  1. Oh there was plenty of cursing... just keeping it family friendly. And the gap jumps were fairly short with smooth run-ups and landing zones... easy to carry speed. I just figured it was so much work to get to the top of those trails I probably wasn’t going to see them twice and might as well make the most of it. Slickrock was outstanding and I’m glad I did it. I read lots of folks say there are too many better trails out here and to skip it. It wasn’t crowded at al. There’s almost no tech to it, just some steep grippy climbs. It was physically hard but so rewarding. I’m about to go do HyMasa and Captain Ahab. I almost certainly won’t do Portal tomorrow. I’m not above walking the scary parts but I’ve been reading they have problems with people clogging up the trail at those points for those who could otherwise clean it and I do t want to be that guy. There’s plenty of fun on the upper Mag 7 trails, but it means you have to have the ride be half as short or spend a lot of time going back uphill.
  2. Here’s a little bit of Fruita. Rode for about 3 hours and it was a blast and an asskicker. These are the funnest trails I’ve ever ridden and each one was better than the last. This was the best but Zippity Do Dah had more holy shit moments. I upload load that one later as service here is sketchy. I’m in Moab now about to hit Slickrock.
  3. It’s a Pivot Switchblade I picked up used a little while back. I love it. I had the Mach 5.5 before and the Switchblade is very similar but in 29”. It’s way more bike than I need, but you know... Heres yesterday’s ride to the Lighthouse and back to my campsite.
  4. Here’s Palo Duro Canyon this morning just after sunrise. Givens Lowery and the Lighthouse trails. Driving through a snowy Colorado now. 4 more hours to Grand Junction to ride Fruita 18 Rd tomorrow. Will try to put together a video tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Those hieroglyphic signs are the reason I signed up for premium on Trailforks and the downloadable maps. There's no shortage of easy single track in Austin.
  6. With who? Texas Pools and Patios completely blew me off a few months ago. Guy came out, sketched some shit up, said I'd hear back in a week or two and then... crickets. Same thing happened with some other company out of Dripping Springs a couple weeks ago. I got a third company coming out tomorrow.
  7. Those jump lines out there are so great. Last time I was there that whale tail was on the ground, half finished. Sunday mornings I've been riding the BCGB from Barton Springs while my son is running the hike and bike trail for cross country practice. Anyway, these Sunday morning rides are taking me back over terrain I was riding 25 years ago when it was the only spot in town.. at least that I knew of. Today I made it up the Elephant Butt for the first time ever. Been up it hundreds of times but never made it. I always went for the not-as-steep line diagonal up the rock and then got stuck in a hole near the tree. It took seeing someone on FB taking a line I never even considered to show me how it's done. Got up on the rock today and turned right, straight up the steep part... easy peasy. Can't believed it never occured to me to go that way. Felt good to take another spot I'd never cleaned before off the list.
  8. Rising Sun does good work on Toyotas. I had mine in recently and they had several lifted and modded Tacomas, Cruisers, and 4Runners.
  9. With the Basin closed, check out Ernst Tinaja. Short easy hike up a dry creek bed with some really cool rock formations. Don't jump in the pool at the end... you won't get out. Maybe a mile each way. Near Boquillas, off Old Ore Rd (high clearance).
  10. It's a certainty that I will take hours of footage and have about 45 seconds of it be watchable. And I'm around this week if you wanna hit RPR mid week. Was thinking about camping out there Wednesday night.
