Trivial Things That Make You Surly
I've always wanted to see that. For some reason - I think it reflects the city - BOS has the worst travelers (the incident I referenced was to BOS). And nowhere else do so many group 5-8 people stand and block 20 minutes before the gate opens. F/As do not have to do much ... I wish they would do a better job policing that crap. I'm sure I've been That Guy on occasion but man there are a bunch of idiots on planes.

Trivial Things That Make You Surly
drives me nuts. i realize two syllables are so damn hard, but nothing wrong with "request." every meeting at my old shop was "do you have any asks?" I always wanted to say, "yes. grammar lessons for the group please."

I agree with both of you. I hate the pricks that throw two bags up, but if I'm just carrying the laptop bag, and I'm in for the bad movie, I'll throw it up - still only taking up one spot. This time of year, the jackets are the worst. Last flight some jackass put is coat up there ... my roller went on top of it.

I had a similar experience. While it did not make as much sense to me given how I was taught, i trusted the teacher when she explained that it helped kids more easily understand the foundation.

Dallas officer kills man after mistaking apartment for her own, police say
"Bunny did not reveal the name of the company because she is in the process of appealing the blacklisting of her credentials, she said. ABC News could not independently confirm her claims that she was fired, or, if so, why."

Old Yearbook Scandals
Free advice ... quit worrying about strawmen and just read the thread. A poster made the following comment: "If he was a Republican, the coordinated GOP attack to defend Northam would be fully operational right now." The King example disproves that. The intent was to to further engage the Whataboutism other than to show the shallowness of a simpleton, emotional response.

Old Yearbook Scandals
You're moving the goalposts. The comment was a simpleton Whataboutism, which was easily refuted by a current example.

Like it did for Steve King? I get today's environment encourages reflexive, emotional "whataboutism," but I mean at least try to have a modicum of intellectual honesty.

I tend to agree with you, but many have effectively weaponized racism. No one is going to put down the Race Cards when they continue to be so powerful. This is made worse by the fact that weaponized racism was a key part of this idiot's campaign. The only thing saving him from a national lynch mob is his party affiliation.

Seriously. That stuck with me from the podcast, and it still creeps me out.

LOL. How many people fret about the look of their ATM card? Somehow this guy was able to get thousands of people to sign up for "Magnisis" based on a cool, metal ATM card ... Freaking Millennials. Having just finished "Bad Blood," I too continue to be amazed at how unsophisticated many of these VCs tend to be. I guess they're so busy with so much cash they just do not have time to really vet investments. It is all about selling. They bought this doofus just like they bought Holmes.

They Shall Not Grow Old - peter jackson documentary about the great war
I have listened to episodes of The History of the Great War and The Great War Podcast. Personally, I think Carlin my execute a podcast better than anyone I have heard, so neither are on his level in terms of insight, presentation, production, etc. However, as you noted both go into more detail and cover more aspects (sounds weird given Carlin did what, 15-20 hours on it)! I like "History" a little better, but both are good. I have enjoyed a lot of the "History" episodes post-Armistice that go into the players, dynamics, and impact of Versailles. IIRC, "History" focuses more on the long-term impact of the War, which I enjoy. The dynamics between Wilson, Clemenceau, and Lloyd George at Versailles is interesting ... I loved the Lloyd George bon mat that he was sitting between "Jesus Christ and Napoleon." Clemenceau on Wilson: "Fourteen Points? The Good Lord had only ten." ... or some such as I probably mangled them from memory.

Really simple answer, but the Prussians largely unified Germany into the modern state from the vestiges of the Holy Roman Empire. Most - if not all - of the militarism of early-20th Century Germany was rooted in Prussia, and they were largely the aristocracy of Germany (the Junkers). I think the point was the Prussians pulled the rest of Germany into a stupid conflict that the Bavarians, etc., could care less about ... and at the time Germany had only been a country for < 50 years.

He seemed like the only genuine, likable player. This episode really just reflects the current post-modernity view of “your truth.” It was not really a fraud, the festival was just Billy and Jeff’s “truth.” If they said it was a luxury festival who are we to judge and to disagree?

Last Jedi Was So Bad I Only Saw It Twice
I think at the core, Disney is too focused on making a community college catalog instead entertaining movies. No amount of mental gymnastics can get past: - Rey: all of a sudden the this ancient Force / Jedi religion manifests itself in this girl with no knowledge or training, she just suddenly is the most powerful Jedi in the universe? - Kylo Ren: he's so powerful that it scares Luke to the point of killing his own nephew, but the guy cannot beat a Stormjanitors, Rey, or a couple of Imperial Guards? The original trilogy worked because 1) Vadar was a baddass villain and 2) we were brought along Luke's journey from bratty farm kid to Jedi. There was some connection teased and we saw it unfold onscreen with the real tension inside each, struggling between who they are emotionally and who they are intellectually. In the new movies, the end is already decided - Ren is not a villain anyone is afraid of, and Rey apparently already is Yoda, so there is no investment in either. The only remotely interesting characters are Poe and BB-8. Don't get me started on the biggest abortion of all ... Captain Phasma ... I want to say, "we get it Disney, girls can be Storm Troopers too." What a freaking waste of space ... My only question is does she use a silver tampon?

Realize I'm late to the party but finally saw this abortion. The only thing good is that even in Star Wars stupid women don't understand the fuel light.

It sounded like the Netflix one was funded (partly) by the social media promotion company, which is likely why it goes so hard into him to deflect blame from anyone else involved. The Hulu one features the promotion leader from that company, apparently they have parted ways, which would explain why it puts more blame on others. Interesting question is how much culpability financiers, promotion partners, advertisers, etc., should face in these situations? Where is the line? Feels like those guys should have been pretty clear it was not going to work, which seems like a ethical point at which to say "we're out."
