  1. Pop is a great coach, obviously. One of the best of all time. The worst/funniest thing about Pop was his holier than thou response on tanking last spring. "It’s just not who we are. It’s not who I am. I can’t operate like that." Bitch your entire hall of fame career was set up by tanking in 96-97, and now he's at it again. Personally I think it's totally justifiable to tank once every three decades in hopes of snagging a generational talent, but at least have some self-awareness.
  2. The best thing about EEAAO, by far, was Michelle Yeoh's acting. She was phenomenal, and I had no real problem with her winning over Blanchette even though Tar was my second favorite movie of the year. The mother/daughter and husband/wife storylines at the core of the movie also worked relatively well. The Wong Kar Wai homages were enough to put the movie in my personal top 25 for 2022. But, for me, the non-stop omg LULZ humor got really, really tiresome and unfunny, and I was very ready for the movie to end. It's not a difficult movie "to get". It's just not everyone's cup of tea, and that's ok. Genre movies can be like that. But also fuck the knuckle draggers in this thread who just can't help but get themselves worked up over anything of color receiving adulation (OMG I can't even open my algorithmically-curated Facebook feed without race being thrown in my face by woke Hollywood argghhh!!)
  3. I had been itching to try a salt-baked branzino after having it presented table side in St Barts a few years ago. Got a recipe from the Via Carota cook book. It was good branzino, but not sure I see myself going to the trouble in the future.
  4. I had a great little lunch on the terrace of Cascina Schiavenza a few years ago in Serralunga. We stayed in Monforte. Love that entire area.
  5. You're not wrong. Crash vs. Green Book for worst modern best picture of all time would be a too close to call race. Shape of Water not my cup of tea, but not remotely as terrible as those two pieces of garbage mascaraing as cinema.
  6. You went through all of that summary, and didn't mention that they made a movie about a guy dying after taking the length from a horse? Those dudes are odd ducks.
  7. Green Book. The movie you are looking for is Green Book.
  8. Curry has just eviscerated a shorthanded Bucks in the last 10 minutes. Just elite shot making to go with a game saving block on Jrue.
  9. The Will Emerson roof scene is one of the all time bests.
  10. That’s easy to write, but a lot harder to implement. Who is the final arbiter of whether a player is injured? And that ignores that in many cases its the team giving the load management nod.
  11. You are spot on. I can’t remember if it was Lowe or Simmons or someone else, but I heard Silver described as a great “peace time” commissioner, but it’s time to be a war time commissioner. The league has to do away with load management somehow (I won’t pretend to know the answer). Reducing the games played seems obvious, but no business is going to willingly reduce its revenue generating inventory, so there has to be a replacement revenue stream.
  12. Draymond is annoying, but he’s a HOFer, former DPOY, and critical component to one of the great dynasties in NBA history. Dillon Brooks shouldn’t be in the NBA.
  13. Do you know if you are flying on the A380 or the 777? I got ripped up on the A380 business class bar coming back from Lake Como a few years ago. Great flight. But the best part of that flight without question is the ability to board directly from the Emirates lounge. It's a shame that isn't more common in the U.S.
  14. Sure, fine if you want to suspend him to send a message that the NBA doesn't fuck around when it comes to guns. But as a larger point, I'm not going to be too morally judgmental of a 23 year old short of violent crimes (obviously Ja is flirting with that). If someone had given me a $200 million contract at 23, I would have burned through Colombia's two finest natural resources and died in a ditch somewhere.
  15. I'm just guessing that the NBA isn't dying to find a reason to suspend one of their most popular players for 50 games. I think we all can safely assume that Ja packed on team premises, but unless there is a Gilbert Arenas situation, I assume nothing more will come of this.
  16. It sucks that JJ took the money to whore himself out on ESPN. He and Zach Lowe should both be at the Ringer where there is some semblance of educated basketball conversation across multiple podcasts.
  17. Well our starting defensive line had four future NFL players (assuming Coburn plays in the NFL). We also had a very capable offensive line that included Sam Cosmi (future second round pick), the number one grad transfer offensive lineman (if memory serves), and a multi-year returning starter at center who was better than our current center. Of course they were coached by an imbecile, so that didn't help.
  18. I mean, in 2019 we were returning a veteran team after a 10 win season that included a Big 12 championship game loss and a Sugar Bowl beat down of Georgia, and two straight top 3 recruiting classes. Of course those veterans and their coach shit the bed and we spiraled back down to mediocrity, but there was much more logic for optimism than now.
  19. Yeah, Doncic can be annoying, but Booker can’t carry his jock strap.
  20. I know I’m getting old, because Iverson and Randy Moss were two of my favorite athletes as a kid, and now I’m like “this Ja Morant character seems like trouble”.
  21. The unfortunately numerous Celtics fans in my life use the words “intentional sabotage”. I wouldn’t believe that to be true with almost any professional athlete except for Kyrie. Speaking of the Celts, horrible loss for them at home against Brooklyn last night after being up by more than 20. You hate to see it
  22. His first two years in the league he shot 27% and 22%. His career average is 30%, so he did improve. Whether he reached his maximum potential in that area or failed to sufficiently practice isn’t something one can glean solely from a stat sheet. If you are suggesting you have some inside information here, go ahead and regale us with your performance enhancing tales. Kyrie doesn’t have a professional bone in his body. I guess you are right that unlike James Harden he usually quits on his team by demanding a trade or not showing up to the gym in the first place, although he did quit on the Celtics on the court in the final Bucks series. Luka would be best served by learning nothing from Kyrie Irving.
