  1. It's not over yet. McCartney, Nesmith, Dolenz and Starr. New group, the Beakees.
  2. Yeah, you'd have to go to Walgreen's and see the chick demanding to speak to the manager to find someone that hot.
  3. Did you hear about the man with the five penises? His pants fit like a glove.
  4. Any deal to get them to stay should require Mark Davis to get a different haircut.
  5. Big challenge in figuring out Texas for this year is the number of one score games from last year, against both good and bad teams. There were seven wins by a score or less and three losses by a score or less. So, if we figure all those games went down to the final possession, it's a possible record of anywhere from 13-1 to 4-10, depending on a couple of bounces in each game. Good sign is the Horns have gotten more physical, and physicality travels well. Herman may make some calls I wouldn't make, but I usually understand the logic. There are far fewer WTF moments than there were under Strong. Ehlinger is looking good, and there are only a few returning strong quarterbacks. Thinking Brewer and Purdy are solid. Anyone else? Four new coaches, but the Horns were 3-1 against the teams that replaced coaches. I THINK the Horns turned the corner. Weird note: Herman has been at UT for two years. There are now only three Big 12 coaches that have been in the league longer than him; Patterson, Campbell and Gundy.
  6. Yes. It should be on the list not only for the songs but for the goofing on the songs. "Lawrence...Lawrence of Arabia....he's an English guy..."
  7. Random neural firings: Crazy how one game changes perception. Prior to the Clemson game, a LOT of people were saying this Alabama team was the best ever, maybe in the history of college football. Now, a lot of people are questioning Saban's methodology and speculating on his retirement. It's a little too early to declare the Tide as a dead, over the hill program. Anyone who has a successful career going at a P5 that has a legit shot to make the playoffs with an undefeated season would be insane to take the Bama job after Saban leaves. Saban had to win multiple titles before people quit wanting to dig up Bear Bryant's corpse and prop him up on the sidelines. They'll do the same thing with whoever replaces Saban. Saban's big strength is that since he's gotten the program rolling, he has the ability to keep four and five star athlete egos in check, at least on the field. If a coach is used to dealing with three star athletes, the four and five stars are a whole different animal. Think Ed Oliver and Major Applewhite. A three star thinks he's lucky to be with a program. A five star thinks the program is lucky to have him.
  8. This. The first time is like going down a water slide. The second time is jumping off the high board. Or maybe like a video game where you saved at a certain spot and picked up there.
  9. Yeah, but it was a good novel. Would read again. Two things that struck me while reading it are that first, I was embarrassed to think people knew I was stopping drinking, but wasn't embarrassed when staggering around doing stupid things cause I was drunk. The second thing is that I spent a lot of time thinking other people were paying that much attention to my life. It's a weird thing that's hard to explain, but my ego had me thinking other people were tuning in for the next episode of "what's RK doing today?" when most people don't pay attention at all if I'm not doing something that directly affects their lives.
  10. How about this? Pam wakes up and hears someone in the shower. She walks in and sees a hazy figure reach out of the shower and grab a towel. It's Luke. She starts crying and says, "But you were dead." He tells her it was a dream. None of it happened. There's no Rey, no Porgs and no Ewoks. And Kylo didn't kill Han, he stabbed Rian Johnson.
  11. CM=Captain Marvel IM1=Iron Man 1 GOTG1=Guardians of the Galaxy 1 T1, T2, TIH=Thor 1, Thor 2, and (probably) Thor-Hulk YMMV, SIAP, ROFLOLPMFITA, and all that.
  12. Kaepernick's starting record last four years: 2013 12-4 2014 8-8 2015 2-6 2016 1-10 He had early success because he was a good running QB, and was okay at hitting the first read. Harbaugh took advantage of that. When Harbaugh left, his success went down every year, as teams figured him out: cover the first read and contain him on the scramble. Nothing in the press happens organically. ESPN decided to push the protests, and started doing a weekly "who's kneeling for the anthem" segment. The protests blew up in their face, and NFL ratings dropped. Some of the drop was from over saturation and that third tier crappy games were getting televised nationwide, but there was a legitimate fan backlash against the protests. Kaepernick's numbers had gone down every year, and no one wanted to sign him as a starter. The problem with having a guy who doesn't fit the mold as a backup is you want your backup to come in and execute a game plan. You don't fit your offense to what a backup QB can do. Vince Young and Tim Tebow both had the same problem trying to catch on with another team after getting released by their first teams, even though Tebow had a winning record his only year as a starter, and Young's record was .500 in his last year that he started eight games. Kaepernick had the additional problem that he was famous as a celebrity, not because of what he'd done on the field. Without the anthem protests, he's about as relevant as Shaun King, who quarterbacked Tampa Bay to an NFC championship game and lost. Was Kaepernick shut out over collusion? I dunno. I do know that if I was running a franchise and needed a backup quarterback, I wouldn't look at him, because he would immediately become a distraction from winning games.
