  1. The Departed is a wildly entertaining, wildly flawed movie. But I challenge you to say the word “microprocessors” without a schlocky Boston accent after watching this film.
  2. 1. Goodfellas 2. Once Upon a Time in America 3. On The Waterfront 4. Sexy Beast 5. City of God The Godfather insists upon itself
  3. Obviously this guy has some irons in this fire, but the bit at the end about Lindsey is interesting. [Adding here since twitter is borked: "The only other thing I'll add to this is Dennis Lindsey was with the Mavs last year and is a great basketball mind. He left to work for the Pistons this season. Do with that what you will."] https://surlyx.com/haralabob/status/1886194519718166730 On a personal note, I've carried my Mavs fandom with me after leaving Texas over a decade ago. I've seen them just about every time they've played at MSG in recent years, and planned to go to the game in March. This trade is an absolute gut punch to caring about this franchise going forward. I'll probably just let my kid pick up a Knicks jersey instead of trying to brain wash him like I do all things Longhorns and Rangers. Monumentally stupid and unforgivable.
  4. Oh shit, I figured it out. It was a solar flare!
  5. Agreed. Denver and San Antonio are the only teams that hang up if offered to swap their star for Luka. MIL and OKC at least listen and have a conversation.
  6. I think I have a post in 2022, or maybe in 2023 after OU drove down the field to win the game, in which I said something along the lines of "It's time to accept that as long as PK is our defensive coordinator, we will never have an elite defense. Period."
  7. Is 7 Top 50 defensive recruits good? With 5 stars at Edge, linebacker, corner and safety?
  8. All the obvious choices have already been taken, so I tried to do an alt version. Search and Destroy - Iggy & The Stooges (I prefer Iggy mix to Bowie mix) Roadrunner - The Modern Lovers Teen Age Riot - Sonic Youth See No Evil - Television Bodysnatchers - Radiohead Ghost Rider - Suicide The One I Love - R.E.M. Waiting Room - Fugazi Gloria - Patti Smith version Wolf Like Me - TV On The Radio
  9. Criticizing Nickel Boys for being "1-note" is one of the most unintentionally funny things I've seen written in quite some time.
  10. That Bama win is one of the 10 biggest Texas wins this century when taken in context of the previous 13 years of shit.
  11. Tbf, probably has good recs in Pasadena, too.
  12. For me, it's a combination of Letterboxd and the Big Picture podcast. The Big Pic is pretty normie/popcorn centric (aptly titled), but they do have special horror-centric episodes and other one offs, so it ends up providing a pretty good base of knowledge if you have an interest in keeping up with modern movies.
  13. Ha, now that you mention it, I guess I have noticed less "ignored post" notifications littered throughout every recruiting and football board thread.
  14. You were very surprised that a guy with 9 catches and 0 TDs didn’t get his number called in the biggest moment of the year? I lose track of facetiousness, admittedly
  15. 1. Blue Velvet 2. Mulholland Drive 3. Fire Walk With Me 4. Eraserhead 5. Lost Highway 6. Wild at Heart 7. Inland Empire 8. Dune Twin Peaks stands on its own. A goddamn genius.
  16. I think you are really underselling Mukuba. He was nails all year long, and the few times Williams has actually been healthy he’s not been near that impactful IMO. Big offseason for him
  17. Overall agree, but I think we’ll be noticeably worse at the beginning of the season. Replacing 4/5 offensive line starters, including a generational left tackle, is no joke. Losing Barron and Mukuba from the secondary is brutal; I expect that unit to take a big step back. The great thing is that our schedule is very manageable yet again. On paper, trips to Columbus, Athens and Gainesville should be the only real challenges. Plenty of room to have growing pains yet still win. Go 1-2 in those games and you are in the playoffs, and it’s all about getting hot at the right time.
  18. This post is certainly a good reflection of the mass ignorance level of our society.
  19. He’s battling out there. We got a chance
  20. @South Austin wtf, did I miss the it’s Friday, assholes, thread?
  21. The AirTran connects every terminal directly to tons of LIRRs (not a subway, has luggage racks) directly into either west or east midtown Manhattan at all hours of the day, for $15. The AirTran also connects every terminal to 3 subways lines go to Manhattan. Much slower option
  22. As a 2x daily subway rider, pretty much every word of this is hyperbolic nonsense except with respect to LaGuardia. The subway is by and large frequent, fast and clean on the trains. Many of the stations are old and grimey, it is what it is. So are many of the stations in Europe. There are also a decent number of homeless people during real cold spells (like right now), but we don't have the social safety net in America to fix that in a humane way. You can take the LIRR via AirTran from any terminal at JFK directly to Penn, at which point you can take any number of NJTs directly to EWR. It's definitely not as good as the RER from CDG, but it's pretty great. But most people prefer to take a cab and have something to bitch about. This is hilarious. Won't someone think of the women and children! I need to text my wife to watch out on her way to work this morning! In any event, as someone who lives and works in the congestion zone, this is fantastic for me.
  23. Day obviously has the most pressure, followed by Franklin, and then there is a huge gap. Sark might have more pressure than Freeman just given overall program expectations, but I think the masses at Texas are pretty damn happy with the last two seasons and the state of the program, win or lose.
