  1. Great themes above, no doubt, Peter Gunn so cool, but this old geezer is partial to the late 1950’s WB Westerns, in no particular order: Maverick Cheyenne the Rifleman Bronco Lane Sugarfoot Bat Masterson the Rebel
  2. Skylar always made me think of Monica Vitti, which made me feel kinda warm and fuzzy, which I liked. I was compelled to sympathize with Skylar and all of the predicaments Walt's bizarre schemes put her in.

    F cancer.

That's the ticket. Never give up. Never give in. Fuck those cancer cells in their microscopic goat asses.
  4. And heads explode all over college football fandom a la 2011. <<OR>> We choke on Cadillac's Auburn voodoo and our heads explode . . . AGAIN. Shades of 1972/17-16, Cam in 2010, Kick Six, ad nauseum et infinitum.
  5. These guys make Doug Niedermeyer look like Mr. Vandreesen.
  6. Who is more Trumprepugnant Batshit Crazy, Kari Lake or Marjorie Taylor Greene? It’s like watching a monkey playing with a hand grenade. You know how it’s going to end but you just can’t stop looking. Except and alas, these assholes have thousands of supporters who actually vote for them. Jaysus, Mary and Joseph, how did it ever come to this?

    F cancer.

Take Mike B to MD Anderson in Houston. The fine docs there create excellent treatment plans for specific issues and specific patients. Two close relatives of mine went in scared and pessimistic and came out cancer free. It wasn’t fun and it wasn’t quick but they were fucking cancer free.
  8. Well played and well won, LSU. Like Clark in the wildlife fun tent cabin with Ellen, they went for it and by God they got it. Our offense was too anemic too much of the time. Daniels made us look silly on defense. He’s a tough out. Bravo Horns for beating K-State. As for Bama, Citrus Bowl here we come.
  9. After my DVR got fried by lightningand I got a replacement, it took my cable provider several, ahhh, months, shall we say, to realize I was receiving literally all the HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and a handful of others for free, about 60 different channels in all. Anyhoo, I would scroll and cherry pick movies to archive, and Eye In the Sky was one. Very cool and well done. Features the smallest robotic flying aerial camera spy device you ever saw. Well worth the watch. The English speaking skinny pirate from the Maersk Alabama plays a good guy, of all things.
  10. Looking forward to watching this one. These teams destroyed UF and UK in games that were expected to be somewhat competitive. GA tight ends are very effective and Thurston B. Bennett the 5th always seems to know where they and that sneaky fast Bama killer #84 (McConkey?) are, hso he can check down to them when under pressure. I’m still in a daze after seeing Tenn “waltz” up and down the field at will on Bama and Tenn D is underrated. Guarantee you this - the Pillsbury Doughboy in red and black will be hopping up and down trying to get GA defense to switch out calls as Tenn O lines up in 15 seconds between plays. How GA defense handles Tenn a-go-go is a key. Get a few 3&outs and Tenn could get too far behind and UT defense to gassed to win. In the end, I’m for UT. I just derive a sick pleasure seeing painted up GA fans in spiked outfits with sad little faces.
  11. Alabama won't back in, slide in, or be "allowed" in the CFP unless they win out and if they win out they should be in. This issue could easily become moot Saturday night in Baton Rouge. LSU is rising and Bama has struggled on the road. If TCU wins out, they'll be in, and should be. Let the chips fall where they may, let's rock and roll.
  12. I was there too. I saw 60/40 Horns fans, a great site, a beautiful day, two well-coached teams playing hard. Even after Colt went down, Squints brought Texas back within 3 and Texas had big momentum. One more long pass to Shipley and you guys are in FG range and if the kick’s made, we go to O/T where anything goes. The sack-fumble changed all that. I didn’t see any Bama fans storming the field. If you’re saying we’re “no better” than Aubies that’s your prerogative. I respectfully disagree.
  13. Say what you will about ex-corch Harsin, he got those fuckers ready to play in last year's Iron Bowl. But for Bryce Young's heroics in the last minute of regulation and four fucking overtimes, Auburn wins that game, with a gimpy qb, no less, and the Unwashed Philistine Hottentots rush the field like maggots on a two-day old skwushed possum on U.S. 82. I still remember with not a little pleasure, how Harsin noticeably smirked when Bama failed to convert on 4th and 1 with about three minutes to go in regulation. That was his mistake - the football gods don't like smirking before 0:00. It is written.
  14. They cannot suffer enough. Period.
