Shanahan didn’t cause the fumble, the botched punt return, the missed XP, the run of injuries, or the Oline letting Chris Jones absolutely blow them up on a couple of key downs. It didn’t sound like the players were prepared for the OT rules which is on him. However, I would take him as my team’s coach tomorrow over just about anyone else out there. You have to get there to have a shot at losing it.

All of that is true.  I want him to succeed.  He coaches my team.  He has been to the Super Bowl 2xs as a HC which is no easy accomplishment at all.  He IS a damn good coach that 30 other teams would love to have.  But I got names in my head like Bud Grant and Marv Levy this morning... it's a ways to go before it comes to that but still.

  2. Reading this thread this morning...

Kyle Shanahan - I don't know.  3 Super Bowls as a play caller and he can't put the dagger in the chest when it matters most.  Do you blame him?  Purdy's inexperience?  Or does it just come down to Mr. Chris Jones and the KC D wanting it more when it truly counted?  KC D did a good job taking away Kittle and limiting other playmakers all game too.

Personally, I have to wonder if last night IS the proof\nail in the coffin that he does not have the ability to close when it matters the most.

I did enjoy the Swift shots last night in huge part because Blake Lively was there.  Nothing against Ms. Swift.  I do think it is cool for you Dad's that got to experience watching the game with your daughters.  My daughters have sat through many a UT game with and without me.  My youngest and her family were at my house last night watching the game.

3 SB losses in a row.  Geez.  At least I can say I had a dog in the hunt, I guess.

Last thing, I usually enjoy watching Mahomes and the Chiefs and if they would have beaten any of the other 30 teams playing last night I would be happy for them.  I think the Mahomes and Kelce duo is one of the best combos you will ever see.  This coming from a Montana to Rice guy. Joe and Jerry only one 2 rings together.  These two have just played in their 4th SB and celebrating their 3rd win.

i'm waiting for them to make the USGP a rotating race between locations, one of which will be COTA and 3 of which will be the shit quasi street circuits of Chicago, Vegas and Miami.

I caught the NASCAR street race in Chicago.  I thought it was a shit show.  Hopefully, F1 would go in a different direction there... be it a new venue or different route.

Was just looking at that. After Charles Woodson in 1997, it's been pretty rough. Number of Pro Bowls in parentheses.

    • Maybe???: Newton (3 + 1 MVP)
    • Good-but-not-quite-Hall-worthy: Ricky (1), Palmer (3), Ingram (3)
    • Meh: Dayne, VY (2), Bradford, RGIII (1), Winston (1), Mariota, Mayfield
    • Terrible: Weinke, Leinart, Troy Smith, Tebow, Manziel
    • Non-existent: Crouch, White
    • Jury's still out: Henry (4), Jackson (3 + 1 MVP), Murray (2), Burrow (1), DeVonta Smith

Cam's on the outside looking in, but I guess it's theoretically possible. Current trajectory looks promising for Henry and Jackson. Henry's likely done as part of the "best RB in the NFL" conversation, but if he squeaks out a couple more 1,000 yard seasons it's probably a done deal. Jackson's gotta stay healthy and a Super Bowl win wouldn't hurt. Interestingly, Henry and Jackson were drafted 45th and 32nd overall. A lot of the rest of these guys were high first rounders.

To be fair, there was a big string of crap before Woodson as well. Heisman winners being bonafide NFL stars pretty much ended with the 80s.

I will always believe Ricky gets in if he laid off the weed***.  I wonder what his take is on that.  Even with the suspensions, he is just over 10,000 yards rushing.

***I had no issues with him doing it.  I would gladly toke along with him given the opportunity.

No clue. That's the thing though, there are content and conversation drivers, then there are drive-by quippers, there are news updaters, there are question askers, there are simple idiots, and then there are lurkers. We can all fit around any of that at any given time, but everyone buckets primarily into limited set of categories. Content and conversation drivers are as such because they post a lot, they're usually trying to post something provocative or creative or at least original. They're going to have plenty of takes and some of those will be flat out absurd in hindsight. It goes with the territory. This board is inherently better when more people are participating and, God forbid, taking some risk in their positions.

That's not a rant at you, wop genius. Just food for thought for everyone while it's slow.

I prefer to lurk on the 9.95.  I know there are other people way more informed and qualified to discuss what's really going on.  I don't have the drive or time to keep up with things on my own anymore.   I do appreciate the low signal-to-noise posters here and what they bring to the table.

I guess not winning a championship in almost 30 years has softened up the fanbase out in SanFran.

    (i kid)

You not on the Brock jock?

I just assumed you guys would be all in.

Didn't say I didn't care if we won or not.  Last couple of Super Bowls have sucked.  Brock had a rough go early in the year and I had some doubts but that was more of product of Williams being out at LT.   It will be interesting to see if Brock can become that guy who can pull games out when down for Shanahan.

That being said, Detroit has never played in the big game and that would be awesome to see.  That was the intent of my previous post.

Who could complain about that?  When the Chiefs beat us a few years back I was down but KC hadn't won in like 50 years so I couldn't get too down.

My son was 4 years old at that game. He suffered through the heat and humiliation right along with his dad. He identified teams by their helmets then, and when we played Baylor later that season, he cried, “Oh no, not the Golden guys again!” when the Baylor players took the field.

That was the first time I laughed since 66-3.

If I look close enough, I still might be able to see an actual scar I got that day.  Wife dropped me off around Jester or somewhere on that side of campus prior to kickoff.   When I was getting out we were chatting about pickup times and I managed to cut\scrape the hell out of my left pectoral area while closing the door... caught the corner of the door on that piece of shit car.  It was very visible for years when I had no shirt on.  Shitty reminder of a most shitty game.

One of the hardest things to do in football is try to locate the ball while keeping track of your man with the ball in the air.

There is a reason everyone has complained about it for the last 15 years as teams have been throwing the ball more and it’s not an issue isolated to Texas

I agree but it is still frustrating to see.  You would think think this is something that could be mitigated.  I mean, people do make money to figure this shit out.  I know it happens in the pros a lot these days too.

  9. I miss those days of having It’s A Wonderful Life on a loop and putting together stuff. It helped that my kids were very appreciative for what they got even in the leanest of times.

One winter before I had a family I worked at Target as a night stocker. My job was putting together bicycles and grills for displays.

  10. bowls used to matter more. there were probably less and the games were celebrations of the season, now with play offs the bowls are kinda stupid. they do get better as Jan 1 approaches but that used to be the main event, interesting match ups over the holidays. now the main event is the playoff so the bowls have lost A LOT of luster.

I remember the days when 7-4 or 8-3 was cutting it close to get to a bowl game.
