  1. I think you understand the movie quite well. Campion was clearly trying to present characters filled with complexities that weren't depicted in the Western stereotype (e.g., gay men, alcoholics struggling with depression, etc.), while also trying to tell an intriguing story, while also shooting a technical masterpiece. Plenty of valid criticism for this film: it was plodding at times, the ending of the surface-level story was fairly predictable, some of the characters were overly exaggerated, and, I guess, it wasn't shot in Montana (for me, whogivesashit.gif). But criticism levied by a drug-store cowboy like Sam Elliott that the film inaccurately portrayed a stereotype that made him wealthy, just falls a bit flat.
  2. Bam is playing fucking awesome right now. The East playoffs will be such a grind this year.
  3. As previously stated I liked (not loved) Power of the Dog, but I listened to Maron's podcast with Sam Elliott on the way to work this morning and thought I was reading through Surly! Full summary here: Indie Wire Some choice quotes. By the way, Sam Elliott was born in Sacramento, California, grew up in Portland, Oregon, and has spent his entire adult life in Los Angeles. But he certainly spent his fair share of time on Western movie sets, and I guess his Texan parents regaled him with stories of the old west.
  4. My second favorite movie of 2021, Drive My Car, hits HBO Max tomorrow. If you have 3 hours to spare and are ok with subtitles, it’s a tremendous watch.
  5. You ain’t lying. The clientele at every Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons in Western Europe just dramatically improved overnight.
  6. Yes I’m aware. I was using B side as a stand in for old tracks most of the viewing audience hadn’t heard. I saw them play Thrills at two shows in December. They play the bass hits almost obnoxiously loud with blinding flashes of light throughout the entire song. It’s a fun song but a weird choice for SNL. Yr City is one of my all time favorites, and fortunately it’s become a tour regular.
  7. Saudi Arabia, FIFA and Facebook. The company you keep.
  8. LCD broke out some old b sides for the show last night. Loved it but kind of odd they were selected with no new album.
  9. You clearly underestimate the military prowess of middle aged Texans who’ve read Guns of August on more than one occasion.
  10. I think AquaTerra blue dial is next up on my list. Beautiful watch.
  11. 2007 by itself had at least 4 “truly great” movies in TWBB, NCFOM, Zodiac, and Michael Clayton. Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford isn’t far behind.
  12. This thread is hysterical. Some real LOL moments.
  13. The spicy vodka rigatoni, the veal parm and 2 or 3 martinis has never let me down. I think the rigatoni is “the classic” thing to order there. It’s a small portion. I think I remember the baked clams being awesome as well. There is also a table side prepared Caesar that’s good.
  14. Went to Jackass Forever last night. Those guys have predictably aged like $2 wine. I missed Bam but it was a great hang for 2 hours. Introducing new characters was a good idea.
  15. One of the all time great films. Re-watched Paper Moon recently as well. Tremendous. RIP Peter Bogdanovich.
  16. Embiid with 42 and 14 on 66/75/80% splits at MIL tonight. Just filthy. 3 point game with 13 seconds left.
  17. Damn, Cam Thomas got on one in the second half tonight. Absolute dagger three to clinch the comeback win against the Knicks