  15. FWIW I’ve been focusing on estate planning since 1985, first with a small firm for four years, then solo for the next four, then with two associates for the next three, then solo since 1996. I’ve learned some things and continue learning every day. DIY estate planning is like DIY surgery. Robert Shapiro did the estate planning bar a huge favor with LegalZoom; I’ve fixed or replaced enough LZ wills, trusts, POAs and health care directives to pay my annual overhead. LZ is not the problem, its users are. You’re better off consulting an experienced attorney provided you establish right up front the terms of representation. The services to be rendered, turnaround time and fee. Beware of document factory law firms which send direct mail or email announcing free seminars with blurbs designed to scare senior citizens, e.g., “The federal government has enacted new laws which will impact your estate plan!” Dozens of my clients started with document factory firms. They came to me dragging huge four-inch thick binders containing multiple documents such as 100-plus page “loving” trusts asking me to explain, fix and boil them down. I practice in a common law state. I realize Texas is community property. However the same simple questions apply to all estate planning: 1. Who gets what? 2. When do they get it? 3. Who’s in charge? Blended families are now the rule instead of the exception. Beware of any estate plan which permits the surviving partner to revamp the plan. Fix your shit right. There are multiple routes your assets can follow when you become a croakee. Figure it out - make your advisor explain it to uour satusfaction before you sign anything except the engagement agreement. Then relax and live your life out doing what you enjoy, posting outrageous shit on Surly, ridiculing anyone and everyone, reveling in a beautiful whatever, and keeping it real.
  16. SIAP but when a "warrior" draws a sword from a leather scabbard, or even a good sized knife from a leather sheath, and the multichannel audio comes alive with a reverberating metal on metal ZZZZ-I-I-I-I-ING-ing-ing" sound. Stuff and nonsense. Bull. Fucking. Shit. We see the damned blade. That's enough. We get it. Sincere apology to the visually challenged.
  17. Methinks we be devolving as a species. We can make a comeback but the fourth quarter is upon us and our qb is dinged up and we’re playing on the road with Big XII refs. Stay tuned.
  18. Well, I’ll be damned. I didn’t know that was true for the “uniform pron” special one and done unis, helmets and shoes. WTB, thanks for the most UnSurly tone of your information sharing, as old Llama learns about the commercial world of college sports marketing.
  19. All this variety, creativity and homage-paying is fine, but . . . what are all these alternate helmets, unis and shoes costing? Texas, Bama, Pedo St, Michigan, even hated and despised Auburn and aggy unis are just fine as is, freeing up their athletic departments’ monies for better use. I guess I’m just an old fart and fiscally conservative, hate to see good money spent on what’s essentially a never ending series of football fashion weeks. Phil Knight started all this shit. Seriously, what does an entire (85? 100?) set of alternate helmets cost? I mean there are oligarchs starving in Russia, Phil. I picked a bad week to stop taking psilocybin. I blame Hypnotoad.
  20. Bumpuses! Sonsabitches! Jean Shepard was a fucking genius, with a perfect narrator’s voice. Check out YouTubes of his WOR radio shows, a veritable plethora of raconteur gold. I’ll give the remake a look, but won’t expect the jewel-like majesty of the original. Maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised, like getting a cool slingshot instead of a pair of socks.
  21. I witnessed a couple of dozen individuals rush the field at Legion Field when Gene Stallings’ 1991(?) Alabama team ended a 5 or 6 year consecutive losing streak vs Pat Dye’s Auburn teams. Bham PD had those punks zip tied and sitting in the South end zone in five minutes. Showed a lot more tenacity and quickness than any of our defensive backs did Saturday, I tell you what. Burton acted a fool and should be punished. Mass rushing the field will result in multiple injuries and deaths eventually, somewhere other than Tajikistan.
  22. If there ever was a real "dynasty," a word that is as tired and overused as "iconic" and "storied," the end of it has begun every couple of years since Cam Newton shit in our mess kit in 2010. Somehow, Nick Saban never seems to get the memo. You might be right but only time will tell. I just enjoy watching college football, especially when the unexpected happens and an underdog plays like a team on a mission and humbles a favorite. Sucks when it's Bama, but it happens. We could still make the playoff, even win it. Several bad habits are going to have to change, though.
  23. There's the Surly I know and love. Seriously, Surly is the best message board on the Interweb, and what's more, it doesn't cost a penny.
