  1. Large brush pickup in my ‘hood is in less that 2 weeks. Good timing and my street is going to keep them busy.
  2. Dominique Champion is a halfway decent stripper name.
  3. You should be fine. I drove Houston to Austin last night and got in at midnight. Took it slow from Bastrop on and never felt any slipping at all. Temp was right at 32 and it’s only getting warmer today.
  4. “Something else an academic education will do for you. If you go along with it any considerable distance, it’ll begin to give you an idea what size mind you have. What it’ll fit and, maybe, what it won’t. After a while, you’ll have an idea what kind of thoughts your particular size mind should be wearing. For one thing, it may save you an extraordinary amount of time trying on ideas that don’t suit you, aren’t becoming to you. You’ll begin to know your true measurements and dress your mind accordingly.” - Mr Antolini, the old pervert professor from Catcher In the Rye.
  5. ‘47 Franchise is my hat of choice. Total dad hat. I wish they made that one in white with an orange Bevo. ‘47 Clean Up is the style they make In white and I don’t like it. Closest I’ve found in Franchise is a light khaki with orange Bevo.
  6. 101X is full on classic rock now. I love Chili Peppers and Nirvana but most of that stuff is 20-30 years old and I’ve heard it enough, yet they keep cramming it onto the airwaves hour after hour.
  7. Pretty good assessment of the state of EV charging stations and range estimates for EVs on road trips right now. 5 different EVs on 5 different road trips and their experiences. https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/road-tripping-in-our-long-term-electric-test-cars/ tl/dr: There are still significant reliability problems with lots of the charging stations. You need multiple options and should expect to find broken or slow chargers. Cold weather can render the range estimates completely worthless. None of this is new information, but it paints a pretty good picture of what to expect on a road trip and how to counter it. No Teslas were involved in these trips, their network seems to have a clear advantage still, but hopefully not forever.
  8. I have the short sleeve. I thought it was a great shirt until we lost both games I wore it for. It’s banished to the back of the closet now until my kid grows into it and maybe has better luck with it.
  9. This is the most Austin shit ever. Builder tells them to not fuck with the train. So they immediately fuck with the train and break it. After admitting they did the exact opposite of what the builder told them they claim to have found “other problems” with the train and decide to break ties and ask for a non-disclosure agreement regarding the whole fiasco. And here’s an extra $10k for you to agree not to sue us. I need to go into the park train building business. Deliver some unfinished non-working shit… wait for Austin to fuck it up… get paid extra and leave.
  10. So my 17 year old is starting to ride a little bit. It’s tough to fit in his schedule but he’s had fun lately and we are doing a mountain bike vacation together this summer. So I need to get him a bike, which seems like the perfect excuse to buy myself a bike instead and let him ride it. Already have a burly trail/enduro rig and I’d like to avoid too much crossover so I’m looking for a lighter, faster XC bike. The kid doesn’t really like gnarly terrain yet so it’ll suit him well and I’ll ride it on my neighborhood trails where my current bike is overkill. I demoed a Orbea Oiz all weekend and had a blast on it. I’d forgotten how fast a short travel stiff bike is. It’s probably 6-7 pounds lighter than my bike and it just doesn’t bounce at all when you pedal, even with the suspension full open. I’m not a big Strava guy but most of my stuff gets logged on there and with a moderate effort I set a 40 second PR on a short local <1 mile chunky trail I’ve done hundreds of times before (DiscGo DiscGo for you SATN’ers). Just really surprised at the difference in speed. It handled basic blue trails with chunk and ledges fine, though not nearly as comfortably as I’m used to. I guess XC race courses are getting rowdier and XC bikes are getting slacker and more travel for them. Not going to buy it yet. Gonna scour the used market for a bit first.
  11. You’re obsession with peoples shoe choice is odd. How about people who wear athletic shoes but aren’t engaging in sports? Or wearing Jordans but don’t play basketball? Hiking shoes when not on a nature trail? Boots with a heel out on your ranch but not on an actual horse with feet in stirrups? How about women wearing yoga pants while not practicing yoga? I don’t wear cowboy boots these days but I get the appeal. They look nice and are comfortable and easy to put on. Who cares? Also drive a truck because I needed one 17 years ago and the one I bought then still runs great and has been paid off since 2010. Next car will be an EV but not until I absolutely have to buy one.
  12. Don’t flatter yourself.
  13. I keep fucking forgetting about them until late at night.
  14. Same for me. I usually pause after 10 for maybe 30 seconds or a minute, then finish the last 5. I’m back on pace and going to try to get about 7-10 days ahead of schedule then pull back to 30 a day.
  15. A disturbingly common trend in a lot of short documentaries these days.
  16. I park an old beat up Landcruiser in the compact car spots. Not to save time or anything, just a personal passive aggressive protest against the lack of decent sized parking spots in some lots. It’s a little snug but it fits and doors can still be opened enough for all but the fattest drivers.
  17. The issue isn’t whether it inconveniences anyone, the issue is how soft have you become that you need to shortcuts to avoid walking 20 fucking feet further from a store?
  18. This. Lost the left engine and got too slow. Vmc’d it in. All that thrust on the right side has to be offset with rudder. Get too slow and you lose rudder authority, the good engine kills you.
  19. Not exactly what you asked about, but worth considering… It was recently pointed out in the Tesla thread that non-Tesla EVs still can’t use Tesla Superchargers. It’s been announced that they’ll be able to, but I think it’s not been enacted yet. And when they enacted that change in Europe it ended up being for only a select few stations, not the whole network. They can use the slower Destination chargers, but most of the charging stations along highway routes are Superchargers and in Texas we don’t a big network of non-Tesla charging stations yet. It’s mostly the random chargers in an Econo-Lodge or Pizza Hut parking lot. I don’t want to give more money to Tesla but it seems like having an EV of any other brand would be a huge hassle if you plan on any type of road trips.
  20. You got a shed to lock them in?
  21. I thought she was gonna turn the door knob.
  22. Not to me. It looks like an average dime-a-dozen sedan to me. I don’t find it particularly attractive or ugly, just basic.
  23. They stopped taking orders for the 3 Long Range a while back because the orders were backlogged so far. I need a new car in a year or so and would love it to be an EV. I drive to Houston and back once a week and I’d like to be able to do it with minimal charging. I’d also like to spend less than 60k or so because I’m just not a big car guy and I have other priorities for my money than cars. Kia EV6 has solid reviews but doesn’t have the range of the Tesla 3LR. The Ioniq also has good reviews but is a ugly as bowling shoes. The 3LR seems to fit the bill perfectly except I’d have to give my money to that crazy fucker and that’s not real appealing to me.
