  1. I may not have done a good job explaining my POV, but I do not think we disagree on the substance just maybe the nuance. I think where we disagree is that IMHO in most cases a citizen cannot definitively know whether her rights were violated during the actual course of the interaction with a cop. Absolutely she may feel that way, but without cross-examining the cop, there is really no definitive way to adjudicate whether one's rights were violated. I do not believe a citizen is equipped to do so in that moment, which is why I do not really think being a jackass makes much sense. Of course, I really try not be to a jackass all the time, but I realize many disagree. I think there are other ways post-interaction to adjudicate the violations of one's rights. But hey, if you disagree, no skin off my back -> go be a dick to cops and see how that works out for you. I just would always counsel my children to be polite and respectful and deal with it in the right time and place.
  2. I'm far from an expert. I generally have a couple of assumptions that have served me well: - Regardless of how they act, children want to be told what to do and controlled -> it makes them subconsciously feel safe and secure that the parent is taking care of them and protecting them - You need to lay the foundation early of who is the leader / boss / whatever you want to call it -> they need to learn very early who is in charge and that subconsciously will resonate with them when they are older
  3. Yes! Women > 40 that still have it. Voting solely on hotness is equally substantive intellectually as any post in this thread.
  4. Send them back to SAN! Keep the Raiders out of LAS.

Aren't the Cowboys also the only team (NFL or NCAA) who have two different shades of its color, home and away?
  6. Just do me a favor ... remember I made you laugh, so please don't spit in my coffee or sneeze on my doughnut. Thanks in advance. Have a great weekend. I hope you don't have to open in the morning.
  7. Horrible way to die - beaten to death, hung on for a few months: Newsweek: Jerry Wolkowitz, the son of Holocaust survivors who was the victim of an alleged racially charged attack, has died after five months on life support On Thursday, the Asbury Park Press reported that Wolkowitz, who did freelance photography for the newspaper for years, passed away at the age of 56 after spending months in a vegetative state. In the weeks leading up to his death, his friends and family took turns visiting him. https://www.newsweek.com/son-holocaust-survivors-dies-months-after-alleged-racially-charged-assault-1177159
  8. Yes, and it is horrible. That cop should be in jail.
  9. Yes because: 1. The person being accosted has no definitive way to accurately ascertain whether her rights were violated (maybe you have a magic way to judge another person's heart or intent -> if so, share as that sounds awesome) 2. Even if one could fiat #1 above, not the time or place to engage (being disrespectful or rude to a cop or anyone because your judging her or making assumptions is usually not helpful in any relationship) (FWIW - I don't hate your or anyone but ousux; I do love the irony you bring to your comments)
  10. Or maybe when dealing with the police I'm not aggressive or an asshole? My wife and her family are dark skinned. None of them ever has had a problem. (absolutes are the hobgoblin of a lazy mind) I don't deny many are pulled over for "driving while black," but much of what happens after that largely is driven by how one interacts with police. (this is true in virtually all relationships) No cloak room, but sometimes nuance is required. (don't be tempted to jump to the "you love cops, hate all non-whites" straw man, which of course is not what I'm implying) Everyone faces injustice, and it is how one responds to that injustice that often determines the ultimate outcome. (no, responding politely does not excuse or promote said injustice) Demanding cops treat citizens with respect and coaching citizens to respect cops are not mutually exclusive. (they're not, now matter what twitter says)
  11. It's weird to me this needs to be taught. My parents reared me always to be polite. I'm not particular cop fan, but regardless I "yes sir / no sir" when pulled over vs. being a jackass. I guess my parents taught me to be polite to everyone, and clearly that's a minority POV these days.
  12. It's odd the relative focus on being Texas vs. maximizing what makes aggy aggy. Marketing 101: better to be a great "you" than a poor "them." On one of those aggy or secsecsec boards, that super-crazy-delusional guy was talking about how it should take "A&M" out of its name since it is the state's flagship university. I still don't think that guy is real.
  13. Concur. Outside of Thanksgiving, aggy was always an afterthought after ousux and pig back in the day. Conversely, aggy's entire culture is built around Texas.
