  1. I went to a DoD high school that was really mixed, so the segregation of all social life at SWT (including frats) was kind of a shock in the late 80s early 90s. And I say segregation on purpose, because I think very few of the dudes in my frat were racist. (They were equal opportunity assholes; kind of like Surly). But there seemed to be an instilled culture of segregation. I asked an older bro what was the deal, and he said something to the effect of they have their frats we have ours, and kind of shrugged. I brought a black buddy of mine to a party and he hauled ass after 10 minutes. No one said or did anything, he just wasn't comfortable, peace out. I was like WTF? In retrospect I was just naive, but it was pretty foreign to me, the whole segregated social thing. And disappointing.
  2. When KD hit the shot from 5 feet beyond the arc with time running out I reflexively yelled HOLY SHIT. My kids came down, "what happened, are you ok?" My son asked if I was a Brooklyn fan. I said no, I'm a Kevin Durant fan.
  3. I thought it was really good. Are we to assume from the ending there's going to be a part 3? I didn't really think about this until after I left the theater, but
  4. The episodes for this show are way too short. I find myself getting a little pissed because I like it so much. I'd be fine with short episodes as long as there were twice as many.
  5. I think it really ties the room together.
  6. I'm mildly concerned about my boy Danny Ric. I'm hoping he just needs time to adjust to his new car. He had this to say post Q: “It’s more confusing than frustrating at the moment, that’s the emotion I'm feeling. There were some laps that, for sure, were a bit messy which explained maybe a couple of tenths. Since Thursday we’ve made some progress and this was continuing throughout qualifying with each run. I had to stop at the scales towards the end of Q2, so we didn’t have the tyres as we wanted which put us on the back foot a little bit for the final run. “Usually, you can feel when you’re a bit off the pace, but I haven’t had that, and I don’t feel like I've forgotten how to drive this track. I’m still getting up to speed with the driving style needed to get the maximum out of this car, and maybe that’s amplified here in Monaco. But, we know what we need to work on and we’ll keep pushing for the race tomorrow.” I don't recall anything said about this scales issue on the coverage, so I did some googling and came across Vettel's hissy fit in Brazil. You F1 vets know all this shit, but the weighbridge was a new thing for me.
  7. Forgot to circle back on this- Mullet, I've seen this kind of post before and my thought is always: that same thing could be said about a majority of posts on this thread and others on this site. But I look at it as doing my share to add some entertaining content, as others do on a daily basis. It's the only reason I come back (to read interesting and entertaining content).
  8. This is the first season I've added the practice runs to my watch list. Those are much more informative and interesting than expected. The announcers go into a lot of detailed background on the teams and drivers, talk rumors and strategy etc. I assume they just don't have time to get into that stuff during qualifying and race day. Anyway you Netflix newbies (like me) ought to check them out, helps flesh out everything going on behind the scenes.
  9. (raises hand) That is correct, a prototype was indeed made and a silly brand name given. However it was so improbable to actually function as intended (it actually had moving parts) it was quietly buried in our Closet of Once Great Ideas, alongside the oven mit coated with hand lotion and the Eskimo diamond mine adventure. (I'm happy to report she pivoted to a good, successful venture, but that isn't funny and doesn't fit this thread, so forget it.)
  10. Same here. Mine stopped when it was 17-14 and I thought, that's probably how it ended, SH won't let them score again. Nope. Just fucking missed the best part of the game.
  11. Sounds like you know what you want, have a plan and access to a family shop - most of your question marks are already checked off. Biggest expense will be body work/paint, so look for the most rust free EC you can find. Check for accident damage (As ROFL noted, frame). Second biggest expense is engine rebuild, if needed. I'd have a pro shop make recommendations and do the work. Everything after that is relatively straightforward/bolt on stuff that you can replace/install yourself if you like, or outsource. All that "other stuff" adds up quickly in $, even if you do it yourself. Here's how my numbers played out: Purchase - $11k Body/Paint - $12k (that's after I welded in the new floorpans) Engine rebuild - $5k Everything else - $12k (parts/materials, I did all the installation.)

