Since I'm less refined, I've got the sounds of Officer Clark from Hollywood Knights singing stuck in my head. "Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia. He was an English Guy. He came to fight the Turkish."
Damn me!
Tnanks for bringing to my attention that I never said they were bad. Just that you can't assume they are great. You have to look for more data. I hope you enjoyed the example. Belichick may be a surly guy but he is a witch when it comes to coaching.
Nobody has to be an NFL guy to consider the following fundamental principle: never assume that a coordinator of a very successful unit is great (OC or DC) if their Head Coach is known to be great at that same position. For Matt Patricia, his Head Coach is not only an excellent defensive mind, but he is known for directing practice to cover everything that he thinks is important. Here is a great example of of Belichick's influence on one of the most significant defensive plays in Super Bowl history (note that the defensive coordinator is not mentioned in this passage):
Oh yes, the Circular Firing Squads are going to be fun to watch over the next four years.
Also, I'm not looking backwards in this thread, but did this get posted? (one of my faves from yesterday)
I love your rationale, but it does have one significant flaw: the selection committee members are old and have poor vision and the only name they could make out on the jersey was SEC, given its huge prominence in juxtaposition to the school name in tiny font. That would've been an open and shut case. Had to be something else.
