  1. Fuck this. ā€˜Tis better to light one candle than curse the darkness. (Ducks barrage of rotten vegetables, feces, dead cats, etc. launched by unruly mob)

    It's Dead, Jim

Anyone remember this strange preseason game? From 1934-1976, College All-Stars vs defending NFL champs played at Soldier Field. Usually a yawner but it broke the off-season drought.
  3. The Alabama fan base has been sorely sorely tested, wandering in the desert for eighteen years, from 1992 to 2010, but it was oh so well worth the wait. We endured conservative or inept offense philosophies, matador defenses, head coaches fired for shagging admin assistants, five consecutive lossess to Auburn, a head coach who never coached a game but knew how to find two strippers to spend the night with, and two nasty probations. Many jumped ship. Well, fuck them. Stay faithful, Horns fans. It is always darkest just before the dawn.
  4. Mizzou beware the Auburn voodoo. Every Bama fan knows it is a real thing.
  5. I can understand why some of you donā€™t like it. I for one liked hell out of it. Never heard Tom Van Dingleberry Parkerā€™s voice, so I took Tom Hanksā€™ version with a strong shaker of salt. All Elvis needed was a half decent lawyer and Parker never would have tapewormed himself into Elvisā€™ heart and soul and dominated his career. Maybe itā€™s because I grew up listening to his music. The man influenced popular music in a huge way and his charisma is unmatched (no homo). In 2004, I visited Ringo Starrā€™s childhood home in Liverpool and met his little old auntie who lives there. The front room id just as it was when Ringo first played with the Beatles. Over the mantel were four 8x10 framed color photos of the Fab Four. Above them was a larger color photo of Elvis circa 1956. I asked auntie why Elvis was up there above the Beatles. She didnā€™t hesitate: ā€œWell, they all loved Elvis, didden they?ā€ Mrs. Llama says heā€™s still around, living incognito as it were.
  6. Donā€™t know about UM but the first person UGA shit goes back to Larry Munson days. Obnoxious, unprofessional as hell but he was outstanding play by play man otherwise.
  7. Definitely go to Neyland, preferably on a chilly October day. Visitors are parked in the nosebleed section overlooking the river. Neyland has the best natural grass field Iā€™ve ever seen. One game my crew attended witnessed a dual flyover by a B-29 and a B-17 trailing red, white and blue smoke. They used to have a guy riding a jet black Tennessee walking horse around the field pregame, which was cool, but I think they retired that in lieu of their band up and down playing Rocky Top over and over. The team running out through the T is okay. Iā€™m 1-1 in Neyland but havenā€™t been in about 12 years. LSU is another good away trip but donā€™t start any shit or theyā€™ll be dragging the Achafalaya next day for your corpse. Donā€™t stay in Baton Rouge but in New Orleans.
  8. Donā€™t doubt what you say. I confess I have not viewed a Nebraska game in many moons to see if some areas of ā€œsoldā€ tickets are masquerading as empty seats. Last week vs ULM a good third of frat block seating at Bryant-Denny were vacant by 10:00 of 3rd quarter, a good 4,000 seats. I would contribute to seizing said frat block sests and hand those tix out to kids otherwise unable to attend. Entitled Spaldings - phooey on them.
  9. True or False: through thick, thin and awful, Nebraska has something like 690 consecutive home sellouts. If true, thatā€™s pretty fucking amazing in these days of shrinking attendance trends.
  10. To Kill A Mockingbird The Patriot Brotherhood of the Wolf Dunkirk Finest Hour Bubba Ho Tep
  11. Dear Former President Trump: If you can declassify something by thinking it, please do us all a great favor and use said superpower to think yourself back to 2015 and step in front of a 5th Avenue bus. Sincerely, Humanity
  12. Bad calls and no calls in that game particularly in second half. Several no call personal fouls on a Pitt. Hey, Pitt came to play. Refs influenced the outcome, as they often do, made it more difficult for W Va to have a chance to win, imho. Pitt gets the W, not arguing that.
  13. WV got homecooked at Pitt. Hope they tutn it around. I like Brownā€™s style.
  14. Britney is what would happen if Betty frin the Archie comics did ecstasy and cocaine. And was real.
  15. Those fuckers canā€™t suffer enough. As the sun set the only sound in the Loveliest Village on the Plains was the mirthless laughter of the damned.
  16. Knoxville? Well that sort of works. They cal roll out fat Phil for a ā€œFall in the Smokiesā€ decoration and save money on pumpkins.
  17. Waiting for the ā€œHey Jimbo: EATMEā€ sign. Viva Boone!
  18. Y-y-y-youā€™re so right! I stand corrected, sir.
  19. I miss Jamie Lee's cute little ass and the c-c-c-comedy of C-c-c-carl (Michael Palin), and John Cleese as the uptight barrister. We need more like AFCW.
  20. Google ā€œAlbert Means.ā€ The sleazy way his recruitment was conducted led in a direct line to Bama probation and two-year bowl ban in early 2000s. It was fucking awful. I donā€™t think he ever played a down. Served us right. Iā€™ve forgotten the name of the Memphis booster who was at the nexus of all that shit. He supposedly died falling down his own staircase, drunk or doped or both.
  21. Or, . . . Orrrrr, . . . 98% of college football viewers have Bama/Saban fatigue and were lusting for more of what happened in the playoff final 4th quarter vs UGA.
  22. Irony dept. - that slaughter was vs then recent Alabama ex coach Dennis Franchione, 77-0. In fairness to him, he was hired in the aftermath of the shameful Albert Means slave auction recruitung scandal and the UA athletic admin did not tell him the heavy sword of serious NCAA probation was falling imminently. In his brief tenure Fran cleared out Neyland, Tiger Stadium and Possum Hair stadiums a couple of times each by the start of the fourth quarter. A Alas, a match not made in football heaven. He was meeting with aggy during Iron Bowl practice that ladt year and flew off to aggyland without so much as a word to the team. Nossir, we didnā€™t like it.
  23. Exactamundo, sir, with all due respect to the normally razor- insightful Immamac. BAsed on Saturday, Texas is on the rise, as are Hogs and Vols. Bama? Jury is still out but as long as that angry little man is pacing the sidelines, I have hope.
  24. Thrre will be no Tide v Horns rematch this season, although Iā€™d love to see one. If Bama plays with the same game plan, intensity and focus, we wonā€™t win in Fayetteville or Knoxville or make the playoff. But what do I know? I only told everyone I knew last week weā€™d be lucky to leave DKR with a one-point win. Too bad I quit betting sports 20 years ago. Fuck it. Roll Tide and Hook Em.
  25. By the way, Gus, Klatt & Co. and generally the whole Fox game coverage was head and shoulders above what we have been subjected to with CBS over the years. Mrs. Llama mutes the TV rather than listen to Gary Danielson. And CBS far overdoes replay, causing the viewer to miss the start if the next play. CBS interrupts live action with garbage stats and graphics ad nauseum. Iā€™m also fairly sick of yelling Fowler and jibbajabba Herbstreit. Knowledgeable fuckers but talk too got damn much. I think CBS is phasing out. Finally, for the record, I saw a safety, period. I was trying to estimate how far Burnip would free kick the ball and whether Nick would be better off having Reicherd just kick it off the tee and hope fir the best. Thank God that crew of eedjit refs wonā€™t be in Tuscaloosa for next yearā€™s game.
