  1. This is definitely true. I remember being a little intimidated when I first started at my firm because I was 1 of maybe 4 or 5 in our class of ~65 that didn't go to one of the top 10 law schools (at the time I think it was Ivy schools + Stanford, Chicago, NYU, Duke, etc.). Then you start working and quickly realize that they have a pretty normal distribution of bozos and actual high achievers. But unfortunately this is also definitely true, at least in NYC and (I assume) DC. They may not be smarter or better educated, but the connections and removal of barriers to entry would absolutely be worth it. I have to believe that wouldn't really be a big deal in other markets like Texas where a UT degree carries serious cachet.
  2. It was pretty much non-stop comedy and action-comedy with a pretty simple theme and message. The theater I was in fucking loved it. I mostly liked it - and really liked 1 or 2 scenes - although it’s not really in my wheel house. Well acted.
  3. I somehow just watched Looper for the first time. Great picture.
  4. Kimi - lesser Soderbergh, but better than I thought it would be. No Exit - worth a watch, but not as good as I wanted it to be. Seeing Everything Everywhere All At Once on Friday. The trailer doesn’t grab me but it’s getting rave reviews, so we’ll see.
  5. I mean if Will really fucked Margot Robbie in response as his been rumored, you take that trade all day
  6. So far this year I've liked the new Big Thief, Mitski, Spoon, Earl Sweatshirt and Beach House.
  7. A few weeks ago I went to the NBR awards in New York. It's not televised and on a smaller scale than the Oscars, but it's still pretty A List (Will Smith, Bradley Cooper, etc.). Chris Rock gave the introduction speech for PTA winning best director and devoted the entire time to absolutely ripping PTA, Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim. The jokes included shots at Cooper only getting the role due to nepotism (i.e., his dead father), and that it wasn't believable that a guy that looked like him could get with Alana Haim. I was sitting a few seats from Hoffman and he was laughing fucking hysterically the entire time. All that to say that a 19 year old has infinitely more maturity than Will Smith.
  8. For the love of god why couldn’t Chris Rock think up “damn Will, you would have been less pissed if I slept with your wife”
  9. There have been an infinite number of low blow, insensitive, fucked up jokes at the oscars. Only one nutter charged the stage and then claimed “god” was calling him to be a vessel for love. This isn’t hard.
  10. Haha holy shit Anthony Hopkins. King shit This oscars is drunk as a mother fucking skunk
  11. I knew I was officially old when I cried my eyes out during this movie. For better or worse, I think it’s got a shot at taking best picture from Power of the Dog tonight
  12. Beanie obviously isn’t the singer that Streisand is, but I thought she equipped herself well-enough that it didn’t weigh down the stellar comedic performance.
  13. Went to the opening night preview for Funny Girl with Beanie Feldstein tonight. She was really hilarious; terrific show. Her mom and fiancé were sitting directly behind me and were just losing their shit the entire show. Fun time
  14. And there it is. Philly about to do everything they can to avoid the 2 seed.
  15. Florida Project is excellent. I liked Red Rocket this year also, but probably like Florida Project a bit more. Watched Windfall on Netflix last night. Three good actors chewing scenes with Hitchcockian music and vibe. Not overly special but a good, easy hour and a half. And Lilly Collins, holy smokes.
  16. Put Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas in a modern erotic thriller, what could wrong? Literally everything. An awful movie. Poor Tracy Letts
  17. If you remotely like horror movies, please see X in theaters. So fun
  18. Glad you enjoyed it. I watched it for a second time this weekend now that it is available on streaming. FYI, Hamaguchi actually released a second movie in 2021, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, which although not on the level of Drive My Car is terrific.
  19. Thanks, I did indeed hit Turnbull. In and out with a classic in under 10 mins.
