  1. I'm just guessing that the NBA isn't dying to find a reason to suspend one of their most popular players for 50 games. I think we all can safely assume that Ja packed on team premises, but unless there is a Gilbert Arenas situation, I assume nothing more will come of this.
  2. It sucks that JJ took the money to whore himself out on ESPN. He and Zach Lowe should both be at the Ringer where there is some semblance of educated basketball conversation across multiple podcasts.
  3. Well our starting defensive line had four future NFL players (assuming Coburn plays in the NFL). We also had a very capable offensive line that included Sam Cosmi (future second round pick), the number one grad transfer offensive lineman (if memory serves), and a multi-year returning starter at center who was better than our current center. Of course they were coached by an imbecile, so that didn't help.
  4. I mean, in 2019 we were returning a veteran team after a 10 win season that included a Big 12 championship game loss and a Sugar Bowl beat down of Georgia, and two straight top 3 recruiting classes. Of course those veterans and their coach shit the bed and we spiraled back down to mediocrity, but there was much more logic for optimism than now.
  5. Yeah, Doncic can be annoying, but Booker can’t carry his jock strap.
  6. I know I’m getting old, because Iverson and Randy Moss were two of my favorite athletes as a kid, and now I’m like “this Ja Morant character seems like trouble”.
  7. The unfortunately numerous Celtics fans in my life use the words “intentional sabotage”. I wouldn’t believe that to be true with almost any professional athlete except for Kyrie. Speaking of the Celts, horrible loss for them at home against Brooklyn last night after being up by more than 20. You hate to see it
  8. His first two years in the league he shot 27% and 22%. His career average is 30%, so he did improve. Whether he reached his maximum potential in that area or failed to sufficiently practice isn’t something one can glean solely from a stat sheet. If you are suggesting you have some inside information here, go ahead and regale us with your performance enhancing tales. Kyrie doesn’t have a professional bone in his body. I guess you are right that unlike James Harden he usually quits on his team by demanding a trade or not showing up to the gym in the first place, although he did quit on the Celtics on the court in the final Bucks series. Luka would be best served by learning nothing from Kyrie Irving.
  9. I don't even know what you're arguing for or against at this point. Frankly I don't think you do either. The position that a lack of practice is the reason any given player isn’t an improved shooter is overly simplistic and is in many cases entirely false. Not in every case of course, but in many. Shooting efficiency is a skill, and at some point practice can’t overcome a lack of skill. But I believe you also said in another thread that Kyrie “brings a professional attitude every night”, so the above is probably not galaxy brain enough for you.
  10. Correct practice yields results. If you're practicing and not improving you are either lying, doing it wrong, or not doing it enough. Well someone better tell Steph Curry to get back in the fucking gym, because he misses 6 out of every 10 3 pt shots he takes. Jfc these are Reddit-level takes.
  11. Giannis‘s work ethic is notorious, yet his free throw percentage the last 4 seasons is below his career average. Your opinion is that he isn’t working hard enough? These are ignorant takes supported by nothing but conjecture. They may or may not be true, but we don’t know the answer by looking at basketball reference.
  12. Dwayne Wade had a 29% career 3 point percentage. Do you think he wasn’t a hard worker? Allen Iverson around 30%. Plenty of other of other examples, often with Uber-athletic drive to the basket guys. Ja Morant is only at 32%. Guys have different skills sets in the NBA.
  13. Yeah, the Westbrook shit is becoming a dog pile and it’s going too far in the other direction (somewhat his fault for the chip on the shoulder he’s always carried). Should he have been an MVP? Of course not. But he doesn’t even remotely belong in the same sentence, paragraph or chapter as Ben fucking Simmons. Westbrook was a talented but frustrating and flawed player who busted his ass, and he’s now way past his prime and his warts are even more glaring.
  14. There is zero fucking chance the SEC turns down the tv ratings of at least the first few Texas and aggy games. Ross Bjork can say whatever he wants publicly or privately, and Greg Sankey will continue to give exactly zero shits if adopting Bjork’s opinion would cost the SEC a single penny. But the reality is that the aggy game wasn’t a national draw in the old days, and if it reverts to that in the future the SEC will make whatever changes they deem appropriate to maximize monetization. There is nothing “permanent” about this schedule, same as it ever was in college football.
  15. I finally watched women talking last night. Jesse Buckley could read me the phone book and I’d be in. I’ll never watch the movie again, but terrific acting across the board for an hour forty five is good with me.
  16. I guess Nick is angling for MSU over LSU. I’d selfishly like to see Alabama LSU every year, but what Bama wants Bama gets.
  17. Yep, Phoenix will be scary good. Poor Denver, if the season ended today, their second round opponent would either be the suped up Suns or the defending champs. Congrats on the 1 seed!
  18. When Curry went out on February 4th, the Warriors were in 8th place. He’s missed 20 games. During that time Andrew Wiggins missed 5 games and Draymond missed 2 games. The Warriors are now in 5th place. The West is really weird.
  19. A little veal braciole pan seared and braised in diavola sauce.
  20. Def easy if you are waking up in Hiroshima. It just seemed like a lot of logistics to me if you are starting and ending the day in Kyoto. But some people are great at squeezing in everything. I aspire to be one of those people, but alas. And no problem. In 2014 you and a few others were a huge help to me on the old site in planning a month long bar trip in Europe, which at the time was my first time out of North America. Safe travels
  21. Oh I get it; a few years ago we were supposed to spend 6 days in Kyoto after a week in Tokyo. After 3 or 4 days (including 1 in Osaka and Nara), we hopped on the train back to Tokyo to finish the trip. Adding on Hiroshima would be pretty easy as you suggest. Adding on Miyajima would require a bit more planning. Edit to add: I’m sure you have all your big reservations (if any) planned for Tokyo, so below are some walk in noodle/other places I can recommend (as of like 5 years ago, so COVID closures may apply). Tatsunoya Ramen - amazing smokey garlic tsukemen. My first meal off the flight extremely jet lagged. Order with vending machine. Shin Udon in Shinjuku Afuri ramen - yuzu based ramen. They have a few locations, all in trendy locations. Fu-unji ramen - long lines but fast and terrific Nagi Ramen - in Golden Gai. Anchovy (or sardine?) based broth Butagumi - marbled pork katsu. Nodaiwa in Ginza for unagi Tempura Tenfusa if you want eel tempura. Jazz Blues Soul Bar was a dope record bar we went too. Highly recommend doing a record bar if you can. This one (maybe all) will have plenty of tourists.
  22. You have three full days in Kyoto excluding travel, or you are traveling on some of those days? I ask because Hiroshima (and especially Miyajima) is a trek of a day trip. Certainly doable if you are committed, just depends on how much you want want to do in Kyoto. Shit is really spread out, so like Arashiyama is almost a full day (but can be paired with golden temple early am), fushi inari takes up a bunch of time, etc. Tokyo is so fucking awesome, I’m jealous.
  23. Re watched The Strangers from 2008. Young Liv Tyler could get it.