  11. Yeah but you gotta sleep in the tent with my Dad. He snores. I'll be in the truck.
  12. Heading out next Friday for a road trip to Fruita and Moab. I've been trying to do this trip for a few years and finding the right combination of weather, days off, kids' schedule, etc.. has kept it from happening. Basically 1 day in Fruita, 4 days in Moab with an option to switch that up a little. Alsoa quick stop at Palo Duro Canyon on the way up and back. Taking my old man with me. He took me on a ton of road trip adventures as a kid and it'll be good to add one more to the list. Camping at Palo Duro since it's on the way and will get a morning ride in there (Lighthouse trail? Not sure what else) before heading on to Fruita. Got a campsite on some private land near 18 Road in Fruita but hoping for a better spot on the BLM land right at the trails. Kessel Run, PBR, and Zippity-Do-Dah are tops on the list there. Then whatever else looks good before heading to Moab. Got a campsite one night at Sand Flats and hoping to find a 1st come-1st serve spot for another day or two that I couldn't reserve. Got a hotel room one night in the middle for a hot shower. In Moab it'll be Captain Ahab one day and the Mag 7 trails another day. Navajo Rocks looks better and less crowded than Slickrock... but I've been eyeing Slickrock for 20 years... one of those two will be the third day. It's too early for the Whole Enchilada, that'll have to be next time. Probably hike with Pops in Arches one day. Here's some trail porn... Not my videos, just what I'm planning to hit
  13. Who the fuck knows? But I put zero credence into things that random people say they’ve seen, any video put forth on YouTube, any documentary on TV about it, and any other shit I didn’t see with my own eyes. More simply put, I don’t believe anybody. I don’t care if somebody told me it was confirmed with radar or sightings by other pilots, or whatever else they think helps confirm the story. They saw something else. Or they saw it at a weird angle that made it appear to be doing something it wasn’t. Or they’re senile. Or they’re just straight up full of shit. Or they really did see what they saw but there’s some other explanation for it that we haven’t figured out yet.
  14. I’m jealous of those blinds. We’re over here working with de-ice cards and checklists wedged up in there. I passed through AUS day before yesterday and it was still out on the ramp if you wanted to go check it out. It was parked in the overflow pad south of the terminal though, not very visible from outside the fence.
  15. We're getting there Wednesday to snowboard Thursday thru the weekend. Looks perfect. Glad the road up the pass in is good shape.
  16. If I tip well can we skip Chakras 1-6? My Root Chakras is all I need worked on today. The full alignment and hand charging.
  17. I spent part of my summers in Fort Davis quite a few times as a kid. I bet you could count on about 10° cooler than Austin on average. Still hot but not quite as unbearable.
  18. Lubbock can get a little windy but they have two perpendicular runways so you should never have more than a quartering crosswind. Both runways are long. There’s also fields galore everywhere so the engine-out glide routine should be easy. Most of the fields around there are probably lined up on cardinal direction section lines so that makes some of your maneuvers a little easier than in central Texas where every road winds around random directions. Elevation. Is higher than you’re used to. 3500ish feet I think. On a warm day you will notice that density altitude. Expect your performance numbers to be worse than at home. Lubbock Aero is the fbo I’ve been to a long time ago. There might be something else on the field too. I’d say Lubbock isn’t a bad place at all to do a check ride, just expect the worse performance and some wind.
  19. GTFO of here with that. I have a perfectly clear understanding who the men are, what they said, and how they likely meant it. But, like many phrases, it can be unacceptable in one context and perfectly acceptable in another. There are plenty of phrases that can only be racist and they should all be canceled. This isn’t one of them.
  20. I’m not seeing the connection between Lee and the song at all. Are you saying that anytime that anyone says “the eyes of_______ are upon you.” thats it’s related to Lee? Because if that’s what you’re saying it’s really fucking stupid. That was and still is a common figure of speech. It’s older than Lee. Sombody talking to Robert E. Lee once scratched their balls too. Does that link all future ball scratching to Lee? Am I being racist at the moment as I type with one hand and scratch my balls with the other?
  21. https://www.willowhouse.co That’s one I like the look of. I prefer to camp out there but if I didn’t that’s where I’d want to stay.
  22. Check out the AirBnBs in Terlingua. Good views of the Chisos. Close to a few restaurants in Terlingua. And you can hit the crowded spots in those other places on the way in and on the way out to say you’ve been there.
  23. 6 months ago I was getting quotes on a pool. I got cold feet and decided to make sure I was going to remain employed through this shit before going any further. Fast forward to today and I’m still employed and it seems like I’m safe again. Have I missed the boat to get a pool in Austin done by the end of summer? I’m assuming yes.
  24. He added it to the bag. For Stoops.
