  1. Was personally painful for me as I had hosted some friends with my wife with dinner made and everything thinking we could have a fun time chatting and somewhat paying attention to a game in hand for the good guys and watching some of the others for upsets. Instead ended up being me in shock/not in a good mood to shoot the shit with people that couldn’t care less about the result of the Texas game. To this day I still don’t understand how Shaka failed here but was successful at VCU and now Marquette. It just doesn’t make me super confident that any new hire will really excel here. Beard looked like he was gonna be that guy, but then stranglegate occurred.
  2. It would seem with Ole Miss not being strong on the offensive glass bodes well for us.
  3. Completely agree with points 1 and 2, but your take is also seeding doesn’t matter until it does. So seeding matters, just not as much as how well your team is playing down the stretch. Our identity is a collection of scorers who don’t really play cohesively well and has started to play good d, but can’t rebound. Will be very interesting to see how we finish. As JS alluded to, down the stretch schedule is much easier than first 4 games in conference, but we need to beat Vandy or Miss St away and upset one of Bama or UK and win the games we’re supposed to win to gain momentum heading into the SEC tournament. 2 wins in the SEC tournament with a strong finish in conference should put us in that 5-7 range with some confidence of being a second weekend team. Will we be better with Chendall Weaver back on the floor? We need the rebounding help and he’s a beast on that front and our best defender, but whose minutes will he take? Kent’s? Larry has been looking good lately as a distributor and on ball defender. I don’t think we sacrifice Pope’s minutes much either with his scoring potential. Excited to see if RT can earn his money and get the most out of our iso ball team. Kaluma, Pope, Mark, and Johnson are as good of a set of scorers as we’ve had since our elite 8 underachieving run in RT’s roster inheriting year, and all are experienced, Johnson excepted.
  4. Was talking about our loss to Ohio State. They also have a bad loss recently to Minnesota in conference. Texas’s bad losses are Ohio State (first game of the year) and UF blowout. UM similarly was blown out by Purdue. You state a great case as to why Michigan should be rated higher than us. My point was that if we don’t lose to Ohio State who has proven to be a very average team, we’re not that different in resume and the 7 seed difference is not deserved. The 2 away wins they have in conference for teams that aren’t shit are definitely something we’re lacking in at this point. No dispute there.
  5. Just took a look at Lunardi’s updated bracketology, and man I get it’s early but WTF. Updated as of this morning: Texas playing UCF in the play-in as a 12 to then play 5 seed Arizona. He’s got Michigan at a 5 seed, which to me Texas with one result flipped (Ohio State) has pretty much the same resume as Michigan. Bullshit. Lesson learned: don’t peep bracketology until 3rd week of Feb. Let’s take care of business boys. We pull off an upset tomorrow night and we’re looking at 3 straight wins against quad 1 ranked opponents, and 2 relatively easy games afterward that could put us at 6-4 in conference looking at not just making the tournament, but with a strong finish, 6 seed. Here’s hoping Kaluma’s knee better ASAP.
  6. I stand corrected. Thanks for bringing facts to the discussion. Was going off of eye test and clearly my eyes lied. Or I was just giving him too much credit for 2023.
  7. Copped a pair of his shoes. Looking forward to sporting them for the Nuggets tickets I have for second half of season: Lakers, Timberwolves and Spurs.
  8. You’re entitled to your opinion sir. It’s not even fair to say he’s only accurate in one-read throws. If you rewatch games sober you’ll see 3 go through progressions and make big plays on his 3rd read for first downs. It was obvious to me because most every QB since Colt has struggled here, and it’s like we’re projecting the sins of the past onto Quinn. Quinn struggled with moving around the pocket to extend plays, deep ball accuracy, and injuries. He was elite in short and intermediate, first game or two back from oblique forgiven. When Arch played, it was clear as day that he was much less than in the short game. That matters. Short game is low risk. You take shots to stretch the D and make big plays and free up the run game but the modern college football game is about the short and intermediate. Deep balls by definition are higher risk higher reward plays.
  9. Absolutely don't agree here. Countless times during games commentators mentioned that Quinn is leading receivers in stride in the short game that turn a 1 or 2 yard gain into a 6-8 yard gain.
