  1. Salet is now supposedly going to be the Niners DC. I guess the HC interviews didn't go so well. Surely, Jerry wants to interview Joe Brady when he's available?
  2. Yeah, I don't like him, but he seems to at least put good solid teams on the field. Seems like they would have interviewed him by now if there was interest, though. I hope they interview some more candidates. I'm not a fan at all of Schottenheimer because of his total lack of creativity as OC, even though McCarthy called plays. The offense seems really stale. On the bright side, he might at least prove to be a better game manager than Mike, wouldn't be a shocker. So it could be worse, especially with a short term deal that Jerry likely wants. It also might keep the better part of the defensive coaching staff in place. Maybe he would bring in some younger offensive coaching talent to help out. I hope they're still looking and making calls and interviews. They can do better. Even Wes Phillips would be worth a look, if he can bring anything like the Vikings offensive look and help the qbs get easier targets and spread the ball around, and beef up the running game.
  3. Mi TIenda tamales. Pretty dang solid.
  4. HEB never closes. They just run out of hours.
  5. It's pretty unethical for ESPN as well, but well...
  6. It's always darkest before the "fuck, I didn't know it could be even darker."
  7. Nobody wants McCarthy. Except maybe Jerry? I would rather have him back and replace Schottenheimer than hire Schottenheimer as HC. But maybe he wouldn't be as shitty an HC as OC.
  8. Nobody should be in Oakland. Well, maybe except the Raiders.
  9. The Dodgers look like they are trying to field two All Star teams and play themselves in the world series somehow.
  10. Good sign of intelligence. He should move up on Jerry's list.
  11. Schottenheimer seems like he's one of the biggest problems. The offense is so predictable. But I guess his name sounds like a decent coach. I'm going to keep believing this is a tweener interview until they line up a more serous candidate. I mean, if you have to name an incumbent, Zimmer, or Al Harris, maybe. The defense was coming around, and Zim wasn't a horrible head coach for the Vikings.
  12. Calypso...it's what's for after dinner.
  13. Andy was too much of a loyal believer in upchuck McNabb. He would probably be the same if he had Dak. He just lucked out and got an actual big game qb in KC, after several teams passed on him.
  14. Shame what has happened to FM radio, even AM as well. It's hard to pick up a station more than a short drive away without it being buried in static from down south. I wish they could figure out a way to filter out he bullshit so you could pick up a halfway decent music station or pick up a game while on the road. I hate streaming in cars. Radio was free and it worked for ages.

    RIP John Sykes

I think it is one of those typical lip synced shows from back in the day. Not a lot of good live video from those days. In fact, come to think of it, I don't even think Sykes even played on that record but joined the tour after the album was released, then was a major writing contributor on the next one. He probably would have played something more complicated on that song. But still, he looks great on stage.

    RIP John Sykes

This is my favorite Whitesnake song (I really only dug the earlier stuff), with Sykes, and another one of my all time favorite guitar players, Mel Galley, formerly of Trapeze.
  18. Some of that also could explain Dowdle's decent season stats. They looked pretty good, but it was largely because the defense really didn't GAF about him. Useful, but not that dangerous.

I'll just put this hear, too. This 2004 Thin Lizzy show was my first and only (I know, it's not the real thing). I really went mainly for Deep Purple and Joe Satriani, who they were opening for. I hadn't really listened to Lizzy that much in my youth, just the few songs that people knew. After this show I was so impressed with the songs, as well as Sykes and Gorham as a tandem, with Sykes also lead singer, it got me to really dive deep into the Thin Lizzy catalog. Now they are way up there in my top favorite rock bands of all time.
  20. On paper, Ohio State should take this. But I have a weird feeling that Notre Dame is the team of destiny. I like the coach.
  21. John Sykes, RIP. I photographed him here with the 2004 version of Thin Lizzy in Dallas. \
  22. He's still younger than Brandon Weeden was when he was drafted, so maybe he's got a chance.
  23. Exactamundo. Get a decent staff with modern football knowledge. Or even better, future football knowledge.
  24. Most I ever spent on a guitar was a Rickenbacker 360 12-string fresh from the factory. It was absolute gorgeous and sounded great, and being a Beatles and Tom Petty fan I wanted one for a long time. But that neck kept seriously bowing on it like a bitch, so after about 6 adjustments over several months I sold it, and I was relieved to get my money back out of it. I couldn't play it anyway with my fatass fingertips on that skinny neck. I struggle enough with 6 strings.