    Whatcha reading?

Starts slow with backgrounds of all the players, but when things get hairy it takes off. I found out about it after seeing an interview with a USAF pilot who recalled getting a frantic signal from ground soldiers needing air cover during the Iraq invasion. He couldn't see shit because of dust but eventually was able to drop enough firepower in the rough vicinity to help these dudes escape. Pretty wild story.
  13. I'm developing a MF townhouse project in Phoenix and we just threw in the towel on lumber - just too volatile. Wood framing is now light gauge steel, exterior plywood now cement board, roofin/decks now Densdeck. We'll still have some wood, like shear panels, interior stairs, etc, but looks like we've cut about 90% of the wood. Our GC noted steel framers are little slow right now due to the pull back in office and retail construction, so off we go, hoping we can get within pissing distance of our original budget.
  14. Welp, this shitty news has at least has given me the impetus to have a sit down with my 15 year old. Need to make sure he and his friends stay the fuck away from any street pills. I was talking to my wife and I'm like, do we tell him to come to us if he wants to try Xanax? I mean, shit, I don't know, that seems strange, but maybe it will keep him alive.
  15. Rhein Main/Frankfurt HS representing. Tried to give blood last year and got the boot for Mad Cow exposure in the 80s. So odd.
  16. Like Gabriel I added a push fan on the front of the radiator. That combined with the pull of the mechanical fan really helps. Also the shroud. Take some measurements and see how much clearance you have. I didn't have much so I went with an ultra thin (1.75 inches) compared to the normal 3 inch wide ones. I think all of them require you to buy a thermostat/power connection. I found the thermostats to be completely unreliable or a PIA to install, so I ditched it and hooked the fan up directly to the ignition terminal on my starter solenoid. So when the car is on the fan is on all the time. I hear the downside to this is it wears the fan out prematurely, but I don't give a shit, I'll just replace it. "I" terminal is in the middle on right side (red wire with gray tape).
  17. Watched Looper recently for the first time. Thought it was pretty damn good. Not sure why I missed it when it was in the theaters.
  18. My engine's been really sluggish lately, hesitating/stumbling in first gear. Research says it's fuel intake, air intake, or a combination of both. I was going to just turn in the carb to my guy but decided to take a shot at adjusting the carb myself. First tweak was the accelator pump. Two positions available, so I moved it over to the more aggressive one. Next was throttle position. My carb has four positions top to bottom, again moved it to most aggressive position (all the way up). A buddy suggested I check the float - sometimes they sit too low in the bowl and slow fuel from getting to the jets. Sure enough it was, so I bent it up so the float is parallel with the top lip of the carb, reportedly the correct position. That took care of fuel intake, so now to air. Nothing blocking anything inside, all clean. Let's check the air filter, shall we? For fuck's sake, after a 2 year restoration, loads done to the car, I never changed the 20 plus year old air filter. Well, now I have. And voila, all engine hesitation gone. I'm going to break it in a little more then try to lay some rubber.
  19. Thanks to whomever recommended Endeavor up thread. Great show. The actor playing Morse is outstanding. I like how his character doesn't take any shit from anyone professionally, but seems pretty vulnerable in his private life. Character has a lot of layers I wasn't expecting. Example end of Season 4 Starting off I expected him to be some whiz bang super sleuth that figures out complex cases that no one else can touch. But that's not really so; he eventually puts the puzzle together but it's with help from others in the department. Every episode is creatively different but does follow the same formula, so it's not a binge show, but one you watch once/twice a week. Highly recommend, along with Line of Duty above.
  20. I enjoyed it. The Spanish Civil War stuff was interesting, didn't know most of that stuff. Gotta admit, cruising around the Keys all day with a boat filled with buddies and booze, fishing and searching for Nahzi U Boats, looked pretty appealing.
  21. Same. Everything came back with an impeccable paint job, looked brand new.
