Still trying to rekindle my art itch, I have put acrylic paint on canvases on three different occasions in the past month. The results were not good and I really struggle getting the hang of making the paint do what I want. I'm thinking about trying oils soon and see if I have any better luck.
I've been looking back and trying to remind myself of times when creating things was a pleasant experience, even if the results were never quite as good as I hoped. It was still relaxing. I'm trying to get back to that.
Back when I was playing around with poly clay about a decade ago, I would just sculpt random small heads for practice. Sculpting from photos isn't easy. One night I was sitting in my comfy chair and The Searchers came on TCM, one of my favorites. I had a hunk of clay in my hands and ended up using the movie for reference. I got a long way towards getting this head done during the movie. Then later I cut a piece of a soda can or something to build the brim of the hat on and fine tuned it. Still somewhat rough, but it was fun. I I had kept going and at least put a neck on him, but I never took it further.
