When I was a kid in the late 80s my sweet grandmother thought it would be a good idea to buy me a suit from Mervyn's (I think). Not a suit for 9 year old me, mind you but for an adult me because they were having a sale and it was like $49 or some shit .
This lovely, caring psychopath took me to the men's department and held up men's suit to my 4 foot something 70lb frame. She then tried to extrapolate what she was seeing to what she thought I would look like when I was 21. She told me I could where it to interviews. There was even a employee was completely baffled at what they were seeing. That made two of us.
They tried to direct us to the boys department. She dismissed them with utter contempt and a roll of her eyes that would've made my daughter proud.
Fast forward to when I was leaving to go to college. That same suit was in the back of my closet, never worn, still on probably the same hanger.
My mom couldn't believe it and made me try it on.
It fit better than Elko's suit.
