  1. You can only reserve if you have a pass. Much more likely to jam up visitors, IMO. Everyone is gonna get screwed, though.
I seriously doubt they are going to jam up the tourists during those holidays. They will likely hold a large percentage of day passes for the tourists. I'm not worried.
  2. Just scored another bottle of GTS today. Paid tater price but I don't care. Add that to 3 bottles of Bookers, and 2 Rebel Yell 10s and I'm up to 50ish bottles of bourbon. My wife said I have a problem.

  3. 1792 BiB ain’t great. Full Proof is indeed much better. The mashbill needs the extra proof. Per usual, saving $10 isn’t worth it.
I have both in Store Pick. Need to do a side by side blind and see.
  4. I'd recommend Bourbon Pursuit Episode 244 with Master Distiller of A.Smith Bowman, Brian Prewitt.

Contrary to popular belief, they don't contract source 100% of their distillate from Buffalo Trace. Prewitt didn't reveal the exact ratio, but he said they do some distilling on site in Fredericksburg, Virginia and blend their product with Buffalo Trace. All of the aging is done in Virginia. He declined to answer when asked if Bowman was a combination of Buffalo Trace Mashbills 1 and 2. This is widely assumed/accepted Bowman mashbill.

Buffalo Trace provided Bowman with their proprietary yeast strain and mashbill in 2003. It sounds like BT helps primarily with distribution, access to barrels, and distilling. Prewitt said they have some 14 year old barrels in the rickhouse.

While I do like Bowman, I disagree Single Barrel is a substitute for Blanton's. It does have the classic Buffalo Trace tasting notes, but there's some unique stuff going on there. I pick up a little salt, in a good way. It doesn't taste like somebody vatted Eagle Rare (BT Mashbill No. 1) and Blanton's (BT Mashbill No. 2).

Hancock's Reserve is the only correct answer for Blanton's substitute. I'd probably get embarrassed in a blind tasting, but I optimistically think I could tell the difference between the two in a blind tasting. For the record, I like Hancock's better. I suspect it's a little older than Blanton's.

Nice. Where can this Hancock's be found?

  5. This Weller drop madness is similar to a powder day when you are snow skiing. You hear rumors of a rope drop, you make your way over and hope to get the goods. Same chase of the thrill.

Thanks, I'm thinking about going a little shorter on my skis 184 Soul Ski's right now, but 175's would work me a bit less probably, and I've dropped about 10 lbs.

I'm on 184s as well.  I think about dropping down, especially when skiing with the kiddos, but I like to go too fast when I'm solo and like the stability of the longer ski.

  7. 2020 skis are on clearance across the board.  Snagged some Volkl Mantra 102s for $500 and change.  Last set of Mantras (2014) gave me 6 seasons and about 30 days.  Cost per day was around $20.  Totally worth it to buy your own vs. renting. Payback is about 3 seasons.

  8. OUSux - awaiting your Old Tub review... wondering if my palette was tainted from all the Weller SB the other night.
That's like number 8 on the list of bottles for me to try. I'll open it once college football starts....
  9. Picked up a bottle today at Liquor King in Lewisville. Said it arrived today. Nice little store. Lots of Four Roses products, and a lot of small, craft bourbon not found in the big chains.

Did you get both dates?.. I prefer the 14.5 year old from Longhorn Steakhouse put in the barrel on 6/13.

Local store had both.. or did.

I have 2 bottles of each.  I need to run a Pepsi challenge on them blind.

  11. I think Abbott is out to piss off everyone in the state.
TABC reverses new guidelines, forces breweries to close patios again
TABC created an option for temporary license modifications to allow breweries to exclude the patio and outdoor beer gardens from their on premise license - so you could purchase the beer inside, then take it outside to drink. Then last night they reversed that and said they can't do that.

Jesus fucking christ, figure it out. Really, go either way, but this bouncing back and forth within the same  week is insane.
It's because they are just simply guessing at this time. Bunch of hypotheses but no way to isolate variables to get a true scientific answer.
  12. Damn, I'm in.
For whatever reason, this Redemption Wheated just gets better every time I drink it. I'm halfway through my bottle, so went back and grabbed 2 more bottles today. Really good stuff.

  13. If history holds true, there will be a response to the Marxist/communist violence. And it will likely be groups of far, far right people that start rounding up agitators, and taking things into their own hands. If the Marxists can't self police, and the local governments don't keep them in check, then it falls to the feds to intervene. If that is rejected, history shows us the ensuing response will not be favorable to the Marxists. Examples abound in Central America and Eastern Europe post WWII.

Pick your poison. Be careful what you wish for.
