Latest video from Dan Lanning and Oregon is the ultimate flex If there was a postgame video Hall of Fame, the creative folks in Eugene deserve to be in it for this one. Doug Samuels 4 hours ago The best coaches find creative ways to send messages to their team, and my goodness did Dan Lanning find a way to do just that before this past weekend's matchup with Michigan. Lanning utilized a clip from the epic film Gladiator to send a motivational message to his guys before they took on the defending national champs in The Big House. Oregon showed up in Ann Arbor and took care of business come Saturday, and with control of the game late, the clip shows Lanning on the headset where he calls a timeout to remind them about his message earlier in the week about the moment the stands start to empty out. During that timeout, Lanning makes sure his guys take a look around to see the stands emptying out while reciting the movie's most infamous line - "Are you not entertained?" This one is epic. Put this one in the college football video Hall of Fame folks.

Which offense will likely be the tougher matchup for Texas defense... arky or aggy?
-
Not to sound aggy, but Texas hasn't played many good offensive teams so far, which means stats don't necessarily tell the whole story. I'm happy with our results so far, but hope our defense keeps improving. We are pretty good, but not necessarily dominant.

Interesting... Cole Leinart, the son of former Southern California quarterback Matt Leinart, announced his commitment to SMU on Wednesday via social media. Cole Leinart is a three-star quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. He holds offers from Colorado, UNLV, Pittsburgh and Georgia State, according to the recruiting website. He's also the No. 81 quarterback and No. 158 player in California, although he's not ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings

Good luck to Johntay, he's young. A fresh start with a different team/offense might really help him. Interesting...

Handwriting was kinda on the wall when Sark brought in 3 WRs in the portal last spring. With more depth of talent on the roster, folks not getting reps will continue to portal -- it's just way CFB is nowadays.

Interesting title... Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook II is no longer with the program, according to 247Sports. Cook, who took snaps in each of the Longhorns' first six games, has not played since an Oct. 12 win against Oklahoma. He's played a combined 11 snaps since Week 5. 247Sports notes that Cook has been battling a toe injury this season. Cook initially wanted to make it through the rest of the season, but Texas and Cook made the decision to mutually part ways. Cook has eight catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns on the year. A majority of that work came in blowout wins against Colorado State and UTSA, where he totaled six receptions for 91 yards, and he hauled in both of his scores against the Roadrunners. Cook, the No. 38 prospect nationally and No. 7 wide receiver in the Class of 2023, also had 136 yards as a true freshman. He was expected to feature heavily in Texas' 2024 wide receiver rotation given all the Longhorns lost to the NFL Draft, but Texas has leaned more on sophomore DeAndre Moore Jr. and five-star true freshman Ryan Wingo behind a pair of experienced transfer additions in Isaiah Bond (Alabama) and Matthew Golden (Houston). In fact, six players, including running back Jaydon Blue, have more yards receiving than Cook this season, and he's also ninth on the team in receptions. Texas also has plenty of wide receiver talent headed towards Austin, assuming its class holds during December's early signing period. The Longhorns currently have three top-20 wide receivers committed in their 2025 recruiting class, including five-star prospect Kaliq Lockett and Jacksonville, Florida, product Jaime Ffrench, the No. 8 wide receiver. In addition to Wingo, Texas also signed four-star wide receiver Aaron Butler in 2024.

Not sure when Roster of 105 may go into effect... "SEC coach says expectation is rosters remain at 85 scholarship players in 2025" https://footballscoop.com/news/sec-coach-says-expectation-is-rosters-remain-at-85-scholarship-players-in-2025 (Old article on roster changes in link below) While college football parameters have shifted to allow schools, as part of the ongoing House-NCAA settlement and expected revenue-sharing distribution to expand from 85 scholarships to a fully funded 105-man squad Freeze said it has been indicated that the model has not advanced to that point. -

Baby Rhino's comin' Sark: "I think Jerrick Gibson showed us a lot last week." Gibson has seen his workload decrease in recent weeks. Following the preseason injuries sustained by running backs CJ Baxter and Christian Clark, Gibson had to step up when Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner suffered minor injuries early in the season. With transfer Velton Gardner not playing since the UTSA game, there was a stretch of the non-conference schedule during which Gibson was the only truly healthy scholarship running back. The Florida product took advantage against the Roadrunners, leading the team with 13 carries for 75 yards. For the year, Gibson has 48 carries for 227 yards and three touchdowns. But as Blue and Wisner returned to the rotation, the coaching staff opted to reduce Gibsonβs carries in an effort to keep him healthy, so heβs only received six carries in SEC play. Against Vanderbilt, Gibson received just one snap, but given the nature of the running back position, Texas may need the 5β10, 205-pounder again down the stretch. We've all wondered why Gibson hasn't been on the field more of late, and I guess this does make a lot of sense. When you only have two RBs, each of which has dealt with injuries this season, you sure as hell better the limit the miles on RB3.

Texas RB Velton Gardner out for season with eye injury Gardner hasnβt played since carrying the ball five times against UTSA. By: Wescott Eberts Nov 6th, 2024 A third Texas Longhorns running back is officially out for the season after head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed during the SEC weekly teleconference that Kansas Jayhawks and SMU Mustangs transfer fifth-year senior Velton Gardner suffered a football-related eye injury.

Coming off a bye week, the Texas Longhorns' offense has a lot of things to work on, and arguably the most important one is getting the ground game up and running once again. Over the past two games, the Longhorns have had their two worst rushing performances of the season back-to-back. In their 30-15 loss to Georgia, they ran for just 29 net yards on 27 attempts (1.1 yards per attempt), though that was mostly due to seven sacks on quarterback Quinn Ewers. Then in their 27-24 win over Vanderbilt, they rushed for 104 yards on 34 attempts (3.1 yards per attempt), which isn't as bad, but certainly not good. Understandably, the Longhorns know they need to do a better job on the ground going forward. βIβll say, you know, weβre running outside zone pretty good right now. The other run schemes are not working like we want to,β running back Jaydon Blue said. βA lot of that goes with us at the running back position, we have to be a lot better. We have to help Quinn out so that teams know that weβre just not throwing the ball. βWhen we run the ball efficiently, Quinn could sit back there, you know, and dial βem up on defense. I think its just all with us being efficient in the run game.β That said, Texas knows that leaning too far in one direction usually ends poorly. While the Longhorns would love to get the ground game going, balance is what they're looking for above all. "I don't ever want to feel like we just need to force feed the run game, because that might be detrimental to us as a team when we're pretty effective throwing the ball too," head coach Steve Sarkisian said. "We're just continuing to strive for that balance. But again, we got a ton of confidence in all parties involved that we can be a very good run team the second half of the season." Luckily, this week's game is a perfect opportunity to get the run game back on track against a Florida team that allows 162 rushing yards per game, second-most in the SEC. When kickoff rolls around at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, expect the Longhorns to ground and pound.
