list The senior defensive back is also a semifinalist for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. By: Grace Tafolla 09.30.2025 | Football AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9/7 Texas Football senior defensive back Michael Taaffe was named to the watch list for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year on Tuesday. The award, presented by Albertsons and Tom Thumb, is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership, both on and off the field. Last season, former UT center Jake Majors was selected to the watch list. Former Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was named the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year in 2021. Taaffe, a fifth-year senior, has played in 47 career games with 30 starts and has also been named to the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, earning semifinalist status for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. Taaffe has been exceptional in his work in the community, most notably working with Texas Against Fentanyl, an organization that raises awareness and provides resources and advocacy for prevention and education about fentanyl. In addition, he has partnered with Crime Stoppers of Houston's Million for Million Campaign that raises awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. Taaffe has also recorded and promoted a PSA for SoberRides.org from the Texas Department of Transportation, along with participating in numerous other service activities and youth speaking events. A preseason First-Team All-SEC honoree, Taaffe was placed on preseason watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Jim Thorpe Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy. He returns to the UT defense after garnering second-team All-America recognition from the Associated Press in 2024. An Austin, Texas, native and former walk-on, Taaffe shares the team lead in tackles with Liona Lefau after racking up 25 total through four games. The defensive back compiled nine tackles (two solo) in the season opener at No. 3/2 Ohio State (Aug. 30) before turning in an eight-tackle (seven solo) performance in Texas' home opener vs. San Jose State (Sept. 6). He tallied six tackles (four solo) against UTEP (Sept. 13) and recorded two tackles (one solo) vs. Sam Houston (Sept. 20). Taaffe started all 16 games in 2024, ranking second on the team in total tackles (78), interceptions (2) and pass break-ups (10). He was the only Longhorn to record an interception and a forced fumble in the same game last season after doing so in Texas' win at No. 25/25 Vanderbilt on Oct. 26, earning the Burlsworth's Trophy National Player of the Week and the SEC's Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Taaffe forced two turnovers to go along with six tackles and a pass break-up against the Commodores. In the CFP Quarterfinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl vs. Arizona State, Taaffe logged a career-high 10 tackles (six solo) and two pass break-ups to help send Texas to its second-consecutive CFP semifinal. Twenty semifinalists will be selected by a by a subset of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Selection Committee and announced on Oct. 14. Three finalists will then be named for the award on Dec. 15. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on April 16, 2026. The winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year will also receive a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school's athletic scholarship fund. The contribution will be made by Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation, the official charity of Jason and his wife Michelle. The SCORE Foundation, founded in 2007, has positively impacted tens of thousands of children and families in Texas and Tennessee over the last 16 years. The foundation operates its nationally-recognized SCOREkeepers program, which places trained male mentors on staff to work with children at family violence shelters, at nine shelters in the two states. Up next, Taaffe and the Longhorns hit the road to Gainesville, Fla., for their SEC opener against the Florida Gators at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The game will broadcast on ESPN with Bob Wischusen, Louis Riddick and Kris Budden on the call.

Might want to bet under, hope Texas takes right cleats for rain and our offense plays well... need a good start, limit penalties, make more 1st downs, protect the ball, control field position, and take the points when necessary... Field likely to be wet, and might rain during game in Gainesville

Hope Sark is on Flood's ass to get this OL playing better... 🙄 geez these bad grades include reps against terrible competition -
Saw a discussion that the folks running President's Cup for USA don't work with group that runs USA Ryder Cup. No cohesion, no consistency, no effort to improve USA Ryder Cup teams by the President's Cup folks. Euros handle non-Ryder Cup year prep much better than US does. So Euros are prepared for Ryder Cup like Saban teams, while USA is prepared like John Blake teams... 😬
-
US Team putted like shit... not sure what numbers show, but sure seemed like Euros also did a better job on approach shots too.