  13. Looks like better attendance than a lot of bowl games. Watching on skycam. Would be cool if it had crowd noise and stadium announcer, but I prefer silence to the on air broadcasters. I bet that skycam operator played a lot of Xbox growing up. Dude has skills.
  14. Tis but a pale reflection of the reality. Sensitivity training video now.
  15. You can safely ignore this post. It's me rambling, trying to stay awake during a three hour session. At least the Minnow had Ginger and Mary Anne. Oh God. VP coming around rapping on tables, trying to drum up enthusiasm. Only about half as many people here for second three hours, so, harder to hide, but easier to get a chair where no one can get behind me and see I'm surfing. Have a throw down word processing file I can pull up if necessary. "We're going to have an important conversation." translation: "Shut up and listen." OMG, this is worse than the part about laws. Core values, rules of the road, people, inclusiveness, communication, excellence and integrity. Leadership team hasn't done good job of communicating, so they're going to annoy the shit out of us by having more meetings. HEY! We've got a poster! Here's a poster with generic clip art of laughing people having more fun than you ever have and buzz words. We're all in this together. Buzzword bingo. We can't do this by ourselves. It's a team effort. Courageous conversations. Just hit diverse on the buzzword bingo. That should be a free space. Sensitivity training video coming up. VP is wearing a bow tie. Personal note: only wear a bow tie with a tuxedo. We'll be open and courageous in our communication. Pretty sure they don't want to know what I really think. Does this post count as paying attention? Is cynicism a core value? If I'm making fun of the presentation while it's going on, I'm still paying attention. Jeez: We're going to walk the talk. I think he meant walk the walk. This bubbled up from us. We can all pat ourselves on the back. We need to celebrate the good stuff we do. Weird, I have a great attitude towards my job until they drag me to one of these fake "let's celebrate ourselves" meetings. We're doing great things, and we're going to do more great things. We're getting everyone on a level playing field. Oooooohhhh, powerpoint with charts. Trying to put a positive spin on bad numbers. OK, confession, they finally have some decent info. Relevant to our jobs. ten minutes of good info in four hours is above their average. 45 minutes in: Presenters keep asking if there are questions. NO! We want out! Settled into a low buzz of tedium and glazed eyes now. Dammit. I was stretching when presenter asked for questions. Hopeful look at me, I shake my head no. No one turns around to see what fool thought about asking a question. These meetings wouldn't bug me as much if I didn't know how they worked. "Listening sessions" aren't about finding out what they should do. If you go to a listening session, they've already decided what to do. They're determining who will fall in line and who they'll have to kill off.Search for "Mao let a hundred flowers blossom." Pro tip: don't invite a guy who used to be in charge of doing these things come to one as an attendee. Breaking now. Another hour and a half to glory.
  16. Don't know if it's trivial, but I'm on lunch break and have SIX HOURS of mandatory job training going on now. I've worked here for twenty years, and have seen all these presentations dozens of times. I am SO SICK of these meetings, particularly when I know they're lying about how they actually handle things.
  17. Yeah, I like Leach and I really like bacon, but there's a thing on the internet to either deify or demonize things. It's like people have all this emotion and are looking for something to be emotional about.
  18. My bad. You're right. Shoulda known a guy who knows who Icky Twerp was would have the old TV trivia down.
  19. I was thinking the caption was, "Don't worry, Bea. Opie ain't gonna kill any more birds with a slingshot.
  20. Check out "A Face in the Crowd." It was after No Time for Sergeants and before the Andy Griffith Show. He plays a degenerate guitar picker named Lonesome Rhodes, who puts on a folksy front but is a dark con man. He's the lead character, and it was an important film for getting him the acting reputation for later roles.
