For anyone bitching about this series or saying it's bad for baseball - I've been staying with my granddad for a couple months now who is in increasingly poor health. Talking to him can be frustrating because he's always in a shitty mood and bitching about the same shit over and over again. Obviously it isn't all his fault but it's still an ass-whipping at times.
The World Series being on and being between two familiar teams - to him at least - is an easy conversation piece and gives him a nice distraction. He's at most "himself" these days when telling stories - his long-term memory is still very sharp for his age - it's just the day-to-day and short-term stuff where he's really slipping.
I don't have a strong pull for either of these teams and don't hate that they're in the WS. I know a lot of people do - but I think it's important to remember that stuff like this means a lot to a whole lot of people in this country.
Not preaching or anything - I'm plenty cynical and jaded at times - just wanted to share a little anecdote of a way in which this is a fairly big deal for baseball and to a lesser extent America. I mean it's fucking LA vs. New York and the flagship team of both. No matter what sport that doesn't happen often.