  10. https://www.on3.com/college/ohio-state-buckeyes/news/carnell-tate-expected-to-remain-at-ohio-state-not-enter-transfer-portal-amid-tampering-allegations/ Wide receiver Carnell Tate is expected to return to Ohio State next season, per On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong. On Friday, Nakos reported that outside parties had tampered with Tate, who has not entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Tate was reportedly commanding offers of up to $1 million. With Ohio State’s players’ five-day window to enter the transfer portal set to expire on Saturday, the Buckeyes have been working overtime to return their top underclassmen for next season. Tate is one of those desirable talents. Tate finished this past season with 52 catches for 733 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The sophomore standout hauled in a season-high seven receptions for 87 yards in Ohio State’s 28-14 win over Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinals. While Carnell Tate was the third option this past season for the Buckeyes behind Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka, he is expected to be WR2 next season, assuming Smith returns to the Buckeyes for the 2025 campaign. It certainly seems Smith’s future with Ohio State is secured. Despite receiving offers from competing programs ranging from $4.5 to $5 million, Smith all but confirmed his return on X Friday. According to Nakos, Smith will earn at least $3 million next season from OSU. The two young wideouts won’t be the only ones receiving massive paydays this offseason. Nakos believes that Ohio State will be one of several select programs spending $27 to $30 million on its roster in 2025.
  11. Was the only Texas fan at my high school in the Austin area that was in the Simms camp. I just thought our potential as a team was higher with him at QB1. Then I went to the Colorado B12 Championship game with my dad and got to eat a heaping helping of crow back in the football locker room.
  12. Hearing Gerry talking about grundles, “grundle odor” and balls on my delayed stream of Coffee & Football this morning is something else. Gerry taking one for the team with the dick pills and taint deodorant commercials 😂
  13. I don’t know as if we’ve heard for sure we’re kicking the tires on Coogan. At this point I had chalked it up to us fans mostly thinking it a good idea and having some wishcasting going on. I just hope that if Flood decides we want him and he’s an upgrade that we’re able to get him.
  14. Then we wouldn’t be going after Coogan. Hopeful that Flood has enough datapoints on Hutson outside of his little bit of game action this year to feel confident either way.
  15. Presumably Coogan is a 1 and done with being a class of 2021. Having that seniority as a gap bridger to Cruz taking over sounds more attractive than Cole Hutson taking that on, but what do I know.
  16. Right, could be total bullshit. Why I posted it here because there are many in the know. Could just be agents doing agents things after he saw Smith’s huge payday.
  17. Hadn’t seen it mentioned here, but seeing articles that Oregon and Texas are both trying to shake Carnell Tate free.
  18. Amazing the debate ongoing here. Put me in the camp of being a fan of Ehlinger and what he did with what we had, but I don’t think we go 13-3 this year with Ehlinger at QB. I don’t think we’re in a position to allow Bam Ban Sam to do his thing for 1 yard against OSU. I feel we’re discounting Quinn’s accuracy and touch in the short and intermediate. While I’ve only been watching UT football since around 1995 at 9, Quinn’s touch on short and intermediate may be the best we’ve had in my watching lifetime. I don’t recall Colt’s ability to throw over defenders in that 8-20 yard range being as elite, but his accuracy was the best I’ve seen in short and intermediate at the end of his career. I will say knowing that I’ll get shit for this, with Colt I felt he missed more downfield throws than I remember any other QB, in that he didn’t try and opted for the short pass. Countless upon countless times we could have attacked downfield in a 1-1 with the WR with a step or two and we opted for the more sure thing. It worked for him, but I remember as a college kid wondering why he didn't take more shots. After watching his NFL career, it became more clear, but we don’t give Colt the same kind of shit we do Quinn for lack of execution deep because Colt was otherwise great, a gamer, didn’t have the incompletions to show for failed downfield attempts and we won a lot.
  19. And this does align with Jeremiah Smith’s announcement of a new NIL partnership leading up to the NC.
  20. One more portal entry coming today on C&F
  21. Haha. Dude there’s a big difference in having 200K cash on top of the benefits of being a college athlete vs not having 200K. Sure there was Bosworth and countless others of the past, but cash is a requirement for having a “good” drug habit, you know.
  22. While I’d like to think that he’s keeping it between the guardrails with just weed, I just can’t see weed being the instigator of late night ridiculous tweets and posts. True that it affects everyone differently, but in my 20 years of experience between myself or friends that partake, have never seen that kind of behavior being caused by some ganja. Bet the mortgage on some kind of stimulant likely with alcohol.
