  1. A 2029 unprotected 1st. That is super dangerous
  2. If art is your thing, PS1 is a good museum in LIC. I know some good restaurants over there (like Takumen and Casa Enrique), but if you are in vacation/tourist mode I would probably just stick to Manhattan, or take the G down to Williamsburg.
  3. Looks like Bamba got a two piece and Rivers may have touched his face while flailing. You hate to see it
  4. Lol at being compelled to fast forward like 10 seconds to avoid seeing gay kissing. T&P
  5. Nick Offerman’s reaction when he first tasted the strawberry. Just laughing at the sweetness he hadn’t tasted in years. Brilliant.
  6. I was meh on the first two episodes, but so glad I watched just so I could see that episode last night. Amazing.
  7. Possession, a 1981 psychological horror movie. Available on AMC+/Shudder (which is maybe the best streaming service). Totally bat shit crazy and awesome. Highly recommend.
  8. Just to be clear, you thought there was no “plot” in the movie Tar? I mean is it “pretentious” to run credits before a film as a nod to the unthanked industry of people it takes to uphold a person of power (like a Lydia Tar)? Sure I suppose so. But no plot? Are you sure you watched the right movie? Or perhaps you are confused about what that word means? Either way, a very impressive misunderstanding of an entire film.
  9. Damn, RIP. Great band
  10. I don’t have a strong opinion on JJJ, but I will say that decently smart basketball people seem to really like his defense fwiw. This thread as an example https://twitter.com/kirkgoldsberry/status/1619419346677399553?s=20&t=FaOfO-03DEHjZscGTxHy7A
  11. This is just typical Reddit basement dwellers. And home scorekeepers are notorious for giving their guys every conceivable benefit of the doubt. https://twitter.com/KevinOConnorNBA/status/1619400282953359360?s=20&t=1xGX_xUdLmk_LxQb_EcY9A
  12. Funny you should say that. I was reading an interview with the directors, and they said as they were writing the script the second season of Rick and Morty came out and used all the ideas they thought were original.
  13. The Academy has also doubled in size in the last 5 years and dramatically increased its minority representation (although women still only make up a 1/3, and POCs 1/5). The idea that there is a central body pushing an agenda is just a false narrative used to drive clicks and outrage from a certain contingent of people.
  14. This movie isn’t really my cup of tea, but deriding it for being “derivative” is about the silliest thing I’ve read in the last two pages.
  15. Well in your defense, McDonagh has downplayed the war/metaphorical reading of the movie in most of his interviews.
  16. Hollywood can’t pass up the opportunity to make a social statement, so it’s going to choose a movie primarily concerned with the search for meaning in a meaningless existence over the overt social statements in Triangle of Sadness, Women Talking, Tar, Avatar and countless others who weren’t nominated? Top notch analysis. Edit: fuck, Uncle beat me by a split second.
  17. Would you rather be forgotten for being a nice but mediocre person or remembered for creating/achieving something lasting while being an asshole? What is the purpose of life? Not much can be deeper than that.
  18. Out on Peacock this Friday I think. I’m continually surprised how much I use Peacock. Nope, She Said, Violent Night, SICK (which rules), and Ticket to Paradise are all streaming now.
  19. What will win (what should win): Best Picture Everything Everywhere All at Once (Tár) Actor in a Leading Role Austin Butler in Elvis (Paul Mescal in Aftersun) Actor in a Supporting Role Ke Huy Quan in Everything Everywhere All at Once (Brendan Gleeson in The Banshees of Inisherin) Actress in a Leading Role Cate Blanchett in Tár (yep) Actress in a Supporting Role Angela Bassett in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Kerry Condon in The Banshees of Inisherin) Cinematography All Quiet on the Western Front - James Friend (yep, although NOPE should have been nominated for sure) Directing Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans (Todd Field, Tár)
  20. Black Lotus killed
  21. That 2026 clippers unprotected is tasty
  22. The theater I was in was dead fucking silent when the credits rolled in that movie. People just walking out shaking their heads. Alex Garland is awesome.
  23. I’ve been in charge of feeding our newborn from 12-6am the last 4 weeks, so I’ve had plenty of time to rip through some remaining 2022 movies on my iPad. Below are some recent watches Aftersun - terrific movie. One of the best of the year Decision to Leave - terrific movie. Stars at Noon - Margaret Qually, grown up. Both Sides of the Blade - Denis’ second movie of the year. Good not great. Vortex - fucking depressing. Yikes Happening - fucking depressing. Armageddon Time - worth a watch I think. Benediction - good, but really slow. I knew nothing about Sassoon. Nanny - watched this horror flick the morning before nanny interviews. Decent. Ending was meh. Confess, Fletch - I laughed Cha Cha Real Smooth - I liked Shithouse but this one was just ok for me Munich the edge of war - not perfect but kept my attention The Stranger - Liked it The Wonder - Florence Pugh, why not Bros - a no for me dog She Said - ok. Stilted acting and dialogue at times. The Cathedral - aight if you were born in 1987
  24. Just ripped through this over two nights. Hell of a show, and nice of them to use my college playlists for the soundtrack. excellent use of Let Down in the last scene.
